The Ending and Another Begining (Anyone)

"It's not really of any importance," I said surprised by the question, "I'm just curious. Of course I won't ask again if you don't want to tell me."

BiC: The woman hesitated, seeming to be looking him over calculatingly. After a moment she finally said quietly, "Oh alright. I don't see why not, considering you're not human either," she said dryly. Her eyes fell to the ground, and were almost somber. "In truth, I am many things." she said softly. "I am an immortal, I'm an elemental, and," She rose her hand and swept away her bangs from her face, revealing a small eight-pointed star etched into her forehead. "I am a unicorn."

"Aren't unicorns usually horses with horn," I said laughing, "this universe really is strange to have unicorns who take on human form."

Iyasis rolled her eyes, lowering her hand. "Obviously I can't run around in my released spirit form." she said irritably. "We had to evolve, the way humans did. We evolved with a method of caging our cores inside a suitable body. It took eons to perfect. We just about have, to the point where I can walk around almost human-looking so I and my fellow immortals won't be hunted."

"Almost human looking is somewhat understating the matter," I said shaking my head, "truth be told, you look like a human without all the usual flaws. You're almost like an elf without pointed ears, the way humans wished they could all look. It's quite sad really. It's almost like there nothing left for you to achieve."

Iyasis blinked, a little surprised by his words. "Well, thanks, I think." she said slowly. "But I don't know, we still usually have to go in disguise. Mainly our eyes, sometimes our hair, both in my case, and other little things we still have to do to make ourselves blend. It varies from immortals I guess. Like with my kind we have to wear these blasted rings," she said, waving a hand at her ankle. "Because we can't let people hear the silence of our walking, or see that we don't have footprints. Other races of immortals need other precautions. We're still far from completely human-looking, but I think we're as close as we'll ever get," she said with a shrug.

"I find it hard to believe you don't leave footprints," I said laughing, "its not a matter of being human or not, pressure on the ground leaves prints, its that simple. And as for quietly walking...well its not entirely unnatural, people train to walk silently all the time."

Iyasis shook her head. "Do not try to school me on physics, Azerik, I am not a fool. I know full well the physical impossibility, and even I do not understand how it works. It's just some weird unicorn thing, I don't know," she said dryly, shrugging. "And only a level of silence can be mastered, it is never complete. I have known enough warriors to know."

"I doubt you've known any who have lived as long as I have," I said giving a wry smile, "where I come from, there are people who don't even seem to breathe, because they're so silent."

"Who have lived as long as you?" she repeated, laughing musically. She shook her head, hair sparking. "Well, you think what you like." she mused, looking up at a late afternoon sky. "Where do you have to go now?" she asked.

"Anywhere I feel like going," I said shrugging, "I suppose I'll go visit one of the other dimensions I've been to. I might decide to find a new one."

"What happened to you're here on business?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"To be accurate," I replied, "I said was traveling, and that my occupation requires me to travel. My occupation doesn't really entail 'business'. In any case, my services aren't needed here."

"Services," she repeated. "May I ask what?"

"Well..." I said not quite sure how to put it, "I suppose you could think of it as exorcising demons."

Iyasis raised her eyebrows. "Exorcism, huh? I hear that's an.... interesting line of work," she said with a little amused smile.

"It's probably not what you're thinking," I said smiling wryly and tapping the hilt of my sword, "after all traditional exorcism doesn't require a sword."

Her eyes fell to his sword and flickered softly. "Alumoro..." she murmured under her breath. She smiled softly, looking back up at him. "Well, cool. A fascinating profession. More than once over my lifetime I thought about it myself, but I never could fully bring myself to it."

"You'd never be able to get my job," I said laughing, "immortals need not apply. I'm sad to say the requirements are that you be dead before putting in an application."

"Which is precisely why," she said with a little grin.
