The railroads moving West being a major plot element, and straining..just about everyone. Ranches and entire towns being uprooted and forced out by the US Govt, because of the RR's incursion. On top of that, all the expected Native-Mexican-American triangle of fun, and the pressure from the East to "tame the wild west"

I dunno, I watched 3:10 to Yuma last night, and I have all sortsa crazy plans for this sorta thing.

my favorite westerns are all ones where it's about the government/progress encroaching on communities and trying to stamp out the whoring and violence, so sounds about right up my alley

EDIT: alrighty, I got a premise/want to start one. let me know if you are interested. it's kind of cliche but could be fun!

it takes place in a world that is straddling the old and new, and powered by magic! the modern conveniences of heat, cool, running water and light exist in cities as governed by The Governors, a central body of 4 elemental wizards, superior in their respective magical fields (heat, cold, light, water) who give up their lives in meditation to maintain the technologies so the cities may thrive. at universities, magitechnicians study ways to harness the magic in a way that the governor system might not be necessary.

the cities are becoming more modern, more efficient, and better-sanitized; and the universities within them are centers of knowledge. But out in the country it's pretty old-world, so there is an inevitable clash of ideas.

the story will begin late one winter's night when a Governor of Light goes missing, and an entire city goes dark.

I know I'm a n00b here still for all practical reasons, even if I joined back in 08... but... I have an RP premise I've been far too nervous to put in the other RP section.

I did it on another site once and it died... I've been working on it ever since for a story... now that there's a less structured RP area here, I think I might just say the premise here to see if anyone would be slightly interested.

I call it CyberSteam.

Two worlds exist:

A world where in the 1800s, under the rule of Queen Victoria, the British Empire became a super power lasting till the mid-21st century, America, France, the German Empire (the Second Reich, not the Third!), and the Russian Czardom are the most powerful nations of this world, a massive steampunk world where marvelous contraptions running off steam exist. The Royal Imperium of Space, the British Empire's space agency, has been experimenting along with the United States in the new field of quantum physics lately, when something happens, ripping a hole in space...

Another world is where in the 1900s, at the height of the Cold War in the 60s, the United States and the Soviet Union began IDing citizens with barcodes, began more authoritive systems. This world became one obsessed with cybernetics, implants becoming common, virtual reality beginning to become a huge fad. With the Commusphere and the Amerosphere competing now, as the two superpowers, the USSR began research in quantum physics. In doing so, they too ripped a hole in space...

Now the two Earths are in a singular universe, a point in space - the Anomaly - between them, as a center of gravity, both Earths orbiting it. The Steampunk Earth, where the world is marvelously advanced despite running off steam, and the Cyberpunk Earth, where citizens are oppressed and fear their governments, despite the amazing technologies they have.

You'd choose which of the Earths you're from, and the CyberEarth is preparing to invade the SteamEarth, seeing it as a perfect opportunity to spread out and get more resources.

Admittedly that's all I have but I think it's at least moderately good. I tend to RP with the players building the plot...

Lly, I'd totally get in on that, as long as I'm home for enough time to get in on that.

Also, I plan to get active in here after the 20th of July, as I wont be home until then starting Tuesdayish.

I'd love to do a Lord of the Rings RP.

I will be starting a semi-modern, Post-Spirit Tracks world, steampunk-influenced Zelda roleplay soon.

I'm organising a small roleplays between Gamzee, Pheonixink and maybe one or two other people within the universe I've created o: Just a small thing, to kick off interest or something. It'll probably be the first of a series of short rps taking place before the founding of the republic

One question;
Can I play as Ghirahim?
I want to join regardless, but I still want to try roleplaying as him. Seems like such a fun character.
Dunno how it would fit, seeing as pre-SS Demise would be about and that would mean no reason for him to have his human form. ;_;

Yes please.

As I discussed with Severus over IRC last night, I would probably set it in the 20's and have it be both Cthulhu and Lovecraftian. Meaning I don't expect us to meet a great old one or elder god for a long time. At the very least not in their true form (perhaps Nyarlathotep will try to trick us or make a deal of some sort?)

Though, since this is the VCR, we won't have to worry too much about WELL THIS DIDN'T EXIST UNTIL 1932 WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥", I don't want us to get all caught up over details. Just like the MAJOR ♥♥♥♥, like no computers exist, women and blacks aren't equal to white men, etc.

haha, this place is like everything the BA deliberately avoids. POKEMON RP. STAR WARS RP. MLP RP. HOMESTUCK RP. ZELDA RP.

This place would be awesome if some of the original RP's would kick off. What I like about this place better than the BA is how the story comes first, then the characters. The BA is cool but I'm not sure what I think of the mishmash of characters you get. A lot are great but some are very meh
