June Writing Contest

Welcome one and all to the next monthly writing contest, this one is appropriately titled 'June Writing Contest' due to its association with the current month. This ZU Member suggested 'Super Writing Contest Ultra Force Go' but was voted down at the meeting. I guess at the next meeting someone just won't bring the chicken sandwiches and home-made lamingtons, not that I'm bitter about it or anything.

So I suppose you're all wanting details about this month's contest. Geez, if it's not one thing it's another. Well, we're going to change it up a bit. 'What, change?!' I hear you scream at your monitor, 'but change is scary and bad!'. Now just calm down a smidge, you'll get used to it, just like we all got used to Edward Norton replacing Eric Bana or Maggie Gyllenhal replacing Katie Holmes. And if The Hulk and Batman can cope with change then I think there's a lesson for us all. This time we're going to be writing a scene. Let's say, between 300 and 500 words. So you're going to write a scene as if it was an excerpt from a larger story.

This month's theme is "And that's when he/she got mad" . I should note the 'he/she' doesn't mean to say that you have to write about someone without a distinct gender...unless you wanted to.

The closing date for entries is June 28 2009. Don't hand them in last year or next year.

Entries are to be PMed to either myself or Holly and they will be placed in the voting thread anonymously.

Okie dokie, just so we don't have anyone confused here is a recap:

Style: A scene excerpted from a larger story
Theme: "And that's when he/she got mad"
Length: 300 - 500 words
Closing date: June 28 2009
Send entries to: Mr Spork or Holly
Snacks at next meeting: None 'cause people are jerks and don't like my ideas.

Alrighty, let's see what sort of succulent scene scribing we can come up with! What? Yeah, succulent is appropriate. You don't lick your books? ...huh. Just me then?

Do our entries have to be written in a play/movie script format?

No, they don't. Regular story format is what we're going for here.

Re: June Writing Contest

I don't think so you just have to set up the scene when he/she got mad.

You can incorporate the theme however you want. Whether this is from a character saying that phrase, from the actions in the scene, from someone seeing a sign that says this, a character getting mad.

You are free to incorporate the theme in any way you want.
