Pirates vs. Ninja RP Discussion Thread

This is the official(-ish) discussion thread for the Pirates vs. Ninja Role-Play event. This is not a general discussion thread, please do not let your conversations get side-tracked. If this happens, take it to PM or the OoC.


Now, this thread may be to discuss the following

• Pirates or Ninjas, in general
• Characters in this event or characters being made for this event
• The Roleplay and its details, such as story or setting
• Events that happen or are planned to happen in the roleplay

Rules

• Regular ZU rules apply

• Keep profanity to a minimum. This may be a pirate(/ninja) discussion thread, but there is no reason to talk like one.

• If someone announces an event that they plan to happen in the RP, please don't sabatoge them. That ruins the fun for all of us.

Any ideas? Nothing is off limits.

Simple question: Are Ninja's allow to use magic?

Yes, but I'd like to limit the magic to spells such as temp. invisibility, body mute, and such... I might also be willing to allow some temp on touch combat spells, like ones that stun a person for a select period of time, or one that hurts them a little more, making them weaker(no one touch kills...).

Oh! I am making a Captain and she needs a crew. <.< hmmm Maybe I will make a little banner that my crew can wear with pride. (goes to look at sig shops)

Hmm, why don't we discuss the whole story of this RP: Why the pirates and ninjas are fighting, and why the pirates are helping each other('cause, ya know... They're pirates, they hate everyone!).

I was thinking that all our pirates and crews and such were linked by a huge pirate organization, and the ninjas attacked our head ship or something, and the ones near it(us) came to help... But I realize that, for some characters, it wouldn't work.

Any ideas?

Oh what if there was a pirate king? The ninjas were paid to assassinate him. A lot of pirates don't care or answer to the king, but they were promised plunder if they helped defeat the ninjas?... .. .

That could actually work...
By the way, who's going to be in this? Or maybe all the ninjas would be NPC?

NPC... Hmm. That could make things a lot less hectic/confusing, and then we could have an entire horde of them.

I'd be happy to join your crew, if I manage to get off my lazy bum and get a character going.

You're confused on how pirates work, hombre. All pirates had a form of agreement that basically said "You don't step in on our treasure, we don't kill you."

*big kitten eyes* You will? I believe in you Ringo! You will make a character!

Edit: now what should the banners say? (I am putting together a plea to Sugarpoultry.)
I either want to name the ship Cassandra or Sea Wolf.

Edit: I think I will go with Cassandra which was a real pirate ship in 1719. It was also the same ship type as I have chosen, an East Indiaman.

Well, my character's approved. His name is Leonard L. Scotson, and there's a link to him in my sig.

actually, if I may, I must say that I am opposed to the idea of ninjas using magic. For one thing, historically ninjas have never used magic (obviously). The idea behind the ninja is to be so good at what you do, that it's like magic. Ninjas are supposed to be invisible and seem to be in more than one place at the same time not by supernatural means, but rather extraordinary skill and training. Using magic defeats the purpose of being a ninja in the first place, because if you can use magic to become invisible or be in more than one place at the same time, you don't need skill, training, expertise, or technique.

also, pirates are universally agreed to not have any magic and it would be pretty unfair if the ninjas could have both magic and superior combat training.

Hmm... I didn't think of that...
Of course, this is roleplaying, for fun, and such... And it doesn't look like we have any ninja characters on board, so... We might have to make them all NPCs, and then it would be fun to give them an advantage over the pirates...

I guess we'll have to wait and see who joins.

I still vote NPC Ninjas.

Like I said, they could attack en masse. I can imagine a whole horde of Ninja's coming in over cliff, running over water (just cause), and attacking the Pirates who are all on a beach.

But we still have the problem of why the Pirates are helping eachother. That's just not something Pirates do. =/

Why not have it all be one crew of pirates? It's not like there are going to be more than the crew of a galleon playing in this RP, or I'm not freakin' interested. 20+ participants is about 10 too many for me.

Vana Huine is ninja enough if you need her. She dun know no magics.

EDIT: And as for Ninja plotline, enough people being payed works. She loves her monies.

That wouldn't really work out, especially for our characters in other RPs, after this one.
It doesn't look like even 20 people are interested in it, though, so it shouldn't get too confusing.

Aww I was hoping more people would be interested. I want a crew. Sugarpoultry is even making a banner-sig for the cause. Well maybe it will catch on.

That said I have almost finished my character.

I might just make a different character for this RP, but still make the other one for... fun... or somethign.

*bats eyelashes* If you do would you be interested in being a part of my crew? I could even offer you first mate(with the understanding that captain is in love with him) if you like, or were you planning on something different?
