WW and PH are different worlds.

There are Gorons in PH, whereas they are almost extinct in WW.

So therefore, WW doesn't have Gossip Stones and PH does.

Hold on, we see but a few Goron merchants, but where is there any indication
of the number of Gorons alive during the Wind Waker? The eskimo salesman
probably came from a place off the WW map, maybe the Gorons did too. Only

I think maybe the Gorons left Death Mountain before Hyrule was sealed away under
the sea, and the Zoras-who-became-Rito took up residence there. Maybe the
Goron migration was a result of Ganon's return to Hyrule, remember how
he locked up the Gorons to feed them to Volvagia? Remember how Death
Mountain was Ganon's base of operations in LoZ? Not a good place for Gorons
during Ganon's reign of terror.

Actually, good point. In TP, it shows that the Gorons can live underwater without inhaling oxygen to survive, so perhaps they could be living underwater in WW to escape from Ganondorf's return and to live in complete hiding?

But if so, why is there the three Gorons that risk their lives just for trading merchandise with the Eskimo salesman? Aren't they aware of the dangers or did they travel from someplace else with another race of Gorons?

It's only a risk if they're actually hiding. There's reason to believe the Gorons' home was flooded and they simply were content enough underwater.

Then why does Goron Link drown?

Perhaps because when he sinks his mind still thinks he needs to breath (being a hylian and all) and ends up drowning, when a "real" goron's mind doesn't gasp for air under water.

Just an idea

I think the underwater Goron in TP was just for gags.

I always thought (after I played TP of course) that Goron Link only appeared to drown because he had no way of getting out of the water due to his massive weight.

just what I think; doesn't mean it's necessarily right.

Then why do we see a baby Goron trying to hold his breath underwater?

Trying to? it succeeded in doing so, and then say that no matter how long he holds his breath he never feels the need to take another.

This seems to suggest that they dont need to take air into their lungs until they are prompt to talk to someone, and even then they might not need air as the medium to talk with as we have another Goron in the same game talking to you while being several feet under water.

Maybe they are like hippos or whales and only need to take a breath every few hours or something.

They all turned into fishmen .
