[Round I] Touch a Match (Set IV)

OoC: I'm starting this casue no one else will.

Set Four, you know who you are.

brokenjoker as Maloe, the princess fairy.

______

The night played it's tune; a melody of bird song, wolf howl, and the affable humming of leaves and grass coming together in blarry sound. Even the shadows falling over the lush earth remained unstirred in their slumber. The night was serene, and appeared as if time had stood still. The moon blared it's light, not a cloud in the sky. The land spread out further than the eye could see, with the casual rocky crumble of once full erected wall, and the rusty remains of a once civilized city. However, tonight, the amplitude of the night swallowed all it's ghosts and uneasy spirits.

The only thing that excited the atmosphere was the bantam movement of a petite organism, no bigger than your average black bird. It glowed, bringing with it a scattered influence of life. What ever it was moved without making much sound, and it gently settled on the old mess of aged metal, adding a bit extra aid to the strength it was using to hold a arm full of fruits and nuts. It had legs, and it crossed them quite nonchalantly, flipping it's long mane of black hair, and setting it's collection of food safely close by.

Maloe, gripping her first delicious succulent peach, sank her choppers into it; her eyes rolling back as her taste buds went ludacris. Her legs eventually dangled, moving in slow circles, absentmind. Maloe enjoyed her fruits, wiping the dripping juice from her chin when needed.

Tonight was a good night for a feast.

A slight breeze threatened to blow back Falenor's hood as he stumbled wearily through the forest with nothing more than a small ball of light to guide him. The massive tree trunks were packed so tightly that it was hard to even force a path through, and the canopy was thick enough to block out almost all the moonlight, though the wind seemed to have no trouble blowing in to annoy him. Despite this Falenor continued to fight his way through the forest, pulling out an old map scribbled hastily on a fraying piece of parchment every now and then. He'd found the map tucked away in an old, forgotten book at the back of the last library he'd visited.

The map seemed to lead to a once-vibrant city that had fallen into disrepair some time ago. Curiosity aroused, Falenor had spent the rest of the week searching the library almost compulsively, but he hadn't found another mention of it. So he pocketed the map and headed off to find the city himself. After a few days of easy trekking he'd found himself in the dense forest. Seeing no trail of any sort, he decided to just push straight through it, a decision he almost immediately regretted.

Around half an hour later and with numerous small cuts all over his arms and legs he finally noticed the trees thinning out. With an obvious look of relief, he stopped and looked up at the moon. It was still dark, but the darkness seemed more friendly than it had been just a little way back, probably because of the moonlight. After a minute of gazing up at the sky Falenor continued his trek.

As he followed the directions on the map, Falenor noticed the trees thinning out more and more. The air smelt much better the further he went, losing the stale, incredibly old smell that had been lingering in the depths of the forest. Falenor was quite glad to be out of there; he'd been getting rather claustrophobic. A few more minutes of walking and he didn't need his little ball of light to see with, the moonlight was enough. Extinguishing it, he continued for a little while and eventually found a path.

The path looked like it had been well-maintained once upon a time, but the crumbling flagstones and creeping mold were indicators of it's current state disrepair. Falenor took this as a sign that he was getting close and set off at a fast walk along it. The path led across a flat, almost featureless grassy field that looked like it had once been used to grow crops. It led up to a river, but the bridge over it had long since given way and fallen in, leaving Falenor to fly over it to the other side. A couple of crumbling, ruined houses dotted the landscape, which despite years of neglect seemed to be in pretty good shape. Falenor considered staying the night in one, but reconsidered when he realized how close he must be to his destination. Wondering why the area had been abandoned in the first place, he walked on and soon spotted what looked like the main city on the horizon.

Almost breaking into a run he made his way speedily down to the ruined city. Once he got there he looked around briefly and saw nothing but slowly collapsing ruins. There seemed to be an old library nearby which had mostly collapsed but probably still had some interesting texts in it. Falenor was about to head in when he noticed a soft glow off in the distance. Dashing off as fast as he could he didn't pay enough attention to where his feet were landing and tripped over a low wall.

Just saving himself with a clever application of kinetic force he got back up and walked at a more leisurely pace towards the glow, which didn't seem to be moving anywhere. Once he got closer he could see that the glow was being emitted by some sort of small creature. Closer inspection revealed that the creature appeared to be some sort of small humanoid with wings. Falenor rubbed his eyes in disbelief as he realized he was looking at a fairy. Keeping a slight telepathic field up he walked over to introduce himself and to get a closer look at her : having never seen a fairy he was incredibly curious.

OoC : I hope I did okay with this...*Crosses fingers*
