Conclusion

I'm not going to try to spoil anything, but...

In my story, (http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/...continued.html) I'm thinking about the conclusion and having an important character die to make it interesting. What do you think?

Re: Conclusion

As long as the death of the character serves a greater purpose in the story than just you merely trying to throw one final twist at the reader and it doesn't contradict any of the characters you've created, then I say go for it.

For the most part, such an idea is horribly cliché. It has been done to death countless times. If you think there's no other way to end the story besides a character dying, then by all means, go for it. I would think about different ways to end the story first before you head that direction, though.

Re: Conclusion

Hmm, true. But without death the story would become too predictable.

Re: Conclusion

Killing off a character doesn't make a story any less predictable than if you left the character alive. It sounds like you're only wanting to do this to be dramatic and to not actually achieve some sort of purpose. You can have plenty of twists and turns without killing characters off.

Re: Conclusion

If the character dying helps the plot than it could work. However, with this being a conclusion... that's not possible. Unless, of course, a direct sequal were to be made or something.

The only real way that's effective is if it's done as a form of character development; as such, that's best done either in the beginning or the middle of the story. The end is a horrible place, unless you plan on making a sequel to the story that continues the adventure. =/

That's what I ment, but a word or two were wrong.
