Escapist's Haven Spring Tournament 2009 -- Introduction
Escapist's Haven Spring Tournament 2009 -- Introduction
First of all a warm hello to all our members. It's been quite a while since our last tourney, and frankly you're more than right in requesting another one. The next tourney has actually been in the works for some time now, and I have to say that this one will be quite different from the previous tourneys. Now don't get anxious or worried, I'll give you all the information in full detail. The Basics For this tourney we have decided to limit the use of characters to just one per participant, it will be as if your character themselves is entering the tournament. And indeed that is an accurate representation of how it will be. The battles will be structured and the combatants will be aware that this is a tournament setting. Furthermore the actual combat will take place in predefined arenas. Now you might be wondering how that would work exactly. Well... The participants will not be creating their own battle threads. Instead the threads will be opened by specific Councillors who will write out the introduction and give a detailed description of the arena, and act as a referee of sorts during the course of the battle. To do all this the Councillors in charge will use one of their characters in each thread. If you're worried that these limitations would make the battle too constricting, there will be rules to ensure fair play and the interference by Councillor characters will be limited and indirect. Usually. The Rules ( Round One ) And now follows a detailed analysis of the tournament rules.
Enrolling Characters As mentioned earlier, when someone signs up for the tournament they will need to enrol a specific character who will be used for the duration of the tournament. Remember that what is important is using a character that would give a good battle, not necessarily one who will be most likely to win based on strength. As will be discussed next, the battles will be graded by a panel of judges based on roleplaying skill. There will be a special enrolling thread opened where you can sign up and submit your character. Grading Scheme Now as for deciding who moves on to the next round, we have elected to set up a panel of three independent judges from outside the EH, to ensure fair and unbiased judging. The battles will be judged based on the following. Creativity in writing: We want you to get creative, be exciting and adventurous, roleplay to your heart's content. This is battle but it doesn't mean your writing needs to be mundane. Imagine, visualise, improvise -- and above all have fun. Use of environment: The arenas might be predefined but that doesn't mean battles need to be stagnant. We want you to use the environment to your character's advantage, and not be afraid to destroy something while fighting. The arena is yours to explore, make the best of it. Use of character: Each character in the EH has their own set of skills and abilities, which give them a unique fighting style. We want you to push your characters to their limit and use their strengths to their advantage. Action description: Remember that above everything else, this is a battle. Therefore we want to see action and lots movement, not just something bland and boring. Try and make the fighting as hectic and exciting as possible. That's the bulk of the new tournament setup and the rules regarding it. You can use this thread to ask any questions and request clarification. Feel free to step by the enrolment thread in the tournament subforum if you're interested. See you there! http://www.zeldauniverse.net/forums/...ml#post2661485

Yes, pretty much. But a Councillor character will also be present as a referee in each thread, and they'll be able to influence the action.

Re: Escapist's Haven Spring Tournament 2009 -- Introduction
So if each round is only supposed to last 2 weeks, as was the last tourneys rules, does that mean it ends tomorrow? Or are we going until most of them have ended, or something?

Yeah, hoping you would all, ya know, POST! After all, writing 500 word posts isn't that hard. THat's like a ten minute bit of writing, but very few threads had more than three or four posts each person. *Sigh* V_V

Stop making excuses. Even me and Lysis, who only posted once every few days, were able to reach ten posts. (well... nine, technically)
