WoD LoZ chronicle
I was wondering if people would be interested in doing a World of Darkness (WoD) game in the Hyrule/Zelda setting. I would be the Storyteller but everyone contributes to the chronicle in their own way.
First start off by filling out the character sheet. http://capturingfantasy.com/wp-conte...sheet_full.jpg If you need help, which i assume most people will, then I will help you. You will then roll 10-sided dice using this dice roller during the game: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm Atmosphere The mood and theme of this RP is one of redemption, vengeance, dark fantasy, barbarism, and corruption, filled with violent criminals, indulgent priests, and guards just looking for a pay-off. It is a Hyrule adorned with the medieval imagery of soaring castles, moss and ivy clinging to every surface, and torches and candles lighting hallways and chambers. Streets and buildings are in gradual decline and disrepair. Gargoyles and other stone sentinels watch over entrances, protecting against sinister forces that are all too real. Combine that with a sense of moral decay and the struggle to survive to create an atmosphere of conflict and livid moodiness. Story Zelda has been murdered by a mysterious dark entity, throwing a once peaceful Hyrule into a downward spiral of disunity. Link has mysteriously vanished; the people cried out for a hero but no one came. The people became physically and spiritually weak, falling prey to the sinister forces of the night. The Sages became corrupt and took dominion over their lands, making each province an isolated, xenophobic demesne. The Lost Woods are a swamp; Kakariko Town is in flames; Hyrule castle's prestine white walls have turned to black. Only a band of heroes dedicated to Hyrule's restoration can murder each Sage and heap their bodies upon the Altar of Time, that the Goddesses may accept the sacrifice and restore the piece of land that each Sage was linked to. It was Ruto's lust for a man clothed in green that led to the downfall of her kingdom. It was Impa's sloth that allowed Zelda to die in first place. Rauru's wrath caused Kakariko to burn. With their heads upon the altar their corresponding lands will be cleansed. When each Sage has been murdered and thier land restored, Hyrule will return to a semblance of its former safe, but without Zelda, it will never be the same... rumor circulates of an Anti-hero of Time that rules all of Hyrule with an iron fist... Soooo.. interested? |

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
Why? what's wrong with a bunch of people rolling up WoD characters and playing a WoD game? It's been done before, trust me. It is humanly possible to play games like WoD and Dungeons and Dragons on a forum.
There's no reason why i shouldn't be able to run my own game on here under my own terms. |

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
Because that's not how things work in this forum. The only character sheet is the one issued by the Council. The format of the RP isn't so much the problem, as is the fact that you're using a different character sheet (vastly more complicated than need be). And really, most people aren't going to go to the trouble of using a die, or bothering with that character sheet.

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
i see.. so if i had people use this forum's character sheet and i handled all matters of determining the success of character actions, then i could run this game?
for instance, the player says, 'i attack the troll.' i then roll my own dice and say, 'your sword slices through the creature's knobby hide.' i roll the damage for the character's weapon and tell him he does X damage. |

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
I should think this is fine as long as everyone who joins this RP can agree to that style of RPing.

NUmbers are pretty scary, eh? Alrighty, so I'll change it to where there are no numbers, and anyone who is interested in playing can post their character here or send me a link to it.
But as an added feature to the characters a player will have to choose a Virtue and a Vice, since morality is a major theme in this RP. The virtues are hope, temperance, fortitude, charity, faith, etc.; vices are greed, gluttony, wrath, lust, etc. |

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
Hmm, I might actually be interested in roleplaying here, if you'd be willing to go ahead with it.

Yeah, it does actually interest me. In particular, I like the idea of a character's vices coming into play. Oh and thanks for replying. I wasn't sure if you'd given up on this RP or not.

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
I think it does too. Maybe this game would give her some character development too, like she becomes better with a sword after going on several adventures. There are dangerous creatures out there she she might have to destroy.
As for Strengths and Skills she could possibly learn magic or better weaponry skills.. with her ultimate goal being to escape Hyrule to get to the land of Merkua.. but what's a Pansexual? |

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
Pansexual means she's attracted to people without taking gender into account.
Unfortunately, magic is one of those things she is incapabable of using. I probably should put that in there, but I want to hold off since it hasn't actually been brought up in her story yet. Oh, and just so you know, she doesn't actually exist in Hyrule. I'll just tweak her so it works.

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
Ok.. all you have to do now is choose one Virtue and one Vice for your character. When you role-play either of these you will gain some sort of in-game reward, like some more gold or a magic item. If we were doing an Experience POints system you would gain more Exp.
RP-ing a virtue is usually more difficult so the reward will be greater. Virtues: Justice, Temperance, Charity, Prudence, Hope, Faith, Fortitude Vices: Lust, Gluttony, Wrath, Pride, Sloth, Greed, Envy Also in the game there are things you can do and places to go such as: The Farmhouse: Receive quests and quest rewards here. Merchant: Buy and sell equipment here Alchemist: Buy and sell potions here Stables: Buy and sell mounts here. Work: Instead of doing adventures you can just do manual labour or guard duty for a number of hours and receive gold. Duel: You can fight a randomly generated character for gold and fame. SOmetimes such a character will attack you at random as well. The higher your fame the better disposition NPCs will have toward you. Guild: For 1,000 gold you can found a guild, which can then be upgraded to say, a guard tower, then a fort, a small bailey castle, and so on. You can ask NPCs or PCs to join the guild to increase your fame, and even attack other guilds in a Guild War. Dungeon: A 100-level dungeon was discovered recently beneath the farmhouse. You may attempt the dungeon to fight a monster and gain gold and/or magic items. So with this game there are lots of RP opportunites available that other RPs on here don't have ![]() |

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
Uh, okay, two things:
1. Does this RP have a story at all? It sounds like all there is to do is generic combat and stuff. 2. This feels way too structured. I can understand having some of the stuff up there, but it seems like you have everything too planned out. I can't imagine that would make for a very fun RP.

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
There is indeed a story, that was described in my very first post. The main goal of the game is to slay all the corrupt sages and restore Hyrule to its former glory, and confront whatever evil caused Hyrule's downward spiral in the first place.
Another aspect of the game is the accumulation of power, which RPs have in common: finding better armor, stronger weapons, stronger spells, more gold and riches. The game can be fun with structure, which is why I originally had a WoD character sheet to fill out. If you didn't know about WoD I would teach you the rules. In the game you meet and interact with NPCs when you go on Adventures, and use your character's abilities. Let's say one of the adventures is to obtain a precious diamond: There is an Alchemist in Hyrule Castle town who has the diamond, but it's under guard. You could attempt to steal the diamond and risk fighting a higher-level guard and be killed or thrown in jail, or you could explore the shop and find a locked chest that contains not one, but three diamonds, and your employer only requires one. You would then roll dice on the Wizards of the Coast dice-roller I included to determine random chance, and you would use the Thievery ability to pick locks and Stealth to sneak around undetected. And there's plenty of other things you can do in game too: climb walls, lift a portcullis, leap over a chasm, swim across a river, swindle a merchant; anything you can imagine! These things are not only fun, but they can be thrilling. But there is always a margin of failure for whatever you would do, which is why there needs to be a system (rolling dice) to determine success or failure. Understand? And I, as the Storyteller, then dictates what happens to your character when you attempt these things. You are the only player in this game at the moment. While I do "play" the game as well, I only control the NPCs and monsters. So what's so hard about rolling dice? It only takes like 5-10 seconds. You then post what you rolled. And the time it took someone to make a character on here, then do "training" posts to get qualified to post in RPs on here, a person could just learn a new RP system that is lots of fun with random chance involved. What I don't understand is how people have powers and abilities on here and if they ever use them, how much damage do they do, and if the spell or ability causes Sleep, for instance, what is the chance that the victim resists or succumbs to the spell? How do you determine when you fight someone if your sword swing hits or misses? Structure is needed for things like this. And I do have most things planned out because I wrote this campaign, but as a GM (Gamemaster) improvisation is often necessary. I'd say this game is 60% written and 40% improv. Bottom line: I do not "railroad" you into doing anything. You tell me what you want your character to do and I will tell you if you succeed or fail, using dice to determine this. |

Re: WoD LoZ chronicle
I have to apologize, but a dice based RP isn't something I was really interested in doing. I kind of asked about this because you said before that you wouldn't be using dice. But besides that, the structure of it still feels to rigid, like some generic level-grinding thing and not a fun, story driven RP.
