The ALttP Backstory

OK, we've all played A Link to the Past and there has been massive speculation about whether the backstory before the game itself is the Imprisoning War (Seal War) that is chronicled in Ocarina of Time or something else. For my first thread, I'll give my own opinion and then let you guys talk about it.

(Please note: this is the English translation of the SNES version of the game.)

Long ago, in the beautiful kingdom of Hyrule surrounded by mountains and forests...
legends told of an omnipotent and omniscient Golden Power that resided in a hidden land.
Many people aggressively sought to enter the hidden Golden Land...
But no one ever returned.
One day evil power began to flow from the Golden Land...
So the King commanded seven wise men to seal the gate to the Land of the Golden Power.
That seal should have remained for all time...
... ...But, when these events were obscured by the mists of time and became legend...
A mysterious wizard known as Agahnim came to Hyrule to release the seal. He eliminated the good King of Hyrule...
Through evil magic, he began to make the descendants of the seven wise men vanish, one after another.
And the time of destiny for Princess Zelda is drawing near.

Now, I know this is a slightly outdated version of the ALttP backstory, but I'll still be able to make my argument with it.

When I read this, it doesn't scream "Seal War" like it may for some people. Instead, I have a different interpretation of this backstory.

After the goddesses created Hyrule, they left behind the Triforce and decided a good place to keep it would be the Golden Land. Word got out and the Hyrulean Civil War ignited.

During the fighting, the Dark Interlopers tried to capture the Golden Land for themselves.

One day evil power began to flow from the Golden Land...

So the goddesses thrust the Interlopers into the Twilight Realm and had the King of Hyrule (supposedly the Hero of Men, who helped unite Hyrule shortly after) command seven wise men (the Ancient Sages from TP) seal away the Golden Land. Somewhere in the process, they created the Master Sword to act as a "key" of sorts to the Golden Land.

So the King commanded seven wise men to seal the gate to the Land of the Golden Power.

I'd like to note that there is no mention of a person getting trapped into the Golden Land (if this is the Seal War). The seal created by the wise men was to keep the people out and the dark power in.
This evidence would support a CT placement (after TP) of ALttP because the backstory of ALttP is pre-OoT, not OoT itself.

Anyway, this is probably an old argument, but I'd just like to share my thoughts and hear some of yours. Thanks!

You have a VERY strong argument going for you here. Your taking all the pieces from the game to glue them together into an ultimate pieceing.

I'm still a believer of the AT though, and that while Link was sealed in the sacred realm, the war happend, and thus Link traps Ganon when releaced. I really do think you have a strong argument here though, especially with Nintendo changing everything.

CT FSA and "obscured by the mists of time." OP, I subscribe to the same theory.

Also, was that NoA or NoJ?

How do you explain something like that?

After thought: If that is true (the ALttP manual quote) why not put that in the game? The SNES is just fine for telling stories (just look at FFVI), why not just add that one line into the game?

Because NES and SNES didn't know what a story or proper dialogue was. So any small talk that isn't needed to pass the game was thrown in the manual.

Makes sense, but not necessarily true (at least for Nintendo). Again, I point to one of the FF's of the generation. Square Soft (or was it Enix, I can't remember which did what...) knew how to tell a great story and pretty much none of it was in the manual.

Yep... but even FF 1 has zero story lol, more is in the manual. It's just how things rolled back then. And it's Square Enix.

unfortunately NoA since I couldn't find a japanese version of the manual. but from what i've heard, the stories match up relatively well with the exception of NoA's version of how the MS was created.
