Help...

I think I'm gonna go play some more Just Cause 2, to get it out of my system.

I don't think I think a lot on alignment before or during the process of making a character. Probably after I'll take a guess as to what he or she is x3 but I don't think about it. I just think like... okay, I want to make this character "good" or "evil" and just kinda let the personality form with what I'm comfortable with, and develop.

If.. that makes sense.

That pretty much sums it up for me. I'll get the notion that I want a 'bad' 'good' 'evil' or 'insane' etc character before I really do anything else. That is not to say that their alignment defines them as a character; it just serves as a stepping stone for me to work from.

I start from powers/abilities and work out alignment from there. Tatek is what he is because I had to figure out what kind of culture would develop from a hereditary ability to destroy something so integral to many people's lives. A singular person with Tatek's abilities could have been anything, but an entire culture narrowed things down considerably. Generally speaking, entire cultures don't become anything which could be considered "evil", after all, but their ability lends itself to such alignments quite well. The result was Tatek.

The beginnings of making my characters rarely start with alignment. Most of my characters started as doodles in a sketchbook or two, then as I draw them again I sort of begin forming a backstory and personality for them, then their alignment comes after that. Their strengths, abilities, and powers are probably the last thing I work on, mostly because that section holds the least amount of interest for me... unless of course the character is a power fantasy character, or the basis of their original drawing plays off of some sort of special skill or ability they have.

Of course... not all my characters start as drawings. Alien (sorta) started off as a nightmare I had. This strange, white, balding guy with braces could shapeshift into snakes and ropes and stuff (which Alien can't do), but I was running from him. I found a ventilation shaft to escape from him, but as I'm crawling blood drips on me. I look up to see that the vent rises vertically for several yards, and from the top a man was hanging by the throat. The rope then comes alive and transforms into the creepy pale man with braces who immediately jumps at me, waking me up. I almost immediately sketched him down on paper. A while later, he changed a bit and I tied him into Tree Shade's story, and I also loosely based him off of the "Noseless Alien" which was an in-joke with one of my sisters... only that Alien wasn't nearly as twisted.

Habit was actually an assortment of random ideas I had. He was originally going to be a whole lot more evil than he is now. He was going to be this sinister drug dealer of sorts who would get people hooked on his drug and practically own them because of it. That changed and became a far less prominent element to his character, though he does still sell this drug. I think it wasn't until after I drew the picture that's in his profile now that I decided I wanted him to be a far more friendly person. x3

I do that all the time. I go to one, but I keep on tab-creating (?) more as I read through them. TV tropes is addicting to read ;__;


Anyways, I was so shocked to see that I was nominated. Three times. Unfortunately, however, (I say that way too much) one of my nominations was not so positive.

Most Like Their Character: Self-insert alert! Don't worry, it isn't always a bad thing. It could have happened quite on accident. All our characters have a little of us in them, or they wouldn't be our characters. This member may just have this character that possesses the most of their qualities to such a degree they are noticeably similar. This could be done in a Mary Su/Gary Stu way or perhaps tasteful with humility. Either way, be sure to include the member's name and the name of which character they most resemble when nominating them for this award.

Chronia is emotionless and cold (though I don't always write her as cold. I'm a bad writer, so I guess that makes sense ^__^), so I got kind of offended to see that.

That happens to me all the time, I have read so many tropes omg halp. x__x

Tvtropes is how I tend to find new series to watch/read. I look at tropes in shows I like and look at other shows with those tropes.

I visit TV tropes after watching a movie/series or beating a game.

I do that too, Saney. And with books I finish.

Yeah, I've never been a big fan of that award. It definitely seems like one we could do without.

Anyways, I've decided to fix up my first two characters a while ago, and I'm now done with the first one. Now all that's left is the second one, whose main problem is the fact that I can't think of a history and matching personality for her (I already fixed up her powers and stuff).

Help?

Could go with the usual 'Spurned by the gods' route after they train her, run from there.

Well, all I know so far is that she's a daughter of Zeus (demigoddess) in a modern world

Ok...Have you considered having her come into conflict with other pantheons of gods? Like just have her piss off the Shinto, the Norse, the Native American spirits, and have the Greek gods pissed at her ineptitude and her redeem herself somehow. Throwin the darts anywhere on the board for now.
