Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

OoC: This is my first RP with this character so feel free to offer any critiques you may have. Also, because it is my first RP, I would like to keep it to 2 or 3 people other than me. Thank you!

BiC: This planet was so strange. I had been wandering here, a stranger to this planet, looking for my comrades at arms ever since the crash of our battle cruiser. So far I hadn’t found any trace of my brothers; indeed I had yet to find any sign of civilization on this undeveloped planet.

I wandered for many days, surviving on my rations and whatever beasts I managed to take down. Their meat had the blood color of humans, but it didn’t taste that bad. The land I traveled in was mainly temperate forest, but there were some dry patches scattered here and there. The landscape seemed repetitive to me, I often lost track of where I was. With no familiar landmarks and unfamiliar constellations, I was effectively lost. I spent the bulk of my time looking for a road, or any other path to civilization. It was on my sixth day wandering that I finally noticed something odd.

What is that in over the hill? Is that smoke?
I peered into the glare, trying to discern if it was smoke or merely a cloud. Unable to determine if it was smoke or not, I decided to investigate, this was my first chance at hopefully finding some form of civilization, and hopefully some answers to the whereabouts of my shipmates. I made my way up to the top of the hill and got my first look at the town at the top. I stopped in shock, of all the things I was expecting; this was low on the list. The town I was looking at was, for lack of a better word, medieval. It was a collection of small hay and thatch houses with a large stone castle in the center, all of which was surrounded by a stone wall of about 20 feet.

I made my way down the hill, keeping a wary eye on the town. I wasn’t sure what to expect from whoever inhabited this town; I was almost certain that they had never seen a Sangheili before. Bearing this in mind, I tried to look as nonthreatening as possible as I approached the gate of the wall. There were two human looking guards on either side of the portcullis, all of which were staring open mouthed at me. Getting closer I saw that they resembled humans immensely, but were not quite the same. They had sharper, more angular faces, and pointed ears slightly longer than those of normal humans. Each was grasping a long stick with a pointed metal end, and had what looked to be crude leather armor reinforced with metal rings in some spots

“Greetings humans. My name is Letalis ‘Ferox.” I spoke the human tongue for courtesy’s sake, fearing that they would not know my language. “What manner of creature are you?” a younger looking human to my right spoke. I noticed the guards all tighten their grips on their weapons. Jumpy, even for humans! “I am of the noble Sangheili race. Where am I? What is the name of this Planet?” I made sure to speak clearly, for their sakes.

“What foolery is this lizard man? You are in the Omodria district, and this town is the center of trade here. What is this talk of Plantets?” An older looking guard to my left asked, raising his voice. My face dropped to my palm in response. I was quickly losing patience with these country bumpkins.

Marshaling my patience, I spoke once more, “I will ask only once before I take my leave of you and seek my answers inside the town. What is the name of this Planet?” The guards moved their weapons into a more offensive grip, “I don’t like your tone Lizard man! Now I suggest you leave before we have to make you leave!” I could feel my self control slipping. The urge to crush these puny men, coupled with adrenaline and sheer battle lust was beginning to overwhelm me.

“That would be a serious error in judgment on your part. I suggest you let me pass.” The young guard on the right grabbed his spear and pointed it at my chest. “Not gonna happen, Now get out of our sight before we skewer you.”

"Now now, you can come with me, the people in this town don't do well against their own kind. Come with me, as long as you don't put one of those swords through me." I said, pointing to the disabled swords.

OoC: Hey, thanks for letting me in. Starts out bad, but I' not good with intros.

OoC: No problem, but what character are you using? I need to know so I know how to describe his appearance from Letalis' point of view ^^

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

Using Faite. (not as good with Zebshar yet) does it have to be in first person, or can I use third? I prefer third.

BiC:

Faite had entered the small village looking for some entertainment. The drow he had left earlier that month was quite an odd fellow... first off., he was living on the overworld, instead of the underdark, and second of all... he was a water mage. He needed a fight, so when he saw the village guards being rude to alizard esque man, it pushed him over the edge. "Rude bastards... someone should teach them a lesson."

Faite unsheathed his axe, when a random creature stepped in front of the guards, and appeared to be talking. The odd creature just seemed to disturb the guards even more, as they gripped their spears even harder. The odd creature had the look of a male, about eleven years of age, and had deep green eyes. His hair was covered by a hood, but the small edges were tipped with red.

"Excuse me... what seems to be the problem here?" Faite said, swinging the flat of his axe into his exposed palm it seems the guards enjoy being rude to other races... Well... If you want a fight... Come get one!" Faite said, rushing between the creature and lizard person, and the guards.

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

OoC: You can write from whatever perspective you want, I don't mind either way. =)

BiC: If it was a surprise when the short, hooded person talked to me, then it was a huge surprise when another short person charged at the guards right before my eyes. "Well... If you want a fight... Come get one!" The hooded one jumped hastily out of the way as a heavily armored, stout, bearded person wielding a large axe charged by him. I like his style! Letting go of my inhibitions, I unclipped Zarathas from my belt and activated the deadly blade. Two tendrils of super heated plasma sprouted out of either end of the handle, one red and one blue, and spiraled around eachother for about four feet before joining into a tip.

The dwarf let out a roar and sent a mighty overhand chop at the leftmost guard. The unfortunate guard was still confused by the sudden change of events and didn't manage to react in time, taking the heavy blow to the left shoulder. I heard the intoxicating sound of crunching bone and rending flesh and felt my battlelust rise. Letting out a roar of my own, I charged the guards on the other side, who were just starting to rush to their friend's aid. I swung my wieghtless blade down on a spear in mid thrust, shearing the tip off and setting the wooden shaft ablaze. The owner gave a yelp and dropped the fiery stick. I kicked him in the face, snapping his head back and knocking him out cold.

The other guard pivoted and thrust his spear at my chest. I watched in satisfaction as the metal tip skittered off my energy shield, barely even draining any of the charge. I swung my blade in a diagonal downward slice, from his top right shoulder to his left hip, and cleaved him in twain. I turned to see what was going on with the other two and watched the dwarf finish the other guard with a chop to the center of his chest, cleaving through the leather armor like it was so much paper. The hooded one merely stood off to the side, shaking his head.

"That was incredibly dumb. Now the entire guard is going to be after us!"

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

OoC: Well, I'm glad you think so! You've got a great style yourself!

BiC:

Vagabonds, thieves, murderers! Those were the monsters that stood at the gate to the tranquil city. One was obviously a stout dwarf, the other a child, but…the large creature that had sliced the guard in half…who knew what to make of that?

Despite the danger of the situation, the fact that it was a complete monster standing only a few feet away from the foliage I had hid myself in, I felt the strong urge to attack. Killing innocents like that, innocents that had only been trying to protect their home…it was wrong! I wanted to show those imbeciles a lesson they would not soon forget, burn their flesh into a hideous contortion of nature so they would always remember the ugly mark they had left as the souls of the living departed from this world.

But that was only part of me. That was the demon speaking, the fiery creature that wished to consume everything. The larger part of me, the one devoted entirely to the controlling of the demon, urged me to stay. Alone, I was at a disadvantage against these strangers, and logic deemed that a life for a life was no way to rectify what had happened. If I merely let them pass, it was possible that with their obstacle gone, the strangers would bring no more harm against the city.

But they had just killed. Mercilessly. If I let them pass, the city would be in great danger. If guards were no protection, then what chance would innocent villagers have against these people? My heart burned at the very idea of these strangers unleashing their impatience on innocent villagers, remembering all too well the defenseless people of Bren who had been killed by mindless monsters. I had promised that I would never allow such a thing to happen again! With an anxious heart, I watched as the creatures moved towards the gate, their intent to enter all too clear. It was then that I made my decision.

They would not pass.

“Halt!” I leaped out of the foliage, the hood of my cloak covering my face with shadow. All the better for these people to see my strange eyes glowing in the dark. I kept my body tense, my shoulders held back as I pointed my staff menacingly at them. A deep orange light shone from the orb on its end, heat emanating from it as if it were a tiny sun. With a glare, I caused the light to flash a painfully bright white, another sign of my aggression. “Go any further, and you die!”

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

OoC: Thank you! =)

BiC:Where do these creatures keep coming from? I crouched slightly, getting ready to spring to attack or in defense, should the need arise. I wasn't sure what to make of the newcomer, she was small (compared to me anyway), and rather slight of build. She carried what looked to be a crystal quarterstaff with an oddly glowing tip. Her eyes glowed with an inner light behind the strands of blond hair that escaped from the bun on her head. It was obvious that she wasn't human, although her appearance didn't differ too much.

"What is your quarrel woman? Why do you block my way?" I clipped Zarathas back onto my belt and straightened. "You are foul beasts! Murdering innocents like that. I will not let you harm anyone else. Turn back and I will spare your life." She veritably shook with rage. She doesn't seem like a fighter type, but she does have spirit. I will explain what happened, and if she still wishes to battle, then I will oblige her. "You call us murderers? When was it murder to defend one's life in the face of a threat? I cannot speak for the others, but when someone sticks a spear in my face it tends to bother me. I have no quarrel with the others of this town, I came here seeking information about my comrades; comrades who may be dead." Her visage softened slightly at this, but her posture remained rigid.

"You must be very courageous, and defending innocents is very honorable. I respect your intent. I would not have attacked if these men had not attacked first. I swear on my honor as a Sangheili that I will brook no harm against those that do not deserve it. What say you?"

"Aye. I just saw the guards being rude to someone of a different race, who had done nothing wrong as of yet, I to swear that I wouldn't have attacked first if they hadn't been so eager to start a fight." Faite said, pulling out his sword, and rushing over to both of the guards who were still alive. He quickly found the severd arm, and replaced it, slicing between the wounds. The arm wass now healed, as if the axe had never even hit him. He then closed the wound in the chest of that same guard.

"Maybe you learned a lesson today." Faite said, as the guard sat up, gasping for air. he then ran over to the other guard... but couldn't do anything for him. The wound had already killed the man.

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

“What do I say? What more needs to be said!” My voice quivered with anger, undeterred by the strange creature’s civility. Despite its strange form, it was clear that the thing was no beast, or a creature of mindless destruction. Its limbs were thick and strong, its presence intimidating, but it seemed no worse mannered than any typical human— well, for a murderer, anyways.

So why did it place its sword back on his belt? Why did it pretend that it had any honor after killing like that? It had spoken of its own misfortune, which pained me much more than it should, but that was no excuse. There was no excuse for taking such innocent lives. Ever.

“You say you will bring no harm upon those who do not deserve it? Did those men deserve to die? Would you pacify their families by telling them that they died because they tried to protect their city from you? Such mindless slaughtering belongs only to those with no regard for life!” I kept my voice low and harsh, my anger growing with each word. The light of my staff increased as my rage did, my raw flame seething just below my skin. Not even the kind deeds of the dwarf would stop me now.

The strange creature opened its mouth to speak again, somehow having the audacity to be so calm at such circumstances, but I would not hear it. Instead, I let my flame flare out from my body, channeling the energy into my staff. A large fireball, roughly the size of a small child, came roaring from the crystal orb, rushing angrily at the creature.

EDIT: Sorry, Jealum, didn't see your post X.X I'll include more of Fate in the next one.

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

OoC: I apologize in advance if I gave Leonna the wrong responses Navi, I am still not very used to writing other for other characters.

BiC:This was completely unexpected to me. This girl had managed to create a sizeable fireball from nothing. As a result of my surprise, I was rather slow on the dodge. I took the fireball directly in my right side as I tried unsuccessfully to spin away. The fire was much more than it appeared to be, having roughly the destructive force as a shot of plasma. The fire washed over me, taking about a quarter of my shields with it. Very well, I gave her fair warning. If this is what she wants, so be it.

“Very impressive, whoever you are. I have never met a being who could make such fire from nothing.” She threw another fireball at me, which I managed to sidestep this time. “Your bravery is commendable, but once again I must defend myself. Will it be murder if I cut you down after you attack me? Or would it be murder if you killed me if I don’t defend myself? By witnessing me kill another soldier in battle, you assume you know of me, and how to judge me.” I unclipped my blades, activating both at the same time. I interposed Draith between myself and another incoming fireball, the plasma blade easily blocking the projectile.

Why am I wasting my time on her? She has already attacked me and I am standing here talking at her! My words seemed to only fuel her anger, and her expression showed absolute hatred of me. “Did you not see the way they treated me? When the armored one there attacked them, they responded in kind. I reacted as I felt was necessary in the face of a potential threat. I have a feeling that the treatment I received was merely because of my race, all I ever did was ask to enter and seek information. Did you notice also that the only one I killed was the one that struck me on the chest?” I had her attention now, for the moment. I didn’t know how long it would last, so I had to make the best of it.

“So now you too, will attack me merely because I am different, a stranger in a strange land. You are content to think the worst of me merely because of my appearance, and the fact that I am not among the dead. Would you have considered the guards murderers if they would have struck me down, or would their human nature redeem them? Either way, the point is moot. If it is combat you wish, I will give it to you. However, the armored one and the child will remain apart from it, the armored one has redeemed his actions, and the child had no part in the battle. Come now, I have said my piece. Let our weapons sing of our glory as we fight for honor.” Using both sets of vocal cords, I began humming the Warrior’s Dirge. I could feel the deep bass notes in my chest, filling me with the history of great heroes and glorious battles. I “sang” for those comrades I had lost, for those I would lose, and for my enemy and myself, as was customary at the beginning of a duel. It was my respect for her prodigious bravery that bade me include her in my song.

She seemed stunned, or surprised at the very least, to hear the somber notes coming from one like me. At the very least, she allowed me the honor of finishing the song of our impending battle. “I thank you for allowing me to sing the Warriors Dirge. Now we can begin.” My mind was clear and tranquil as I saluted her and assumed my battle pose.

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

OoC: No, you did a swell job ^^ You'd be surprised how much worse other people can be...

BiC:

It did not make sense. None at all. This strange creature had misunderstood me on a number of levels, as I did not understand him. I did not have the intent to kill him, which of course went against the very actions I was taking. He was correct about me making certain assumptions, but they had not been based on the fact that he was no human. There was a strange energy about him, one separate even from his aura. His aura smelled distinctly of earth and water, but this strange energy that emanated from him…it was by no means natural. This energy had somehow protected him from the spears of the guards, and as I had guessed, my flame was stopped by it as well. I had attacked with fire only because I believed it would scare him off, rather than kill him, but it had done just the opposite. The creature was now intent on fighting me.

“I will not warn you again, Sangheili. It matters not what manner of creature you are— your killing was unjustified. I will not allow the likes of you or your companions to enter this city, regardless of your circumstances!” I gripped my staff harder in my hands, so much so that my knuckles turned white. It was difficult to say whether it was fear or anger that caused my tension, for both emotions were strong within me. This creature was unaffected by my flames, my strongest ability, and he was not alone. He had killed the gaurds who had threatened his life, and I was not familiar with fighting his kind. This creature also had the advantage of size and a powerful weapon, which left few weaknesses to expose. In fact, as far as I could tell, my only advantage in a duel would be my power of flight, which would mean revealing my true nature to these strangers.

Perhaps I should not have worried over it. These were murders, after all. Why should I care what they thought of a flaming demon? What mattered was the only reason I confronted them now: the safety of the human city. If protecting them meant exposing myself, then so be it.

“LEAVE!” This time, instead of throwing a fire ball at the creature, I let off my energy in a different form. As I focused the energy inside of my body, I forced it into my chest, allowing it to burn hotter and hotter until I felt I might burst. Then, throwing my arms out, I sent out a wave of heat that rushed out of my body and into the nearby trees, causing them to quiver with energy. I sent off another burst, and the plants started to convulse, their limbs flailing as they grew at atonishing speed. The brown of the soil almost appeared to boil as the roots of trees writhed beneath it, their brambles threatening to entangle all three of the strangers— my final warning.

OoC: Creative use of power, no?

OoC: tghe problem is... Faite knows that your character desires a fair fight... and also knows that setting the plants on fire would destroy the village, thus making this newest person attack him, and would ruin your chance for a fair fight

OoC: Well...with this new foliage thing, you could find a way for Faite to escape from it, or help even the odds between Leonna and Letalis (now that the battle ground has essentially become alive. He does have an axe).

If you need a suggestion, of course. Faite could always speak his thoughts or encourage Letalis, too.

OoC: I dont think it would destroy the village, it is surrounded by a 20 foot stone wall after all. But that is your call. Also, even though Faite knows that Letalis wants a fair fight, does that mean he would actually care about that?

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

OoC: Thanks for the idea!

BiC: "Let's not make any rash descisions." Faite said, worried that he would soon be being strangled by a tree. "I would hate to have to burn down the area around us which would also probably engulf the village, seeing as how the trees are growing so rapidly."

"Faite jumped to the side as a vine lashed out at him, and continued his little conversation.

"I wish you would just LISTEN!" Faite yelled, bringing out his blade, and cutting down three more vines that seemed to come out of nowhere. Thats when the ground began to shake under him. The ground began boiling up, just as it had done with the other plants.

"Damn." Faite said, realizingwhat was about to happen. He lept to the side, just barely dodging the tree that sprung up from the ground where he had stood just moments before. Faite brought out his axe. "I'm giving you one last chance to call off the plants, else the only one leaving here will be Letalis. And even I have doubts that he could survive an entire forest fire."

Faite carefully dodged the next three vines that came his way. "I see you won't retract your offer soo..."

OoC: Actually.. he would, as he understands that as a warrior, you would want to fight this person single handedly after you tred to get her to understand your reason.

Re: Stranger in a Strang(er) Land [Anyone]

OoC: I figured he understands that, I just wasn't sure if he would really worry about that because of the situation.

BiC:

I was furious. Not only did I get hit in the face by a fast flying branch that this girl somehow had control over, but her influence was also including the others. She won't even fight me honorably! "Damn you and your trickery!" I swung my blades furiously, cutting entire trees down and scorching entire tree trunks. I managed to catch a glimpse of the armored one through a gap in the branches. He touched what appeared to be a medallion on his chest plate before his axe became wreathed in flames. Another one who can make flames from nothing?! What are these people?!

Twisting awkwardly, I managed to avoid a large patch of brambles. I recovered my balance and looked toward the woman, letting the heat of my anger summon my battle lust. I began making my way over the roiling earth and plant life, cutting down any plants that got in my way. I saw the armored one cutting down plants apace with me, spreading flames with every chop. If I didn't get out of the press of plants quickly I would soon be subject to the oven. I picked up my pace, moving under, over, and around limbs, brambles, and whole trees that sprung up around me. Brambles and branches slid over my shield, making it crackle with energy but not actually doing any damage. I peeked to my right, watching the armored one disappear into a rapidly growing inferno. Of the child, I could see nothing. Hopefully he had escaped the flames.

Things were proceeding apace when I encountered a snag. I was almost out of the press of branches when I saw the unconscious guard laying on the ground. Growling with impatience, I deactivated and clipped Zarathas on my belt. Not even bothering to stop, I scooped up the guard and slung him over my right shoulder as while moving by. I noticed my shield was drained to about half power, the extreme heat was becoming dangerous.

Breaking out of the living foliage, I ran up to the woman. She stood dumbstruck, evidently not expecting me to have survived the conflagration. I stopped a few feet in front of her. "Forget something?" I hissed, laying the guard down in front of her feet.
