Majora is the Devil

Flat the Composer says that his brother, Sharp "sold his soul to the devil," when you find his grave. In turn, Sharp says, that he "dreamt for the revival of the Royal Family," once you heal him. Perhaps, if Sharp had met with the "masked one" he speaks of it could have been Skull Kid who used Sharp (perhaps by raising his spirit to talk with him) to find the way into the Stone Tower since Sharp is the "only one who knows the way into the temple." In return Skull Kid, with Majora, may have promised to revive the Royal Family of Ikana which he did, by raising them from the dead. This would mean two things. Sharp is the reason for Ikana's problems and curses and Majora may in fact be the Zelda version of the devil or at least considered a devil just as HylianDan theorized in his "The Message of Majora's Mask" article. Any thoughts?

Re: Majora is the Devil

I Doubt it, it seems unlikely that Nintendo would use a being such as The Devil, to portray a game designed for youth. I really think you're reading to much into it.

Good theory, but it doesn't seem right. I mean Sharp would never do anything bad to Ikana. The undead was cursed and you had to lift the curse. He actually wanted all the problems to go away. I don't think he would act like that on his own.

I think it's more important to remember that Japanese don't believe in the devil, so there wouldn't be such a big thing to put the devil in a game.

Re: Majora is the Devil

First Line = Japanese
Second Line = Literal Translation
Third line = LOLNOA

Quote:
Are you the one who released my soul?
Are you the one who freed my soul?

I am Flat, a composer who served the Ikana Royal Family.
I served the Ikana Royal family. I am the composer called Flat.

The songs left in this land were songs related to the Royal Family that were composed by my older brother and me.
The songs connected to the Royal Family that remain here were all composed by my brother and I.

Oh…Sharp, my dear older brother.
Oh...Sharp, my dear brother.

He sold his soul to a demon and is the one who sealed me here…
He sold his soul to the devil and was the one who locked me in here...

Oh, one who does not fear the dead. I would like you to learn the song engraved behind me well…
You who do not fear the dead, learn well the song that is inscribed behind me...

And if you meet my older brother somewhere, I would like you to tell him something.
And if you ever meet my brother, I'd like you to inform him...

Tell him that the thousands of raindrops my song calls are my tears and the thunder that roars on the earth is my anger!
The thousand years of raindrops summoned by my song are my tears. The thunder that strikes the earth is my anger!

…I’m counting on you.
...I have made my request.
As you can see, the devil is not mentioned in the Japanese text.

Re: Majora is the Devil

Just wondering Pinecove, do you know if that term for demon used in the original Japanese is used for any other figures in Zelda?

Re: Majora is the Devil

I'd say someone possessed by that mask could fit a definition of demon. Though, I don't think Majora is an actual separate entity, just that the mask was so powerful it became somewhat self-aware...

Not that I know of no. It may be referring to Malladus and Ganon, but seriously I doubt it makes a difference.

Re: Majora is the Devil

Ok that makes sense, but I would never think of Majora as a devil and Sharp selling his soul? There must be something wrong with that.

Re: Majora is the Devil

Jovani in TP sold his soul too, right? I don't know what's the original text, but NOE translated "he sold his soul to the Devil". Could someone clarify this one, please?

Here is the NOA translation
Quote:
"I'm Jovani. I...became consumed by greed long ago, and sold my soul to a dark creature that did this to me... I can't move... I can't go see my girlfriend... My pet cat Gengle is frozen on my head... I don't think I could be more miserable... I have to ask you a favor, doggie... Can you find and defeat the 20 ghosts that lurk in the dark for me? I think if you can free the pieces of my soul from the ghosts that hold them, I'll be free..."
It clearly says he sold his soul to the poes.

He's the enchanted/cursed gold guy in the house in Castle Town in Twilight Princess.

Re: Majora is the Devil

The "masked one" I was always confused about. Perhaps a deity who created the giants mask? See it being Majora seems unlikely due to the fact that there is no evidence to show Majora is from Termina. Which means that the "Masked one" spoken of could be anything/hint/artifact within Ikana or even certain parts of Termina. Its tough however because if think about it every area you've been to so far is in the "present" so to speak. While in Ikana its like you are in a shadow of the past. However it is still the past, ancient times. I just find it hard to believe Majora is the masked one.

He's the one who caused destruction in Termina. He's well known for it.

No skull kid is. The only time skull kid is mention in Ikana (IMO) is when Igos Du Ikana says that everything was okay here until someone opened the gates to the Stone Tower again. (Skull Kid, seeing it as a prank)

Skull Kid isn't ancient though, he just ran around with his new powers whipping up storms, poisoning swamps and creating general chaos.

Thank you so much!
I found that quote pretty disturbing while playing TP...

BTW aren't "the masked one" and the "trouble maker" both nicknames of the Skull Kid?
Seeing the amount of damage he brought to Termina another question pops up: how much time did the SK spend in Termina before the events of the game (aka before stealing the Majora's Mask)? Something's wrong and incongruent. The flashback where SK stole the MM from the Happy Mask Salesman has to come after OOT, therefore shortly before MM. But then a lot of people speak about the "trouble maker" as he's been around for quite a while. The frozen mountain, the monsters in Ikana, the polluted sea and poisoned swamp, even Kafei's story, look all like situations going on for quite a while, not just a day or two before Link's arriving. Am I missing something?

I believe there was some sort of time lag, in between when Skull Kid entered Termina and Link did. I don't believe it was a very long time, I highly doubt Skull Kid was responsible for the fall of Ikana. Just opening up the Stone Tower and creating chaos among the spirits.
