Why Theorize?
Why do you, personally, like to theorize on these Zelda forums about the games' timeline(s)?
I believe that most, if not all, theorists that come here have something valuable to contribute to the over-arching legend that encompasses all Zelda games. This makes the game experience richer, more enjoyable, and lets many others see them in a whole new light considering the many connections between them that we theorists are able to make. I personally like to theorize because it's pretty fun to see how ideas can stand the test of time, and how others will grab hold of these ideas and incoporate them into their theories and ideas. The best part is finding out whether or not these theories are true, that they come to life with new games being published, or new quotes confirming theories made by the games' developers. So why do you do it? Why theorize here? Ready...set...GO!

Re: Why Theorize?
Well I like to read the theories more than I like to contribute, because a lot of you guys use really good information that I may have missed because when I play video games I really just get a single minded focus on finishing the objective but with Zelda it was the first game that actually seemed to have a worthy world to explore and find the History of. And being a history major it's really just interesting to see how Hyrule has changed over time and how people interpret it, believe or not most of the conversations you guys talk about happen between archaeologist and historians all the time and I think that's a really cool and fun aspect that this community brings to the universe of Zelda.
And I personally have stopped lurking around because a lot of you guys get to much into the theorizing sometime and I was hoping to lighten the mood. It's why I post random Voltron/Spacey comments all the time. But yeah theorizing is just plain fun.

Re: Why Theorize?
I actually do a lot of my own lurking just to see what other theories are out there, to see what different kinds of info can be shared on the subject of Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda was really the first game series I really ever got into, and, surprisingly, its shape was molded over the years into something intricate and enticing, which led me to want to delve into it further and analyze it game by game and as a whole. Yes, it's very fun ![]()

Re: Why Theorize?
Theorizing is my 'Sudoku'. It's an engaging puzzle that keeps my interest. It's an activity.
I think the Zelda games are fun, but they aren't on the very top of my list of personal favorites, (only ALttP and LA make the 'top 10'). But I find the mythos, ambiance, music and atmosphere of the Zelda games far more intriguing than the actual games themselves. Maybe that's why I'm theorizing instead of playing Zelda right now. I do really enjoy the games, and find myself replaying them for timeline hints.

Re: Why Theorize?
Overall, Zelda is my favorite game series.
Why do I theorize? Well, unlike Mario, which has no overarcing plot, and Metroid, where every game has its own confirmed location in the timeline, Zelda is filled with whole bunches of clues that tie the games to each other. I like theorizing (and mostly watching other people theorize) because it's fun to try and figure out those mysteries which the games' developers have so nicely left us. It's fun for me to theorize about why the Stone Tower has the Triforce inside it, or why there are two different-looking Ganons in the series.

Re: Why Theorize?
More or less, theorizing is just a fancy name for coming and criticizing the literary/visual parts of the Zelda video games.
This entire forum is just a glorified book club. Which is fine, and pretty much sums up why I enjoy theorizing.

Re: Why Theorize?
You guys talk about Lurking. Ha! I'm the king of all lurking on ZU. I've been around this site since '04 and all I ever did was read the posts, never actually posting anything until '07 when I officially joined the site. Even now, all I do is lurk, except when something pikes my interest, or when a major console game is released, lol.

Re: Why Theorize?
I like theorizing just because it gives me a new perspective on ideas. Some call me cocky for never changing my mind, but I usually actually already did, and just continue to argue to get more out of the other guy.
I used to just play the games, and try to connect them myself. I had a decent linear time line and a split one, but now I prefer to not make one until I know, because certain games like Twilight Princess like to screw things over. I made a decent split one since then, but I don't really like it, becuase the few flaws I found, were too many for me, which is why I refuse to make a timeline right now, because I can't think of one without flaws or some fan fiction. I don't think really anyone can either, we can just get close. When ST comes out I'll give her another time line shot, probably post. But for now I like to argue individual points. It's fun.

Re: Why Theorize?
The reason I like theorizing, huh? Probably because I've always been one to take on a challenge and, boy, is Zelda Theorizing challenging! I also find it fun to watch other people's methods of thinking and reasoning and watching the evolution of a debate. (I'm really into psychology.
)On slightly different note, theorizing is really what brought me back to the Zelda series. I hadn't played a Zelda game since the release of ALttP for GBA, but the thought of a theoretical timeline and the challenge it would bring to me brought me back. Anyways, I suppose I could say that I theorize because it's a challenge overall. ![]()

Re: Why Theorize?
Theorizing allows me to tie things together in the Zelda games and really gives people their own experience and way of seeing things depending on their timeline.
It just makes you think differently about the series from everyone else. It's actually just what Miyamoto wants. He said that he wants people to have their own "Zelda story" and experiences. That's probably why the timeline isn't being publicly released.

Re: Why Theorize?
Theorizing adds a new layer to the series that enhances the experience for me.
Another reason for why it intrigues me is because of the secretiveness of the timeline, unlike other most games where there is a confirmed chronology known to the public. It's a giant mysterious puzzle, which is what Zelda games are all about. ![]()

Yeah, people have to turn around at some point. You can't just stare in the same direction forever.
Whether this post was metaphorical or completely random is up to you.
