Is the Twilight Realm the Sacred Realm?

As I understand it, the Dark World in aLttP is the Sacred Realm after it has been infiltrated by Ganon.

I haven't played Twilight Princess, but it would make sense if the Twilight Realm were the intermediate stage between the Sacred Realm and the Dark World.

Is there anything in TP that contradicts this?

Some more evidence in favour of my theory:

In aLttP, if you enter the Dark World you turn into an animal or something strange, that is if you don't carry the Moon Pearl. In TP, Link turns into a wolf whenever he enters the Twilight Realm, whereas in aLttP his descendent turns into a rabbit. Perhaps the reason Ganondorf first became a giant pig man was that he crossed the border between the Light World and the Sacred Realm.

I used to have this same idea, but people have pointed out a few problems with this.

The biggest contradiction is that the interlopers were sealed in the Twilight realm way before OoT, and in OoT, the sacred realm is not dark and still contains the triforce. It wouldn't make sense for the interlopers to be banished to where they were trying to get to.

Just to elaborate on Baconsock it is explained in TP that there was a war waged in Hyrule over the Triforce which was ended when the Light Spirits, who were sent by the Goddesses, sealed the Dark Interlopers (people trying to steal the Triforce with magic) in the Twilight Realm, which has only one connection back to Hyrule/the light world; the Mirror of Twilight which is a giant circular mirror that is kept on top of a fortress in the Gerudo Desert.

If the Twilight Realm were the Sacred Realm then the Twili (decendants of the Dark Interlopers who were sealed in the Twilight Realm) would have gotten the Triforce a long time before OoT or TP happened.

Also, the only way back and forth between the Twilight Realm and the light world is the Mirror of Twilight while the way into the Sacred Realm is the Temple of Time (and you actually possibly visit the Sacred Realm during Twilight Princess, it's not very clear).

Yeah, but if ALLTP is on the CT, the Mirror of Twilght could become the Magic Mirror... WAIT! In OOT you go to the Sacred Realm only via the Temple of Time. If the Dark World was the Sacred Realm, how come in ALTTP you could travel to the Sacred Realm (Dark World) via the Magic Mirror? Does that mean there is another way to the Sacred Realm other than the ToT?

You don't travel to the Dark World with the Magic Mirror in ALttP. There are portals all over Hyrule that you use to get there, and you just use the mirror to escape back to Hyrule. And in OoT, all the temples seem to be connected to the Sacred Realm somehow. The Twilit mirror was shattered beyond repair at the end of TP, so it can't become the Magic Mirror.

Dark World:
While Ganon was trapped in the Sacred Realm during the Imprisoning War, he still wanted to take over Hyrule. Instead, he had to settle for the Sacred Realm. The Sacred Realm is, in fact, a mirror-world of Hyrule. It was here that Ganon made plans of taking over Hyrule with his great army of monsters, but was foiled by Link when he entered the Dark World and ruined all of Ganon's plans and once again saved Hyrule. When a normal person from Hyrule enters the Sacred Realm, he changes into a monster if his thoughts are greedy or impure. Link, however, turned into a pink bunny.

The Twilight Realm is a location from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The Twilight Realm is another dimension. The Realm is home to the Twili race and is ruled by a king or queen. The Realm is lighted and protected by the sacred Sols, orbs containing the power of Light. Apparently, it has gods of its own. When the light of the Sols enters the Master Sword, Midna says it is because the gods of the realm have blessed it.

Looks like it has some connection with the Dark World somehow.
My ladiesbrain says: sacred realm = light. Dark World = sacred realm in darkness. Twilight Realm: dimension with banned people, doomed now to live between light and darkness.

No, they're not the same. You don't banish people to somewhere they're trying to get to. The Twilight Realm was a punishment, the Sacred Realm is supposed to be somewhat of a paradise.

If you haven't played TP, aren't you spoiling a lot of the plot for yourself here? And even if you don't care about spoilers, I'd recommend playing the game before theorizing on it.

When entering the Stained Glass window within the Temple of Time, leading towards the dungeon of the same name. It probably is merely an extension of the temple however, rather than a location within the Sacred Realm. The Temple of Light was within the Sacred Realm, but was merely a small part of it. Additionally, considering the Temple of Time dungeon contained a practical artifact used to contact another race (Dominion Rod), I highly doubt that the Temple of Time dungeon was within the Sacred Realm, an area that was actively concealed from virtually all.

In other words, it makes little sense to conceal the Dominion Rod within the Sacred Realm.

^You would also need to explain how all those monsters, along with armagohma, got into the sacred realm. As well has Zant with the mirror shard.

I think the big thing about the Twilight Realm being the Sacred Realm is pretty much killed with Midna destroying the Mirror of Twilight at the end of the game.

Again, I think the history of the Twili was just another backstory to the war over the triforce left out in any previous game.

Although, I think some games do hint on Ganondorf being trapped in the Twilight Realm with the biggest clue being Aghanim.

The Twilight realm is where the twili people are and the light realm is where normal people are.

Yes, but Agahnim wasn't actually a real person. He was merely a projection of Ganon into the Light World.

Good point. You've motivated me to do a bit of research. As it turns out, there seem to be two schools of though regarding Agahnim and no official explanation.

The first theory is that Agahnim is Ganon's alter ego, as in costume or shape change disguise. This is how I've always interpreted what happened.

Another theory I've seen is that Agahnim -was- an actual person, but was possessed by Ganon, which would lend more credence to what DestroyMan was saying. Personally though, I don't think Agahnim was intended to be a being of Twilight.

You guys are probably right that it wouldn't make sense to put the Dominion Rod and a mirror shard in the Sacred Realm, but I always liked that Temple of Light theory about that dungeon. Otherwise it just seems so random that there's this magic hidden temple inside the Temple of Time that wasn't mentioned in Ocarina of Time. Ye're probably right though.

Oh right, the Temple of Time, I never thought about it like that. Though I have been wondering what's with the weird time bubble the temple seems to be hanging in.
