Before we begin...

I would like to congratulate everyone who has signed up to take on this challenge: while the word count for your novella is slightly less that what NaNoWriMo expects, it is no less a considerable task.

Because there seems to be a bit of confusion for those who aren't familiar with NaNoWriMo, I'd like to take this opportunity to make a few things clear before we begin.

At the end of the month, you are expected to have a 30,000 word novella. Everything you write for ZNWM is supposed to be for ONE story. The goal isn't just to write 30,000 words in a bunch of different stories - you are working towards finishing a single, longform piece.

You should write to the best of your ability, as always - but it is recommended that you do not spend time on editing, because the purpose is to FINISH A LONG PIECE OF WRITING. As I've said before, always keep going. Don't get hung up on making it perfect - for now, you just want to get it done.

If you are posting a thread here (and really, Lozzie went to all the trouble to make a board so I encourage people to do so), make sure you have either [Or] (original fiction) or [fF] (zelda fan fiction) in the title, so we know who is gunning for what.

The sign up thread will be closed at midnight tonight (time zone to be determined by Lozzie).

Wherever you are in the world, writing begins October 1st at 12:01 am.

On October 30th (or soon before), I'll post another thread on how to have your story verified/end-of-challenge stuff.

I think I'll just be posting what I write per day with the word count... That is what you mean, right?

I don't think you have to make a thread, but it's good if you do, all the while posting your progress as well as your word count, so, yeah.

I'm gonna have no free time with this. Cool. =]

My idea centers around a lovely little dream I had about a year ago. I love my dreams.

It would be a good idea to maybe start a "word count thread" to let everyone know where you are...

ONE STORY?

Well, I plan to slightly bend these rules. Or perhaps break them. Yes. Break might be right.

I have mine planned out as being many short stories all connected into one common meaning and theme taking place in the same universe and perhaps having some characters meeting and interacting.

Steinbeck did it. He has a noble peace prize. I'm doing it too.

Two questions.

Firstly, can we use the fF marker for any kinds of fan fiction, or must it specifically be Zelda fan fiction? I'd like to do things right, and while my story is by no means a Zelda fiction, it is still a fan fiction.

Also, should we add the maturity rating (or any other technical non-title tidbits) to the thread title like any other time? Thanks.

I would think that since this is a Zelda site, the fF tag should be on Zelda fics...

Is play/script format good? Cause thats what I plan to use.

I just now got to check out this writing deal, and I still have almost two hours before October 1st in my timezone, but the thread where you sign up is locked! Would it be possible to make a small exception and let me sign up?

Thanks! I have ideas for a Zelda fanfic that I've wanted to do for quite some time now. This is the perfect motivation!

Also, does anyone know of any software that counts how many words you have? I don't have Microsoft Word.

If you have Microsoft Works on your computer, that would work as well...

Or, if you have some issues, we can count your words for you.

You can download open office here.
It's basically the equivalent of Microsoft Office (which includes Microsft Word) and it's free.

Oh..duh! That's right! I have Open Office! I guess I didn't really know that it had a word count command. Thanks for the tip! ^_^

Thread ratings are necessary for anything rated [T] or [M].

Because there's some funny business with timezones, a few people have been added late - but as of right now, sign-up is closed.

A series of interconnected short stories is a fine (and clever) way of getting around the 'one story' problem.

[fF] is specifically for fiction that is going to be counted in the Zelda stream. Even if your writing fan fiction from another source, for the purpose of this challenge, you will be counted under [Or]. If you want, you can put [OrfF] for the sake of honesty.

I'll start a thread for word counts, for those not posting their stories here.

Can I write in a play/script format?

And what about the person the writes the most?

You can do a script format if you want - but that means you need stage direction/scene description as well.

Since this is not a competition so much as a challenge, there will be no special prize for the person who writes the most.

Curious - Can we comment on ZUNoWriMo novellas while they are being written, or does that depend upon the wishes of the author, whether they would like reviews during the process or not? Or should reviews wait until the end of the month?
