Kartaikian Syriax walked alone, along an overgrown path deep in a quiet forest. He wasn't headed anywhere in particular, and he wasn't in any sort of rush to get there. Despite the many dead leaves and dry twigs spread about the forest floor, Kartaikian managed to keep his footsteps nearly completely silent; a skill which he learned through much practice. He stopped walking and took a deep breath of the chill forest air, one of his favorite kinds of air, and assessed the various scents that he had detected. Nearby he was sure he could smell some berries; he looked around, and indeed found a large blackberry bush. He picked a few ripe berries and consumed them.
While he was eating his little snack, he took a moment to listen to the many various sounds of the forest. One sound that stood out was the sound of slowly moving water, and he determined the direction it was in. He started walking off in that direction, still keeping his steps muted. As he got nearer to the water, he had an odd feeling, that of an unfamiliar presence. He drew his blade slightly, and concentrated on its dim green glow. He closed his eyes for a look into the world around him. Nearby he saw something; a single sole soul. Interesting, Kartaikian thought. He wondered why they would be out here; but then, why was he? From this distance, he couldn't determine much more about the person, except that they were in the same direction as the water.
He quickly, yet quietly, hastened toward the water. When he got there, he stayed hidden among the trees, crouching behind a huckleberry bush. The water, he noticed, was a lake. However, it was hardly the water that drew his eyes, but rather the strange girl standing near it. The person appeared to be two people, attached back to back. How very unusual, Stormcloud noticed. One of the two figures had the appearance of one possessed by a demon; her skin black and eyes white, with thin black slits for pupils. The other of the two figures was playing with a ball of magically suspended water, novicely trying to form it into something. Suddenly, though, the water snapped out of her hand and right at Kartaikian.
He held up his own hand, and with a whisper stopped the water in midair. He separated it from any contaminants it might have, purifying it, and drank the water.
Well... he thought,
there's two of them...
"I guess it's a good thing I have them outnumbered then," he whispered with a smirk. He stood up and drew his blade, and with a bright explosion of green, he divided himself into three. His gray form strung his bow and remained hidden in the forest, while the black and white forms revealed themselves and approached the figure, swords drawn and ready.
