The land of Khasut was founded long ago, and during that time the people lived only on the great Nile river, for the rest of the land was nothing but a harsh desert. It was risky enough to live by the river, let alone try to travel through the deserts. There were only a handful of settled areas along the river, with a few small, insignificant villages scattered up and down it. From the mouth of the delta the kingdom was ruled by the city known as Cairo. With the exception of the occasional person challenging the Pharaoh, the land knew only peace and prosperity.

However, that all changed a hundred years ago. While digging in some mines the miners came across an unbelievable sight. They found massive shafts, perfectly circular in shape, going straight down into the earth. From these shafts there came a glowing blue light. It grew and grew in intensity until it actually became a solid. It then pushed up and caused the Earth above it to crumble and collapse. This caused a massive hole roughly three hundred feet in diameter to appear above on the surface.

It didn't stop there. Reports started coming from all across the kingdom telling of these giant holes that seemingly came from nowhere. The Pharaoh was uncertain as to what this meant, but nevertheless he had the most brilliant minds in the kingdom conducting studies and experiments.

Weeks went by and they made little progress. However, very strange reports came from distant travelers. When the Pharaoh sent out search parties to investigate, they returned with interesting news: oases had sprouted up in the desert, seemingly from nowhere. As time went on, they gradually expanded and expanded. These were not simple oases with a dozen trees scattered about, they had large lakes and vegetation that started to grow. Perhaps the most famous of these was a lake to the east. It grew into a massive freshwater lake.

Things got odder still. There were sightings of small creatures like fairies and gremlins found wandering the desert and in the villages at night. As the months went by, people began to realize that they had magical powers. Each person was able to perform one feat of magic. Upon coming to this realization, the Pharaoh declared that it was a blessing from the Gods themselves. From that moment on, the denizens of Khasut and the children born there all had one, unique ability. Some of them were lackluster, while others were grand and powerful. Some showed powers eerily similar to what powers the Gods were believed to have, and thus these people were revered as an avatar of that particular God.

Ultimately, the people came to the conclusion that discovering the shaft had unleashed magic onto the world. Ever since then, social class put less focus on family and wealth and more focus onto how powerful and how practical your particular talent was.

Magic/talents

No creatures other than things like fairies, imps, gremlins, gnomes, etc., have been sighted, and even so they're typically only near these giant shafts going into the Earth.

Every talent is unique, however, talents can be identical. If one person has the talent of making metal hot enough to boil, another person wouldn't have the same exact power. Someone could have the power to make metal hot enough to completely evaporate it, however. So you see, talents can be pretty similar, but never perfectly identical.

Yellow is desert, purple are villages/towns of considerable note (at least 600 people, blue is water, light green is fertile land with vegetation and water and whatnot.

Cairo is at the mouth of the delta. However, it is no longer the capitol, merely the second largest city. The largest is Thebes, shown in red by the river in the northeast.

In the southwest in light pink is our home village of Girga, situated on one of the oases that appeared a hundred years ago.

Each oases would have 1-5 shafts, depending on how big it is. The most of these are found around the lake in the northeast. There are a few scattered near the Nile itself.

Technology level is roughly Ancient Egypt, aka, nothing too fancy. Every character will be from the village unless you give me a good concept that fits into the story, which involves a child being kidnapped and brought to Thebes.

Send me either a PM or a VM once you have a completed character profile. All questions can be asked here and they shall be answered. Before the questioning begins, however, I imagine the biggest question on everyone's mind is in regards to your talents.

The more powerful and viable talents are rare. There aren't 5,000 people running around with Gandalf-levels of super powers. Most people have talents that aren't nearly that powerful, or talents that are seemingly useless (i.e. being able to change someone's hair color at will). So bear that in mind before you start thinking of a character concept. I myself am thinking of giving my character the talent of snapping her fingers and causing a throwing dagger to appear in their hand.

If the kingdom has like 500,000 people, maybe only 500 or so would have really awesome ♥♥♥♥ like intensifying sunlight enough to be able to call down a fiery rain storm.

Age: 18
Gender: Male

Appearance: Bes is a fit young man, who like the rest of his country men, has light brown skin and brown eyes. He has dark brown hair with is very short; it is only an inch and a half and it sticks out in all directions.

Bes wears a white linen skirt pants with no shirt. He wears a blue turquoise weave around his neck. On each upper arm, he has iron arm bracers. He wears a pair of brown sandals, but he can be often found without them on as well.

Talent: Gliding; high jumps

Knowledge, Skills, Strengths: Bes is strong due to his line of work. He can get to high places which are hard to reach due to his powers.

Weaknesses: Bes is uneducated and isn't the smartest guy in the box. While he does know how to use tools which he has worked with, he has hardly any training on how to use them to fight.

Personality: Bes is an easy going guy who enjoys a good practical joke. He is incredibly reliable and even though it takes him a bit to get things done, you know they will be done right.

Bes always looks for the best in any situation, and if he can't find it, well, you know you are pretty much royally screwed over.

History: Bes is a farmer and laborer. He works in the fields, or on whatever project the pharaoh has in need of completion. He is third child in his family out of seven, and the first to survive past the age of 10.[

Age: 16
Gender: Female

Appearance: Tabia has light brown skin, brown eyes, and long brown hair. Her body structure is slender and her height is that of an average girl her age.

Talent: Bringing her drawings to life (it must be at least somewhat well drawn and be clear on what it is)

Knowledge, Skills, Strengths: Tabia is a very artistic and creative girl. She is talented in the visual arts and is intelligent.

Weaknesses: Her physical strength is lacking. She's an average girl when it comes to physical conditions, meaning that she can't fight and relies on her resourcefulness to defend herself.

Personality: Tabia is a very sweet girl who loves living things. She enjoys being with others and is very kind, generous, modest, and selfless, and will stand up for anyone [who deserves to be stood up for]. Along with these great qualities, she is also very cheerful and can illuminate darker times with her positive attitude.

History: Tabia has five siblings, three of which are girls. She spends most of her time on her studies and art, which is what makes her well known in the village.

Though I would like you to clarify it a bit. Does the material she draws on matter? The ink?

As long as you can easily tell what it is if you know what it's supposed to be, it works. Vague drawings also don't work (if she wants a boulder but draws a circle instead, then nothing will appear).

She can draw something using a stick as a pencil and the ground as a canvas, as long as you can tell what it is.

Dunno if anyone else will be joining us. If not it will just be us three to begin.

I'm interested in joining, but I'll be away till Sunday, July 15. Therefore, I'll hold my character till then.

Name: Masika

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance: She has brown hair cut to her shoulders that shows signs of blonde-bleaching due to the intense sunlight. She has no distinct facial features. Masika stands at five foot five, and wears a simple beige cowl with a hood and covers her mouth and nose with a black veil.

Talent: When she snaps her fingers, a throwing dagger appears in her hand.

Knowledge, Skills, Strengths: She is trained in subterfuge and knows the basics of human anatomy. She's quick, sneaky, and can easily blend in with a crowd. Masika is very accurate with her throwing knives, having practiced since she was a toddler. She is adept at street smarts, and battle tactics.

Weaknesses: She isn't a fighter; her strength is in guerrilla tactics and catching her enemies off guard. Going toe-to-toe with someone is sure to end in her defeat.

Personality: Masika is a reserved person who prefers to keep to herself. She enjoys the occasional joke, but she's been raised to always keep her eyes and ears open and to always be aware of what is around you. Thus she does not like mediocre distractions.

History: Since her talent was really only useful for fighting, she has been raised to be one of the defenders of the village in case of an attack by bandits. Once she was old enough, she helped the older members understand anatomy so that they could better subdue their enemies. She also taught them how to be quieter when patrolling and how to not leave tracks and such.

And Tabia's drawing abilities could work well with Thabit's metal transmutation, since she can make a bunch of metal and he can turn it into a bunch of weapons. Together, they could make a whole weaponry (Tabia can't do it herself since she knows pretty much nothing about weapons, and would end up making something pretty but is probably not even effective)!

Bes can drop rocks on people. Dropping rocks on people is fun. And simple.

Tabia's more of a support character. She can supply skilled people with necessary items, but she can't really use them for herself
