A Shield And No Sword

Potential Spoilers.

So, most of us have already seen the concept art for the new Zelda game with Link not wielding a sword. This, of course, is subject to speculation, but consider something Shigeru Miyamoto said this:

Quote:
IGN: At your developer roundtable this week, you showed off a single piece of artwork from the next Wii Zelda game. This piece of art has not yet been released publicly, but we noticed that Link appears to have grown to full adulthood. He looks older than he did in Twilight Princess. Is that a correct assumption?
Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, the story setting for this Zelda is, of course, in a completely different era and Link is older than he was previously. More approaching adulthood. There is one hint. Maybe from the art work you can see that he's not holding a sword.
When I looked at this, the words that jumped out at me were "there is one hint." This seems irregularly placed considering what follows. What he seems to point out doesn't seem to be a hint of anything.

But then I realized something. In the Child Timeline, Link left the Master Sword behind in the Adult Timeline and sealed the Door of Time, which means he doesn't get the Master Sword. This is, of course, confirmed when he uses the Hero's Sword in Majora's mask.

So, my train of thought here is that the Link depicted here is the Link that entered Termina and stopped the moon from falling.

I know some theories put forward have suggested that the creature depicted with Link may be the embodiment of the Master Sword, but mayhaps there's more to it than that.

Thoughts?

Link didn't leave the Master Sword in the Adult timeline.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge8zd1ZR-hc

You can see at the 9:30's that Link is in his Child timeline and the Master Sword is in the Pedestal.

The Reason the Hero's sword is used is because Link DID leave the Master Sword in its rightful place.

Both the Adult and Child Timelines have a Master Sword as evidenced by TP and WW

What I mean is that he sealed the Door of Time; not that he left it in the Adult Timeline.

Hm?

Re: A Shield And No Sword

It's pretty simple for the Royal Family to get through the sealed door of the Temple of Time, so retrieving the MS on the CT is no issue.

I think this other era Miyamoto is referring to is something pre-Master Sword, perhaps a tale of its forging. The hint is that Link has no sword in his depiction in the artwork. Either the tale will evolve around the absence of a sword, or entail his retrieval of a sword. Or perhaps the sword will be more integral within the overall Zelda series thanks to this game.

Those are my thoughts on the matter.

Anyone notice the red/orange glow in the background? What types of objects are made in places that would be glowing red/orange eh? A sword? eh? hahaha

While true, Link isn't a part of the Royal Family and in the child timeline, he's not really considered a hero.

Very well possible. I just think it was odd that he said that Link not having a sword was a hint about Link.

I like this, this seems plausible. Has the origins of the master sword ever been talked about in a confirmed sort of way? Not the reason it was made but the how it was made. It's possible this thought could go along with the theory that the girl in the picture is some sort of embodiment of the Master sword. Perhaps her spirit, essence, body, ect. whatever you want to call it, maybe it is forged, sealed in, ect. into the master sword, thus giving us the master sword.

Re: A Shield And No Sword

That would make this the first Zelda game then, wouldn't it? I've never played Minish Cap, so I don't know its story, but I would assume the forging of the Master Sword would precede it.

I'm not a theorist so don't quote me on this, but I've been under the impression the TMC was number one. The four sword preceeds the master sword. But again, don't quote me on that.

Re: A Shield And No Sword

To my knowledge, The Minish Cap is first too. Though, I feel it's worth noting that (this is hearsay as I haven't seen it myself) if you zoom out on the map in the game, it's a small island in a vast ocean, which many presume to mean it proceeds Wind Waker.

Nevertheless, the Minish Cap being first now doesn't mean that the new game can't be first when it comes out. Before Minish Cap, Ocarina of Time was first.

Re: A Shield And No Sword

It's possible tMC could be hundreds of years later and takes place in the oft-rumored "New Hyrule" that Link and Tetra from WW are supposed to find (not to mention that ST seems to take place in this "New Hyrule" and is set after the events of WW).

I like placing tMC first though for symbological purposes. At any rate, let's not turn this thread into a tMC placement argument...as has been done in the past.

Anyway, if tMC is first, then this new Zelda simply comes between it and OoT, easy as that. If tMC is a game that takes place after WW, then this new Zelda becomes the first. This is all hypothetically based on my theory that this new Zelda is a tale of the forging of the Master Sword, of course.

^ Or, Sparty, we don't know anything about the game, so it's way to early to say that.

Is it too early for hypotheticals? Really? I'm sure you have some ideas about the up and coming game as well. No use telling me to shove it and move on just because you don't like me

I do have my hopes, but here's really what I think

- Another new Zelda game, same gameplay, same dungeons, nothing different except for a train to replace a boat. Maybe a new final boss, probably not Ganon or Vaati, a potential Bellum. They'll find a way to it. That's really it .

Edit: Oh crap, I talked about Spirit Tracks there

For ZWii: We'll have some new gameplay, but nothing much to extraordinary. We'll see Ganon again, in some form. Princess will be in danger, we'll have to go rescue her. Nintendo won't screw with that formula.
