[PS] - Super Mario Signature Tutorial - [***]

[Outcome]

Tutorial

In this tutorial I tried to cover lots of techniques.
You will learn about:
- What type of render to use
- Flow and depth
- Clipping masks
- Adjustment layers
- Lighting
- How to use c4d renders
- Pen tooling
- How to make your own scatter brushes
- Text
- Borders

- - -

The tut is pretty long, so it may take a while to do. Or load. Or something.
Even if you're not all that experienced with Photoshop, I encourage you to have a go.
I tried to explain things as well as I could, so y'know. Have fun with it.

Things I used:
Render
Stock
c4d render

Fonts:
Print Clearly
Futurist fixed-width
Tschich

I don't own the render, stock, c4d render, or fonts.

If there's any questions, just ask away.
Have fun with this guys, I hope to see some nice results. B]

Very nice tut, Ed! However, I'm unable to do it. God, PS 5.0 can't do any tutorials I dig up.

You know what, on second thought, I just might be able to do this tut after all. PS 5.0 doesn't have some of the tools used in that tut, but I think I can pull off the stuff by other means. I'll post my result later. :]

This tut has also given me some ideas.

All of my new ideas have been results of people's tuts. I go crazy on Deviant Art. ^_^ I wish the stuff I think of on my own would be that cool though. >.>

Well...I tried, but I couldn't do it. I had to stop at the part with the gradient map. PS 5.0 is officially ****. >.>

I can't afford an upgrade...nor am I old enough to get one. It requires a credit card and my parents have said no. Looks like yet another failed attempt at one of Ed's tuts for me.

You can do that some of that stuff Yamari. You can't do splatters but that's just randomly placing brushes in spots with different looking shapes. (Places brushes filter>liquify and mess them up like sploches.) Also clipping masks can be used by selecting areas and erasing the outer parts of it. It's really not the lack of the programs ability, just trying to make way with it.

Instead of just giving up, you should skip the steps you're unable to do and make up your own. Be creative. Just because your PS isn't capable of doing some things, I'm sure you could do some other stuff instead. Whatever you think works best.

I have PS7, too. I can't really help you with that though, 'cause I don't download brushes. Maybe try working more with default brushes, or make your own. Experiment. ;]

That's what I tried to do, Ed. I tried to apply the gradient thing another way, but PS 5.0 can't do much with gradients. And neither can stupid IR.

What I meant was, skip those steps completely. Don't worry about gradient maps, if your PS isn't capable of doing them, then so be it. They aren't really all that necessary, especially if you can't do them. Just think of something else to do for those steps, anything. I think there's only two steps with gradient maps, so y'know. Don't give up just because you can't complete it, do what you can and see how it goes.

WAIT ED. D:

I decided to do some fooling around with gradients in PS 5.0 and I found a way to imitate the gradient map effect. I did a bunch of other parts of the tut with it, including the clipping masks, lighting, pentooling, the border, and pretty much all of it except for a few steps.

Ma result. :]

Omigod.

Wow, I'm impressed. I see that you've completed what you can, nice. It's good to see that you gave it a go. See, that is one of the better sigs I've seen from you. Once you get the hang of doing stuff like that, see if you can make another one without looking at the tut. This way you'll pick up things easier, it may take a bit of practice though. See how you go. ;]

Yes, yes. That's exactly what I had in mind, Ed. I was gonna test myself later and see if I can make another one without looking at the tut. I've got a very good, filing cabinet-like memory, so I feel confident.

lmfao

I have that exact same C4D set.

Ill try it out soon. Im anxious.

EDIT:

Dude

That helped a ****load!

I didnt actually do it, but it gave me ideas.

Ive basically been doing about half of that stuff to make my more recent sigs - The other half of techniques, Ive never thought of doing.

Also, you have a penchant for finding nice stocks.

I never can, where do you get yours?
