So in order of events, the people find out that Ganondorf committed crimes, so imprisonment and possibly execution become options, and then Link and Zelda talk to each other and decide that an execution would be best in case he were to break out of prison and take over Hyrule.

That's how I see it anyway.
That seems kind of nearing fanfiction territory, but I think it works just fine with the sages catching Ganondorf before he inacts his plan. You have to remember that without the Triforce of Power, the sage's powers are probably considerably more powerful than his own which is just an assortment of Gerudo magic. It wasn't really till he got the Triforce of Power when he was able to rebel against the sages.

But why do the Sages need to catch Ganondorf? "They think he'll do something" is a stupid reason. What I'm saying is that "they think he'll do something based on what he's already done" is a better reason because he already committed a crime anyway.

They don't just think he'll do something; they know he'll do something.

You're thinking in real world terms where there's no reliable way of seeing the future, when foreknowledge is actually possible in the Zelda universe thanks to the magic of time travel.

Re: The time Link got sent back to (OoT/TP contradiction)

But how can Link prove he time-travelled at all? It makes much more sense for the foreknowledge to be the result of Link's story combined with the facts of what Ganondorf already did. Without Ganondorf having done anything, what reason would anyone have to believe Link's story of how Ganondorf is evil?

Zelda probably recognized Link from her dream like she did originally.

He has the Triforce of Courage -> Only way to get the Triforce is through the Sacred Realm -> The Sacred Realm is guarded by the Master Sword -> Master Sword can only be pulled by the Hero of Time -> Link must be The Hero of Time

I'd assume intimate knowledge of what's inside the core of the Temple of Time would make his story pretty believable.

I'm still not seeing what's wrong with what I'm saying since Ganondorf had already committed crimes by that point in time no matter how you look at it.

evil people can't even touch the Master Sword. Theory disproven.

So I think the theory is that young Link warns Zelda and the king about Ganondorf's betrayal, so the king orders the six sages to execute him, which is the execution scene in TP.
The sages from the adult side does not become the sages on the child side because no evil rose to power and according to the sheikah legend the sages were destined to seal evil away into the evil realm. So Darunia, Saria, Impa, Ruto, Nabooru, does not become the sages rather they are replaced by the TP sages

During that time period Link could have likely still been in Termina so he couldn't have summoned them and like I stated before the destined tribal sages couldn't have become the sages in the CT because no evil rose to power.

I was always under the impression at the end scene in OoT he was sent back to the very moment he first met zelda. but the change is that they all forgot who ganondorf was. I thought Ganondorf never made it to the castle that day as the result of being sealed away. i cant explain TP and why ganondorf had the ToP. what a scalp scratcher man. unless TP is more than 100 yrs. in the future and it's a new king of theives but that still can't explain the ToP. except the soul sharing idea and the manifestation of the ToP. thats was a good suggestion IMO. Wouldn't someone have to touch the triforce with an unpure heart to split it for link to even have the ToC?

Re: The time Link got sent back to (OoT/TP contradiction)

Link could prove he traveled through time by describing things he wouldn't otherwise know. The identity of all the sages for starters. He could play the song of time, give a description of the Temple of Time. He could play the six songs of teleportation (assuming Zelda or at least someone in the castle recognizes them in that time period). He knows Zelda's Lullaby. He could have told Zelda about her dream before she could tell him.

Re: The time Link got sent back to (OoT/TP contradiction)

Heres a thought, sometime after Ganondorf was captured, either Link or Zelda decide to go get the triforce for some reason, resulting in a split and the triforce pieces going to their respective owners from OoT. Ganondorf carries it Until the end of TP, while Link and Zelda have it in their bloodlines, which is why Link has it at the very start of TP.

Re: The time Link got sent back to (OoT/TP contradiction)

I think that there definitely could be a mistake. Or Nintendo hasn't really explained the full situation.
According to OoT, if the one who claims the Triforce is pure and balanced, then he will be able to use the Triforce to usher in an era of prosperity for Hyrule and the Sacred Realm. If the one who claims it is not pure and not balanced (i.e., Ganondorf), then the Triforce will split into three pieces, whereupon the "splitter" takes one piece that most exemplifies his personality, and the other two do the same with another two people (Link and Zelda).
In the Child Timeline ending of OoT, Link is able to have Ganondorf arrested and "executed" before the Sacred Realm can be opened by him [Link]. Thus, the Triforce shouldn't have split at that point!

Supposedly, when Ganondorf is to be executed in the Child Timeline of TP, the Triforce of Power saves him. But we already concluded that the Triforce has not been split! It would be impossible for him to split it, as he has not been to the Sacred Realm.

Thus, there are only two explanations:
1) The information given by Sheik in OoT is false and the Triforce constantly exists in a split state, with each Triforce destined for different people
2) Ganondorf was lying when he said that he needed Link to open the Sacred Realm as he had already obtained the means to opening it
3) The Triforce was already split by another unpure person/force.
Of course, all three of these have problems, but they are, as of now, the only real options.

EDIT:
Dark Beast Majora has an interesting point. Just saying.
Also, see this

Some people think Link may have touched the triforce somehow on his way back through time at the end of OoT. Maybe Zelda sent him back to the moment he pulled the sword in the sacred realm and Link was able to get to the triforce, before Ganon could (which was Zelda's original plan wasn't it?), which caused it to split. Since Link didn't know he carried Courage throughout the entire game, maybe Ganon didn't know he carried power until the TP scene, when he most of all desired power and revenge.

If this is the case, then Nintendo failed by not even mentioning an incredibly important detail in the story... I wonder if they'll alter some text in the final scenes of OoT 3DS, letting us know what did happen. They HAVE to know the current ending is extremely confusing...
