[Poetry] A few free verse poems

Wow! I made it to my second page! I'd like to celebrate this milestone, but Pseud O Nym took the first post on this page =P. Seriously though, thanks to anyone thats been reading these. And I'm glad that the explanation could be of some use Pseudo.

Withdrawal
Withdrawing from the world
A tide that will never come in
Hiding away from hostility
Into a shell that will never hurt me
No more than a pebble to get kicked around,
but at least I won’t feel the impact.



This one pretty much explains what I've been doing lately. I haven't been feeling much of anything, but that might be because I had a few essays due. Anywhoo, hope you enjoyed it, and all my other stuff!

I like your latest one. My favorite line is the one regarding the shell.

Snowflakes
As one, a snowflake like no other
among others, a blanket that wipes away all other features
But there isn’t just one snowflake at a time
you only ever see the blanket of snow.



The Walking Dead
This sinking sensation
An unshakable feeling
The dead walk among the living
Life rots from their faces
and though it does not show their core rots more

The indiscriminate disdain for those who seek delight
destroys the daylight of the soul
A mask may hide my rotting flesh
But my core will always long for more



Gasp, not the snowflakes! Anything but those!

City Parks
A symphony of birds and bees,
the wind and trees
Cut short by that cough in the audience
The constant sound of cars that continue to kill the harmony
Like a mirage that always fades away.
The silent symphony just sold out.

Nicely done! I like the first two lines. The wonders of nature appeal to me.

Thanks once again Pseudo! I've started to enjoy going on walks, but no matter where I go I can always hear the highway. Nature can be a very beautiful thing =).



Cold Mornings
Waking up without you has withered my will beyond recognition
A blizzard beside me is all that keeps me company
Coping with the cold has turned me to stone
Demons of Medusa lay in my bed instead




The Key to Happiness
The door to happiness has no lock.
Quit searching for the key.
All you need to do,
Is turn the handle and walk on through.

Just putting it in a sentence frames this poem’s picture
Are these writings just another way to look at myself?
Do I just hang these up on the wall for me to admire the parts of me that pictures can’t see?

Endless Eyes
Looking at the sky,
Reminded of her eyes.
I’m staring through a blue million miles.




Phoenix
A phoenix, rising from the flames of infatuation.
Feelings dead and gone get a new life and body
No matter how many times this bird is broken and stabbed in the back
The inferno will keep it flying.
Relighting the love that lifts existence to another level.



Story Time
Dark streets and narrow passages
Shadows shepherded by shocks of lightning
The augmented rain on the window pane sends shivers in the hearts of children
Every step accompanied by a crash of thunder
The howling wind completes this shadow symphony

Sweat drips from every pore
It hangs off my face
as if afraid to hit the floor
Demise is just around the corner

Swimming
There are many more fish in the sea,
but you've got me hooked on your line.
I'm at your mercy.
Reel me in to eat.
or set me free.




Exam Time
Droopy eyes and soulless stares
Sleepless nights spent suffocating

Students start to lose their grip
Heads fall like meteors into paper pillows

Soon it’ll all be over,
But it’s harder to stay standing near the end




Hello again, I've got two more today. I like the first one a lot because it puts me in the position of the fish rather than the fisherman, I think its a refreshing way to look at relationships. The second one is me complaining about studying. In any case, I hope you enjoy and have a nice day =)

It Overtakes Me
Dance along to the sound of two people together
Remember the way we’d sway
Let it take you out of your cage and feel the freedom

There’s lightning in the instant I get swept away
The wind whisks me wherever I dream
In the eye of the storm we make together

I really like this work you've assembled here, Awesomecake. Taking a bite of your work has given me...food for thought. *dodges several pun tomatoes* Seriously, this is thoughtfully done poetry with plenty of twists to go around. You're a true natural and you hit some pretty intimate levels of human experience.

Urgh, gross. My last update was over a week ago. Exam Time kinda explains that one. But in that time I've got two comments! Thank you soo much Ralph for commenting, I always love hearing any kind of feedback for stuff I write, and hearing nice things makes it worth it =D. I'd have replied sooner but I don't like to comment if I don't have content. BEASTJAZZ, thank you for the punishment. heheheh. You are far too kind! A natural that hits intimate lavels of human existence? Thats some compliment. I do sort of consider myself a frequenter, usually I update this thread like twice a week and I do keep up with most of the other poetry threads. I will on occasion check out some short stories too.I would also love to take a look at your threads!


With that said, I have another two today that I hope you will all enjoy.



Quicksand
No matter how much I’m surrounded
I’ll always be lonely.
These others around me are only quicksand
Pulling me under.
Funneling my frustration .
Pouring pain on old wounds.



Roots
I’ve planted my roots in dead soil
I need nutrients,
But left here, I won’t be fed.

They dig too deep
I don’t think I can move.
There’ll be no blossoms again this year



So yeah, with exams done I'll probably be moving back to cheerier things, and updating a bit more if I can get my creative brain back again. Until then, I hope your days are all awesome.

Dissolving demons
The ashes of evil scattered to the wind
The thirst for blood quenched by a breath

The trees whistle with whimsy

Possibilities
To never know
is to forever hear an echo
An overwhelming noise inside
When only silence surrounds you

A companionless chaos,
solitary sadness detached from reality
from loss of what wasn’t yours

Death
A room
Filled to the brim with people.
No room to move or breathe.
A hell on earth.
Why don’t I have more room?

One by one
The bodies drop.
I am the only one left .
A hell on earth.
Where are all the people?

Blood
The depths of darkness run through these veins
A cap is all that keeps the flow from staining the hearts around me

The hand that kills conviction need only extend its fingers to release the poison blood
But the same blood runs through this hand

A purging push only increases the pressure
and there is no antidote for anger
My own light can never reach these depths
Illumination can only come if another source reaches my soul



Leaves
An anniversary of death
The tree weeps for its fallen children
Depression and a coma

But buds spring forth
The fears are frozen in time for those months that life returns
All there is to care about are the decorations

Yet they quiver in the wind
Destined to fall
They count the days till their anniversary

A new star in the sky
A beacon for sailors searching the seas for a place to dock
They will never reach it

They follow shy, shaking star
A beacon to uncharted lands
ready to fall from the sky
