There was nothing embarrassing about it. After seeing all the bizarre things in the first two movies, an alien band really isn't that.. well, alien.
You're right, there's nothing embarrassing or dated about any of this

That's the original 80's version of the Max Rebo band. And even so, it's supposed to be some sleazy alien band forced to perform for Jabba. What exactly do you expect?

Lucas changed it anyway for the special edition.

Well, that's your opinion. Some people liked it some, some didn't, some just didn't care. It's a short piece of the film that means nothing by the movie's end. It was meant to show the atmosphere of Jabba's Palace. The things that go on.

Re: Favorite Star Wars film

Not really, it was just a stupid attempt to try and create the same kind "Oh my God, it's Aliens doing something we never expect them to do" thing that was done first and better in New Hope with that Cantina band. Because the Cantina didn't have a 2 minute "Oh look at me clip". It allowed you to observe it at a distance and appreciate it. The way the clip and scene were shot just made it look like a Muppet's skit, it was a terrible unnecessary poorly shot scene that was a detriment to the movie. Not a large one, but one of the many.

Otherwise I won't comment on much because from what I've seen, people are grossly overestimating George Lucas's writing depth.

I'd have to say 1,2, and 3; I think Anakin's story is far more interesting than Luke's and I'm a sucker for the visual effects and well choreographed fights.

Revenge of the Sith. If anything, for General Grievous, man. But also for all the planets visited (especially Mustafar) and the story involved.

Re: Favorite Star Wars film

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Phantom Menace
6. Attack of the Clones

I could not get into the prequel trilogy at all. I didn't care about most of the characters. I absolutely hated Anakin; in fact, the only time I enjoyed his on screen time in the prequels was when his face melted off and he turned into Darth Vader.

As far as special effects are concerned, I prefer fake-looking miniatures and stop-motion over fake-looking computer animation.
There were definitely some cool parts, but all in all, not a fan of the prequels.

You sir win the internet's. In terms of story telling, the new trilogy just fails.

Well, I guess when you're professionally rating it as a non-starwars fan...I could see where you're coming from. It mostly turned into that huge action movie that kept people on the edge of their seats...and there was nothing wrong with that, you wanted a giant ending to starwars 3 back then and that's what happened.

Now, besides that, all the things that are needed to complete the story felt driven in between action and battles as quickly as possible to get it out of the way. (Yoda's death, Han's return and the yacht was decimated by Luke like in three minutes. Though I admit, it was cool).

Still, I prefer 6 because it was fun. It was back when I was a kid, and Starwars...well, it really hit kids the most. I think even Lucas said that somewhere, I swear, I just can't remember. Though don't assume, I don't like where Clone Wars is headed at all.

Empire would be the profession critic's choice. No argument there. Probably the last time Starwars was taken seriously as "great movie" at a movie critic level.

EDIT:

Quote:
People are both good and bad. No-one's JUST one or the other. Vader was ALWAYS in Anakin... there's a deleted scene from The Phantom Menace where Qui-Gon has to stop him beating the snot out of Greedo for insulting him. Palpatine didn't introduce anything to Anakin that wasn't already there. Disassociating Vader from Anakin was a critical failure of Obi-Wan's; even in RotJ, he STILL hasn't learned his lesson and refuses to believe that there's any good in him at all, that Luke MUST kill him. Luke shows him how wrong he is. In the end, both Anakin and ObiWan stand side by side, having learned something important from the young Skywalker: that you don't abandon people who lose their way, and that forgiveness is the only way to break a cycle of hatred.
Oh man! This!

Bravo man! That is an excellent way of putting things, and I couldn't agree more. ESPECIALLY with that last sentence, which applies to real life as well. That's why the movies will always be the biggest thing in starwars. The true light side of the force isn't fighting evil in the way of killing the host of it, but just getting rid of it. Luke fixes that problem within the Jedi Order which has plagued it for who knows how long.
