Help for a title.

Hello, everyone. I've been working on a Zelda fan fiction of sorts for about 2-3 months now and it's been going fairly well. I plan to post what I've written on ZU fairly soon and I'm really excited to throw it out there.

There are a couple of things, though, that keep me from posting immediately. One of the biggest being that I don't have a proper title. I've gone from "alpha" titles like "Untitled Zelda Project" to something a bit more concrete: Keys of Darkness. As the story evolved, however, I found that the title was no longer appropriate and I've been looking for a new one for a while now. This is where you guys come in.

I want to keep the "Keys of" part, but it's the noun at the end that is to replace "Darkness" that I'm unsure about. With the story as it is now, I'm considering something with a "balance" theme to it. I've been going through synonyms for "balance" (and also considering "balance" itself), but nothing seems to be catchy enough for what I'm looking for. The trick is, I'm looking for something that doesn't necessarily have any "peaceful" connotations to it, like "harmony", for instance. It has a "balance" meaning to it, but the connotation of "peace" that goes with it isn't a characteristic of the story.

Anyway, hopefully I haven't thoroughly confused you and hopefully you can help me get this done so I can share my work with you guys ASAP. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Keys of Equilibrium?

That has actually been my #1 choice as of now, but it seems like a nice mouthful... I'm probably going to end up with that, but I'd rather have something that was one syllable shorter.

I'm picky when it comes to these things. xD

I hear ya; I hate picking titles.

It'd be a heck of a lot easier if I knew what the story was about.

Well, the point of the title is that (spoilers just in case people care ) a focus of the story is that the Trident of Power and the Master Sword were both created, basically in tandem, one good and one evil, to counteract each other. That's all I'm willing to give you as far as that goes.

Well then why Keys Of? Wouldn't it be better if the title had something pertaining to "Destiny"?

Keyes of Life and Death??

I'd rather have one word at the end. Keys of Life is on the right track, but not exactly what I'm looking for. However, keep throwing stuff out, no matter what it is. Everything is appreciated.

Well, if it fits best with "Keys of" I'd go with equilibrium. Not only does it fit- it sound bad ass.

Okay, well, I went through again (thank goodness for thesaurus.com >>) and I made up a list of titles that I thought were nice:

Keys of Balance
Keys of Equilibrium
Keys of Contention
Keys of Stasis
Keys of Symmetry
Keys of Stability
Keys of Contrast
Keys of Conflict
Keys of Harmony
Keys of Serenity (credit to Masterofmind for this one)

In there are a combination of synonyms for "balance" and "counteraction". My favorite of those are "Keys of Equilibrium" and "Keys of Contention". Here's the run down:

Keys of Equilibrium is almost exactly what I'm looking for. It's a great word meaning "balance". It does sound great and would make a great title. However, personally, it's one syllable too long for a "legitimate" and "catchy" Zelda title.

Keys of Contention is a great example of "counteraction", which is also exactly what the Trident and Master Sword do in my fan fic. It has a really nice ring to it because of the alliteration and is the perfect length- it isn't nearly as much of a mouthful as Keys of Equilibrium. However, again, I come into the problem of it being a "legitimate" Zelda title... I mean, that just kinda screams "fan fic", don't you think?

I don't know what my problem with that is, but I'll probably end up choosing one of those two unless something else comes up that I really like. What do you think?

So, for those of you who care (and those who don't ) I've decided on "Keys of Equilibrium" as my new official title for now. Thanks to Solsetur and Masterofmind for helping me out.
