What I was asking was if it's too much powerplaying to use it on non-psycic characters.

Not if you know they can get out.

If, on the other hand, you know that it would leave them helpless and with no way to get out, I suppose that would be unfair.

My post that needs to be 1,500 words long is currently a little over 500 in its finshed stage. :/

Well, depending on how entertaining the events of a post are, it's not actually all that hard to write such word length. My entry into the ootba yesterday was something like 1200 words, and it wasn't really any effort to be that long. It just...happened.

No. Just because there's no power playing doesn't mean it's fantastic. But yes, it's entertaining from time to time, and I didn't say I looked down on it, but it just lacks the structure of a battle or role play thread.

You never flat out ask for permission to do something, less you're killing them or something drastic like that. You set them up for your action, using the opposing character as little as possible, then when their turn comes around they post their response. There's nothing complicated to it, sonny Jim. How can you properly portray your "ideas" or whatever if the other writer ruins those ideas by screwing with your character?

That's boring and stuifles the writing process. What if you have a Combo in mind, but thanks to no power playing you can't do it because god forbid your oppoent actually gets hit. It shortens the ability to write, and stifles writing at it's core. And as I said before I have a problem with false characterization, I do not have a problem with someone hitting my character without consent, simple eh?

I think someone's getting a little irritable. I'm not trying to argue with you, but you're increasingly sounding spiteful. <.< All I ever said was I disagree with power playing, meaning controlling the other person's character. Length should NEVER be an issue, no matter what you're posting.

You have to be a little crazy to be an author, a good one anyway. If you think of your characters as nothing but words on paper, you'll never know who your characters really are. They'll be lost to yourself, even if you say you know how they work. Do you know their favorite colors? Do you know how many bones they've broken? How is it boring? Explain. I don't mean explain a certain situation where it would be a disadvantage, but explain in general why keeping solely to your own creations when writing your particular post is boring. Sure you can't have the other character walk into something that might benefit your post (whether in victory or defeat, I'm not talking about WIN-HUNGER right now), but if you continued to do crap like that the other person will begin to find your stuff boring. I personally find it, not boring, but frustrating when my character is misused by someone else. I have to go out of my way to find an excuse for a reason why my character acted out of character, if not tell the other writer flat out what they did wrong (which can get messy).

Here, look at these. Here's some examples of power playing and part of why I don't like it. Although these aren't as bad as some I've seen in the past, these are just my most recent experiences. I'm not saying anything bad against the person who posted them, I'm just giving an example. The underlined parts are areas that my character's being used in ways that (this doesn't just apply to what I would have done) I, or someone else, would have done differently. I might have done the same as the other writer in some spots, but that's not the point I'm trying to make.

“What’s the matter, you look grumpy!” Clora’s overly cheery attitude was beginning to grind on the tall man’s nerves, and she could tell. The man turned his head over toward her just slightly, with a look of ice in his eyes. The move which would’ve frightened most had the opposite seeming effect on Clora. “Ooh, you have nice eyes, sir!”

“Leave.” The man had turned to reach for the handle of the door again when another leaf hit him. Clora was standing several feet away grinning as a couple of leaves floated around her hand.

“I just want to know what you’re up to, sir!” Clora still hadn’t lost the happy face, and the dark man was beginning to get… annoyed.

“What I’m up to is none of your business.” He again turned and reached for the door, finding it to be quite stuck shut. He mumbled something about magic and began to pull on the door.

Clora looked on as the door remained stuck shut no matter what the man tried on it. When he pulled it seemed to stick more, and all the gunshot and magic he used on it seemed to just bounce away, more than once almost hitting Clora. “Ooh! Ooh! Let me help!”

“I fail to see-” the man was unable to finish before Clora had bounded over and slightly pushed him aside. With a quick look at the door, the wood and leaves bounding it began to warp until the lock and seal on it had completely detached themselves from the wall.

With a smile on her face, she looked back over at the man, gleefully saying, “See, I can be of help as well!”

The man chortled in a rude, sarcastic manner and opened the door, pushing the elf out of the way in the process. As he descended the staircase leading into the unknown, Clora sniffed and got a grumpy look on her. “Well you’re welcome!”

Especially since I've never RPed with this person before, I wouldn't want them controlling my character's words and actions, not even the slightest (though as Scott said before, the given things like if they were already in the middle of an action or something are an exception). I could have wanted Styx to turn to the girl, maybe harass her some, or possibly something else.

After seeing this post, I told the person that it was ok and said I'd return writing in a similar style. I power play whenever the other person is, simply so there's no unfair advantage or disadvantage in terms of power and communication, so I asked permission first.

I thought it was never about winning? Would it matter if your attack hit? Imagine your character receiving that combo. What if your plan was that they were going to block it, but instead were totally pummeled due to power playing? It's the exact same principal you're talking about.

I see what you're saying. However, the fact that your character could be hit by something they could have easily avoided is considered false characterization to me. They might decide that the attack hit, seeing that their character wouldn't be suited to defend at the time. If they attempted to avoid an attack in a situation they couldn't physically do so, the writer would be considered WIN-HUNGRY (I coined that, despite its massive dosage of SUCK xD) and would lose respect.

However, some things are perfectly fine in controling the other person's character, and I don't consider these things power playing.

For instance: A pat on the back (going to extremes here, as in the extremity of its mundane nature). I'm not going to write, "Styx moved his arm in a slow arc, prepped to pat his partner on the shoulder in a friendly manner."

That would be pathetic. The response would be, "The back pat was successful, only it patted on his shoulder instead due to the location his hand was when blah blah blah."

And Puck, I don't want there to be any tension here if there is. I'm not trying to argue or anything, I'm just expressing my opinion on the matter. I don't know when to quit, ask my mom. I dispute what I believe in to the point that it almost becomes religious, which probably isn't a good thing. Sometimes I just have to drop stuff because, to be honest, I'm not as serious as I might sound, I just really like persuading people, despite the fact I never do. xP

You know.. A little alcohol is not wrong, but rather healthy.
But don't get me wrong. I can drink a glass of wine to a good dinner or at a restaurant, and I take a bottle of beer when it's a late summers evening, and that's not bad at all. Just don't overdo it by partying. One bottle of beer or one glass of wine is just fine.
