What if we woke up one morning and Shegeru Miyamoto announces that there is no timeline and that the games are just released in an order that goes by when they were made with certain features i mean sure they all link up but what if that was just one big coincidence?

I suppose as a Zelda community, we as fans are concerned on debating of an existance of a Zelda timeline. It's like their own religion, and I'd have to say they're rather devoted for finding clues to this.

However, I still think the games (Well, MOST) are great regardless of a timeline. I won't flame, but others might as well...

Then one must question: "Does it matter that it came out of Miyamoto's mouth?"

Personally, I'd put more credence into such a statement if Aonuma said it. I don't really see how this matters since this is an unlikely event and would go against everything else they have said in the past.

You said "what if someone says you guys are wrong?" which, to my understanding, is not in any way an argument. Are you expecting people to take this as some sort of offense, your tiny little hypothetical announcement?

I've never looked at the games as being cannon, I've always took them as their own universes unless they are actually sequels like LoZ and AoL.

Trying to get to get all the games to fit in some kind of cannon just doesn't work as there are too many inconsistencies between them. Every version of hyrule is completely different from all the others with completely different topographies, to make the whole Link and Zelda bloodline work there is either alot of inbreeding, or you have to rely on "destiny" to get the heroes to conveniently come about as the bad guys are reeking havoc. I just never bought that idea. I may be wrong, but who cares... its a video game.

TheBattler, you could be a little less assertive, you know? While this thread isnt exactly the best, and no offence to the thread creator, we could still salvage some good discussion here without fufilling the flaming 'prophecy', couldn't we? Anyway, the issue of the timeline can be touchy, despite the fact that it is confirmed. I don't have the exact quote though.

The real question for me has always been; If there is a timeline or not, does it really matter? No story has ever really bridged the gap between two games in a way that renders it meaningful to the plot of another title, really. Confirmed sequels don't even hinge themselves on events of 'earlier' games - look at Majora's Mask - Zelda played a mere cameo role. The Wind Waker, too, referenced the hero of time, but not to any meaningful effect. The games are meant to be enjoyed for themselves, and most direct references to the other titles specifically are minimal. It's no wonder that theorists have trouble differentiating easter eggs from the aspects that hinge the game order.

To answer the thread question, I wouldnt mind if a timeline was somehow confirmed to be nonexistant, because as it stands, it means little to me anyway. However, I would like a timeline to be worthwhile for those who theorise. It's good to see people enjoy the games from different standpoints.

I am a Zelda timeline theorist. I flame people who are skeptical of the existence of a timeline. When they tell me they find it plausible that there is not a timeline, I resort to calling them trolls and attention whores (even if the question is merely hypothetical like this thread) because I'm a fat nerd who wears suspenders.

I know all the Zelda timeline theories, and anyone who disagrees with me and my fashionable suspenders on the existence of a Zelda timeline is a troll and does not have a life.
