What do you think?

I have put together a map that includes Ocarina of Time, Twilight princess, Skyward Sword, the oracle games, Majora's Mask and Zelda 1 and 2.

This one highlights the political boundaries:

A few notes:
> I separated the land that the Gerudos claim, and the Hyrule from the original two games in to there own provinces. (or country?)
> I included the land of Termina. The story may have taken place in a different realm, like how A Link to the Past had a shadow realm. I believe the land to be present ether way.

Any thoughts, issues, or additions that I should think of?

Here is an updated map:

I eliminated the ruins of time because it sits so close to the sealed grounds. This reduces how many Master Sward locations there are, but there are still two. I also through the Four Sward Sanctuary between Lake Floria and Ordon Ranch.

Here you can see that I added in many other locations from Minish Cap. I had to stretch and twist the right side of the map to make the ranch and lake fit.

Re: What do you think?

Does LoZ take place in Holodrum then?

I seriously doubt Termina can be located on any map of Hyrule as depicted above.

That looks like it took a lot of work, and I know I have never taken that much effort into any post or thread, so worry about I say too much.

Please explain this a little. I assume LoZ is Legend of Zelda, which is in-turn the whole franchise.

In my experience with Zelda mechanics, alternate realms seem to mirror the initial realm. Which would mean that while Link slipped in to a shadow realm for most the game, the land mass and structures would still exist in the original realm.

LoZ is shorthand for The Legend of Zelda--the first game in the series.

Nice map too by the way. I have always found maps that include Termina to be interesting since I personally believe that Termina is another dimension altogether...or even an imaginary place.

Re: What do you think?

Termina was an alternate universe. Also, Holodrum and Labrynia were far away lands. I actually think they are on other continents because in Link's Awakening Link gets shipwrecked while at sea.

In any event, where did you place the Master Sword? That is an important aspect to making a map since its the same spot throughout the series.

Instead of LoZ I could have said THF, or The Hyrule Fantasy, which is the Famicom name for the initial LoZ game release. Or Zelda 1. Which, when it came out, and when I first played it, it was not Zelda 1, it was just Zelda. And it still rocks.

Anyway, I don't see the original Death Mountain Area (LoZ overworld) depicted in your map, and instead I see Holodrum appearing where Zelda 1's map should be. But I could be misinterpreting your map.

I understand why you put 'Termina' on your map, I was just doubting that the corresponding geography would be that close to mainland Hyrule. If that were the case, then why bother with an alternate reality. Or magic warps. (yes, TWotOK seems to be an alternate flooded version of AoL's map, and the light and dark worlds from ALttP and FSA mirror each other, but there's also theTR and Koholint, which appearantly do not mirror any specific lands). A unified Hyrule map is complicated enough without adding strange things like a pseudo Termina into the mix.

As someone else posted, Holodrum and Labrynna are supposedly far away, and Link is seen using a boat to leave at the end of OoX, but I still say that OoX doesn't actually count as the journey of enlightenment that Link was returning from in LA. I would say the journey starts after OoX and continues in some other far off land, and then we see him returning from THAT land in LA. Thus OoX could take place in somewhat nearby foreign kingdoms so Zelda and Impa can use no magical means to visit them.

Edit: oh, I see where LoZ takes place, the area near the green stuff east of Eldin with the eyeglass lake. Perhaps if you had called this area the 'Little Kingdom' I would have picked up on it. But then we might have the debate whether LoZ depicts the little kingdom within the land of Hyrule, or if the kingdom was elsewhere, and Zelda just happened to hide the ToW in some dungeons outside of the kingdom. Either way it's unclear what constitutes the actual extant kingdom in LoZ/AoL. Obviously the kingdom at the time of the Great TF using King covered a vast area and may have included everything on this map,and more.

Another edit: some folks put Holodrum and Labrynna as subsets of the AoL map, meaning they were conquered in the great king's time following ALttP/OoX/LA.

ToT ruins from TP and Sealed Temple are separate but in the same area according to the map. That runs counter to the assertion from HH that states the MS always returns to the same pedestal throughout history.

That reminds me, where do those scabbards come from each time Link pulls the MS? Any old scabbard just won't do, especially one that is designed to carry a lesser sword than the Sword of Evil's Bane. Of course most games just seem to magically provide Link with the necessary scabbard, yet require Link to gain or upgrade every other piece of equipment or bag/bottle/container.

^ I always figured he got it from somewhere else either before or after obtaining the sword. That's the most realistic way to put it, because that kind of thing happens in video games where things appear that are in association with whatever you just obtained. Its a game thing.

I guess it would be too inconvenient for Link to not be able to switch to another item because he had nowhere to put away his newly obtained sword until he finds a suitable scabbard. But them it's not inconvenient to use bomb flowers before having a bomb bag to out them in?

It just seems the game designers cheated us out of another fetch quest!

Probably a stupid question, but how do you get to termina from the lost woods if they're on the other side of the map.

Officially, he is just in some forest. Logically he would be in the Lost Woods or some other part of the forbidden forest that the Kokiri frequent. Until we have confirmation, it is merely speculation that he as indeed in the LW.

Re: What do you think?

No. He was in a forest:

Quote:
Hyrule Historia: Page 110:

______________
マジョラの仮面
The Mask of Majora (Majora's Mask)

リンクの出発
Link's Departure

リンクはロンロン牧場からエポナを借り受ける。
Link borrowed Epona from Lon Lon Ranch.

そして、数か月後のこと、かつての相棒ナビィを探しながらさまよううちに、不思議な森へと迷い こんだ。
And--several months later--while he wandered searching for his old friend, Navi, he got lost in a mysterious forest.

そこは、タルミナと呼ばれる異世界へと通じていたのである。
There, he reached another world called Termina.
I also explain that here.

Quote:
And yes, this does mean that he was not in the Lost Woods when he found his way to Termina.

In Japanese, the word for "Lost Woods" is [ 迷いの森 ], a literal translation of which is "Lost Forest." The word used to describe the forest into which Link strays off is [ 不思議な森 ], or "mysterious forest."

Hence, its translation to "he got lost in a mysterious forest."
"Mysterious" itself says that the forest is unknown to Link, and possibly to the inhabitants of Hyrule.

Re: What do you think?

I was talking to that NotAllThatEvil person. - Because there's nothing logical about him being in the Lost Woods at that time.

But yeah, it was likely outside of Hyrule's borders.

Maybe the magic of the Master Sword transforms his regular scabbard into the really fancy looking ones.

As I recently did a similiar map ordering too, I must disagrre with this. all non-Hyrule lands are definetly seperate.

Most of your locations likely would also not exist at the same time; The Legen of Zelda series occurs over many millenia, and terrain changes greatly. The map itself also includes many inconsistencies with several individual games' mapping, and the quantity of it is too great to list.

Re: What do you think?

Seeing as how some maps had to be realigned, I don't think Hylian cartography, or knowledge of the sea for that matter are very reliable at times. In this map Link would have been sailing within sight of land, fallowing the shoreline to get to Labrynna and Holodrum.

I found that the original Zelda map fits quite well within the map of the second game. If I were to labile the region as anything, it would relate to the Gorons. (It may have caused more confusion.)

As for the location of the master sword. Religious relics are always moved around. So after Skyward Sword some time it would have made it's way to the temple in Castle town, moving the entire pedestal if necessary.

Re: What do you think?

[SPOILER]
Actually, the sword never moved between SS and OoT. It was stated in Hyrule Historica that the Sealed Temple in SS becomes the Temple of Time in OoT, and the Master Sword stays in the Temple for both. Relative positions of landmarks in ALttP and TP would also keep the Master Sword in relatively the same spot, even though the Temple of Time was abandoned, crumbled and overgrown.
