Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

"My name is Anthony Belmont, but you can call me Indie if you so desire; Kandice certainly does." He glanced down at Kandice to see her lost in her own little world with a stupid grin on her face. He wasn't sure what the hell was going through her mind, but as long as she kept it there, there shouldn't be any problems. "I'm the owner of The Splash; its a small bar in the entertainment district of the city. Feel free to stop in sometime if it should please you to do so."

"Well we don't drink, obviously," Gladys said, "but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to drop in for a visit sometime." Gladys started tapping her foot impatiently. "I can't help but wonder why it is we've all been called together on such short notice. I suppose we'll find out soon enough though."

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

"Indeed. By the looks of that grandfather clock in the corner, it's almost 10. Perhaps we shall take seats together when we are summoned?" Vance noticed a Brujah entering the room and... was he wearing a leather jacket? This is not the 80's and this is most certainly not the occasion to be wearing such drab. Vance shook his head in discontent.

"Whatever," Gladys said, dismissively replying to Lexington's suggestion. To be honest she didn't really care where she sat, she just wanted to get it all over with so she could go back home. She wouldn't say that the Camarilla didn't serve some useful functions, but she certainly didn't appreciate it butting into her life.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

"I think that shall be lovely," Anthony said with a smile, always glad at the chance to establish more connections. He checked Kandice again who was thankfully still keeping quiet. He was silently relieved that she had for the most part managed to keep out of trouble thus far. He just needed to get through the prince's speech without her acting up, and he was home free.

Starting an argument among a bunch of vampires was not a good thing. Even though it could a be a drastic reaction, he didn't want a Blood Hunt be called on Kandice. Especially when he was responsible for her. He supposed he should let her be free by now; she understood the laws of the vampire society, but he grew to view her as his own daughter. He needed to be sure she wasn't going to go up and do something stupid.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

No matter where in the estate grounds you are, word reaches your ear. Whether you were in the ballroom when the Tremere Primogen announced that the Prince has summoned you, or sitting out back in the garden, a kindred brings this fact to your attention. The music slows to a halt and chatter diminishes. The whispering conversations change topic from whatever it may have been before to predictions of what the Prince was going to address. A few listened to Malkavians predicting what it would entail, but each seemed to have a different story. Various rumors traveled between the kindred. Which were true and which were false was anybody's guess.

On the far side from where you enter is the stage. Currently there was nobody on it, but presumably the Prince would take it soon enough. This theater was no different than other theaters in that the walls and room were built to allow sound to travel from the stage to the audience. There were three aisles of even proportion, making four sections that were longer length-wise. In the back where you entered there were no seats which left room for you to stand for the meeting if you wished. However it was clear that there were plenty of seats and that you could easily find a seat in which no one would be sitting next to you.

The Primogen was giving instructions to either find a seat or clear out of the doorway.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

"It's time," Wilder said, looking at his silver pocketwatch.

Gladys looked up at him. "Is it?" Sure enough, as soon as she had asked, the Primogen who had greeted them in the foyer entered the ballroom and announced that the Prince was ready to start the meeting. "Why, so it is, so it is."

Not caring whether or not anyone besides Wilder followed her, Gladys led the way into the theater, amidst the crowd of other kindred, and found a place near the back of the room to sit. Certainly anywhere would be close enough to hear the speech but back here she could talk with Leon and Wilder, and perhaps the other kindred she'd met if they sat near her, without causing distraction.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

The Primogen entered the ballroom and announced that the Prince was ready to begin. Vance followed Gladys into the theater but she seemed content to sit in the back. He couldn't fathom why. From back here she wouldn't be close enough to make out the finer details of the Prince's garb and whatever subtle mannerisms he might display. Nevertheless he could find her again if he chose to.

Vance chose to sit a few rows away from the front, all the way in the corner. From here he could keep an eye on the stage and around him for anyone interesting seated in the theater. He took a seat and patiently awaited for the Prince to begin.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

Anthony steered Kandice into the room, noticing Gladys and a man who he remembered her introducing as her childe (Wilder was his name right?) sitting towards the back. He sat down next to Gladys, giving her a small smile. Kandice sat next to him. Her scowl was back, and she slouched in her seat, her body language pretty much screaming I DON'T WANT TO BE HERE.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

Within ten minutes all the kindred invited had entered the theater. The doors were closed and a figure walked out from behind a curtain. Everyone recognized it as the prince. Depending on how close you were sitting, you would be able to make out his details. He wore a black robe with silver lining. His pale face was obscured in a robe, but his straight white hair reached out and laid on his chest. The prince's middle-aged appearance was complete with a light goatee and a pair of blue eyes that gazed out into his audience.

"Good evening, kindred." His deep, rich voice permeated through the theater. I am pleased to see that you are all here. I trust that my hospitality was satisfactory?" He paused for nods and murmurs of approval.

"Allow me to put forth a question, kindred: what is the first and most important of our traditions?" Again he paused as the crowd responded with The Masquerade.

"The Masquerade," he repeated. "The Masquerade is the very foundation of The Camarilla. It is the backbone of our society. Without a base, you cannot have a pyramid; it would sink. Without columns a building would fall. Without The Masquerade, we would perish."

The Prince slowly paced back and forth on stage. "Breaching The Masquerade is not tolerated. Its effects are not felt by you and you alone. The effects are not only felt by your fellow clansmen, or only by the city you reside in. It affects each and every kindred on this planet. Every kindred, Camarilla or otherwise, is better off without the mortals being aware of our existence. They outnumber us and have many advantages on their side, including advanced technology, communication, and of course, the dreaded sun."

Magnus made a motion to someone off stage, and led by a Nosferatu was a kindred bound by his feet and wrists. The Nosferatu dropped the bounded one onto his knees beside the prince and held him there by his shoulders. "I do not tolerate betrayal to the Camarilla in my city. This one that you see before you had the audacity to commit treason. This traitor has endangered all of us. For months he has fed sensitive information about us and our operations to The Sabbat. As a result of his espionage the existence of vampires was made known to a mortal cult estimated to have about fifty members. I had to act quickly and discreetly to ensure that each of them would remain silent. Furthermore, I had to cover up the unfortunate manslaughter that ensued, and myself and the Council had to create an elaborate excuse for the phenomenon."

"While those fifty will not be a threat to the Camarilla, I cannot say that there is zero possibility that others were told before we could rectify the situation. I have done what I can to restore the first tradition in Seattle, but I advise you all to exercise extra caution from here on out."

The Prince stopped and pointed out to the crowd. Immediately there was the sound of a scuffle and a weak scream came from somewhere in the theater. There were three men and a woman being escorted to the stage by two captors each. They were bound just as the man on stage and brought onto it. The Prince ordered them to be lined up across the stage, and his orders were carried out.

"In addition to ignorantly revealing our existence, I mentioned betrayal. He was in contact with Clan Lasombra, and these four who were just brought here were the informants he was corresponding with. It is these four who met privately with our turncoat on multiple occasions and then reported their findings to the rest of their clan. These crimes will not go unpunished."

From beneath his robe the prince produced a decorative longsword, encrusted with jewels in the hilt and given a fine polish on the blade. "The first tradition?" He asked.

"Masquerade," replied the crowd.

He raised the blade above the woman's head. "The second tradition."

"Domain," and she was beheaded. He went to the next.

"The third tradition?"

"Progeny," and he was beheaded. He went to the next.

"The fourth tradition?"

"Accounting," and he was beheaded.

"The fifth tradition?"

"Hospitality," and he was beheaded. The Prince went to the last man.

"And the sixth tradition... Destruction," and the Prince cleaved the man's head from his torso. He handed the sword to the Nosferatu and the dead bodies were swiftly taken away and the blood cleaned.

"Destruction is the sixth tradition, kindred, and the one most prominent as of this moment. You see, he did not work alone... as I suspected, she saw through this trap and did not attend tonight. I am calling for a Blood Hunt against Kayla Cracik of Clan Brujah. She still lives and I suspect may be in the protection of the Sabbat. She is to be killed and I am to be informed immediately of it. She was embraced in her teenage years and appears as such. The last anyone was aware, she had short black hair and dressed typically for a Brujah. She is of the eighth generation, so she is not a mere fledgling. It would be best that you work with at least a few of your fellow kindred to hunt for her, both to ensure her death and of any Sabbat who may be guarding her. All in the group that bring her to me will be rewarded equally, so do not fear that you'll be given a smaller award for working together. We must protect The Masquerade."

"There will be another meeting in about a month, when the moon is renewed. Like always, you will be informed of it via letter. With that, you are free to go back to socializing, or you may leave. Just remember that this is an Elysium."

___________

feel free to incorporate the speech as much as you'd like into your next post. Just so long as all of the above happens, you can chat and yell the traditions or whatever your character would do.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

Gladys listened to the Prince's speech halfheartedly, staying silent while the rest of the kindred chanted the Camarilla's traditions. Wilder unenergetically droned on with the rest of them, mostly because everybody else was and he felt he was expected to as well. He couldn't handle that kind of pressure. Leon, however, seemed quite into it. Wilder couldn't hear him, of course, but Gladys assured him later that he had been shouting loudest of all. He enjoyed a spectacle.

Gladys watched as the Prince slaughtered the traitorous kindred. Enacting just punishment on deserving vampires. As she had considered earlier, the Camarilla did serve some useful functions. Then the Prince finally announced why he had gathered everybody here. He was initiating a blood hunt on one Kayla Cracik, Brujah.

"Oh, great, a blood hunt," Gladys said. "I don't even remember the last time the Prince called a blood hunt." She looked down at King Clarence, who was sitting in her lap. "You do? No, I'm sure you're correct. Sounds about right to me. Yes."

The Prince briefly went over the details of the hunt, declared that another meeting would be held in a month's time, and then released the audience to go back to socializing or return to their homes. Gladys quickly got up from her seat, muttering to Leon. Wilder only caught part of whatever she was saying. "...waste of my night, I say." She then looked up at Wilder. "Let's go home, James." He wasn't going to argue with that. The other kindred put him on edge.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

Anthony chanted along with the traditions along the rest of the vampires. Kandice remained quiet, however, much to his distress. While he knew she wouldn't betray the Camarilla to the Sabbat, nor would she go and blatant tell humans she was a vampire, she wasn't that stupid thankfully, she had a few close calls out of lack of vigilance. Anthony had taken care of them and covered the trail rather skillfully thanks to his connections, but unless Kandice shaped up soon...

Well he didn't want to think of it.

When the prince announced the blood hunt of the Brujah Kayla Cracik, Anthony's blood ran cold. He couldn't remember the last time there was a blood hunt, but he didn't like the idea of hunting another. They are trying not to be murderous psychopaths, and even though this will be protecting the Masquerade, this wasn't helping any.

But the Prince willed it, he would have to obey or be considered a traitor himself.

As the speech ended he watched Gladys and Wilder leave, talking amongst themselves. He stood up and looked at Kandice with a small frown. He could totally see her not taking part of the Blood Hunt just to "stick it to the man" or whatever.

He quickly lead her out; he didn't want to be stuck in any discussion about the Blood Hunt and have Kandice tell the other vampires what exactly she thought of it. She wasn't sure what that was, but he knew it wouldn't be good.

They had driven to the Prince's mansion, and as Kandice got into the passenger seat of his silver Honda Civic, he turned to her.

"Kandice, you do realize the severity of this all, right?" He asked in grim seriousness.

"Of course," Kandice said with a snort. "I am no fool. Still, if you think I'm going to participate in this little man hunt you got another thing coming. I'm playing your little Masquerade game even though I never asked for this stupid life. I mean you all go off on your self important thing of not to reveal yourself to humanity, but you go off making humans into vampires! What right do you have! Why did you even turn me?"

Anthony sighed. She was still upset about being embraced? He never threw this much of a hissy fit when he got turned. He accepted it, why couldn't Kandice?

"We've been over this," he said, starting the engine of the car and rolling out of the driveway. He didn't want wandering ears to hear this conversation. "You had an amazing potential. You shouldn't waste something like that."

"I was happy right where I was! I had a good life with good friends! Then you came along, and without even asking me turned me into a vampire. All because I was a clairvoyant! Then you demand I follow all these ❤❤❤❤ing vampire rules for a ❤❤❤❤ing life I never asked for and expect me to lie down like a dog and play this political game? Let me tell you right now that ❤❤❤❤ ain't gonna happen. I have all these ❤❤❤❤ing problems I would have never had if I was human. I would rather have died a natural death then being murdered like those poor bastards were up there.

Now, I said I wouldn't reveal vampires to humans. This doesn't mean I've agreed to play the rest of your ❤❤❤❤ty game."

Anthony sighed, but let the subject drop. He had learned long ago it was simply best not to argue with the girl. That, and each time she brought up her points, he became a little more unsure of himself and the more he began to see where she was coming from.

And that terrified him.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

After being led to the theater, Morris had sat down not far from Vance and the others. The stage was quite grand with ornate decor all around it. I'm not going to like this, am I? He thought. He saw how the others seemed to be all rapt attention. The little girl and her childe watching and waiting, Indy and his childe watching, looking rather fearful. Vance looked proud as always but Morris could tell he was uneasy as to what the announcement could be. Morris himself shifted in his seat a bit.

After hearing the Prince's speech, Morris watched with rapt horror as the Lasombra lot had been mercilessly slaughtered. Hardly anyone present had made a sound.
"Hahahahahhahahahaha! Look at that! At least someone around here has some balls, eh Reggie? That lot probably were found bedding Fiends or worse! JUSTICE!"
Morris clenched his teeth. He would not respond to that nasty voice, especially now. But he couldn't help feel that the voice had a point this time.

The Prince had then announced a blood hunt on a traitorous Brujah by the name of Kayla Cracik. Morris had no idea who this vampire was, but he merely noted the name. Harold recorded nothing about a Brujah...What does this even mean? He glanced at the others. They were either confused or excited or afraid, it was hard to tell. The Prince had exited the stage and that certainly meant it was time to go. He had bid his new contacts farewell in a rather rushed manner. Knowing he probably offended one or two, but that was hardly here nor there at the moment. Morris hated the Sabbat. Something stirred in the back of his mind but he couldn't place it. All he knew was the Black Hand had reasons for being loathed.

Morris removed his mask as soon as he walked out of the mansion. I have to let Harold know all of this. And to arrange to keep him safe. The Ghoul was not exactly the best at combat of any sort. He was a more genteel man, not enjoying conflict, especially with those who are far more powerful.

The blue and black taxi was there waiting. Most curious... Morris thought.
"Ahh I thought you needed a lift." The odd cabbie said.
"How did you---Oh nevermind, I don't want to think about it." Morris muttered. The cabbie simply smiled a smug sort of smile as Morris climbed into the car.
"Queen Anne--" he started as the cabbie interrupted, "Oh, not to worry...not to worry..." Morris couldn't help but feel something was really not right about that lad...

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

Vance watched the Prince's display of power with attentiveness. To him it was less of a meeting and more of a tragedy. The Prince of the city knew how to put on a good show under the guise of a stern gathering. Yes, betrayal to the Camarilla was a serious offense. Yes, all five had to be punished as the law demands. That did not mean it had to be a simple speech with a few beheadings. No, this was a theatrical.

One thing that puzzled him about the prince was the ambiguity surrounding whether or not he wore a mask. The robes he wore (which were absolutely impeccable) doubled as a hood, and his face was obscured in the dim light. Vance thought, perhaps, that he wore a mask that only covered one side of his face. Another part of him was convinced that he chose a mask that blended in with the color of his face, thus creating the illusion that he did not wear a mask when in fact he did! Vance noted the use of lighting used to produce this mirage.

Each blow delivered by the refined sword was preceded by the chanting of the traditions. Vance merely whispered them; his attention focused on the expressions of the traitors. In her final moments the alluring woman showed an unexpected look of regret. It was as if the last seconds of her life had quelled the beast that is within all Kindred and the human showed itself. It did not last for more than three seconds, as the blade severed her head. It was a shame that such a beautiful creature would meet such a gruesome end. At least the crimson stains on her dress matched the subtle red of her hair. Her appearance was now completed.

The other four were executed one by one, but his interest waned with each. In his eyes the spectacle lessened in grandeur with each death. The initial shock and exhilarating realization that the undead had finally found death became less and less intriguing. Vance thought it was a shame that the same process was played out for each execution. He understood why the Prince did it this way, but mixing things up a bit always benefited a show.

And then there came the announcement: a Blood Hunt. There was yet another traitor to the Camarilla in the city. This one was unafraid to reveal themselves to humans and frequently mingled with the Sabbat. A dangerous game for one to play. The Prince promised a reward to anyone who found her, and encouraged them to work together.

Five minutes after the Prince dismissed them, Vance rose to his feet. Morris, Gladys, and her childe appeared to have left. Vance bit his lip and felt disappointment for a short moment. They seemed different than the other kindred. Gladys was in the body of a child, a rarity in its own right. Vance guessed that both she and Morris were much older than he, and probably more qualified to partake in the Blood Hunt. All kindred were required to participate, but he would feel safer with allies.

Nevertheless he had informed them both of who he was and they knew where the galleries he frequented were. If they wished to cooperate, he would wait for them to seek him out.

But, the night was young! It was not even ten thirty. Vance left the grounds and headed back into the city. His favorite gallery, The Oval Circle, was open twenty-four seven, and what better end to an evening than being among the underground artists of Seattle?

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

"Just on time," Gladys said, as Vance Lexington entered the art gallery. She was sitting on the floor across from the entrance where she could keep her eyes on the door, cross-legged and leaning her head against the wall behind her, on which hung a few bizarre paintings depicting Lord-knows-what, abstract exemplifications of pain and love and anger or what-have-you. She had her parasol open again and was holding it above her head, shading herself from the gallery's dim fluorescent lighting.

King Clarence sat between her crossed legs and James Wilder stood to her left, straight and silent, hand resting on his cane in front of him, top hat slightly askew on his head. As Lexington entered The Oval Circle, Gladys Florentine grabbed Leon with her free hand and stood up to greet the Toreador. "Leon told me you'd be here," was all she said.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

The cab was taking a rather odd route back to the flat, but he wasn't terribly familiar with the city quite yet. He did know that the taxi was not nearing anywhere near Queen Anne. Instead, it seemed to carry on across Lake Union. "Oi! You there! Just where are you going?"
The back of the cabbie's head seemed to shake with silent laughter. "There's somewhere else you might like to be tonight. Trust me on this one. By the way, call me Carl." his voice still in a monotone.
"And just where would that be, Mr. Carl?"
"Just....Carl will do. And the Fremont district may be...enlightening for you..."

Morris did not like the mysterious tone that his odd taxi driving benefactor was taking. He also had the strangest feeling that this night would not be the last that he would see this...Carl. He also didn't know this Fremont district. However, as the taxi drove on, Morris noted how the streets seemed to take on a very distinct flavor. Even passing under a highway bypass and spying out the window, something very odd indeed. A rather macabre statue of what looked like a troll trying to eat an automobile. Seems like a place young Vance would fancy.... Morris thought to himself. After several more blocks, the cab lurched in front of a building with very art deco style windows. On the windows, it had the words: The Oval Circle painted rather flamboyantly.
Hah, a charming little pun, isn't it? He wondered why on earth he was being taken here and why, but he dared not ask the cabbie. "Wise choice, Reggie!" Damn that voice again! "Never ask questions when there's something tricksy going on!" It was almost as if the strange cabbie could even hear the voice, for Morris saw him smile smugly again in the rearview mirror.
"I'll wait. No matter. I know you are a reliable fare."
"Er uh...thank you...Carl."

After again paying the odd lad, he exited the cab. He was worrying about Harold now but somehow he knew it was just a passing worry. Morris entered the building and saw immediately that i was an art gallery. It was a wide and spacious room with many works on display. Sculptures of men and women in relaxed poses, some, even appearing in pain. More abstract art sculptures involving twisting metal painted in bright colors. Some paintings, Morris mused, looked almost as if they came from Andy Warhol's garage. But there was a set of works in display that stuck out indefinitely. Very macabre images of what looked like hideous beasts. Some were people, appearing to be mutilated. Others were of bloody tentacles and scenes of carnage.

"Blimey...These ARE interesting..." Morris said to himself.
"Thank you!" answered a familiar voice. It was Vance Lexington again still dressed the same as when Morris left him. Only his mask was gone. Morris could clearly see that he had a rather handsome face without it. He was smiling with pride over his work. And rightfully so, for the paintings were very detailed.

"The...energy being captured in this one," Morris said pointing to the painting of what looked like a ghoulish creature resting in an empty soiled room. "is quite hard to place but exquisite! You really are a great artist!"

Vance had smiled and bid large thanks, but he was interrupted by none other than the little girl from the Prince's ball....

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

(ooc, I'm going to edit my character a bit to have him have a Ghoul who helps keep the gallery open 24/7. Shouldn't affect anything so far.)

Once Vance returned home, he got his keys and started his car, which was a black 1970 Chevy Imapla. It was a quiet ride into the Fremont district. He passed by one of his favorite sculptures which was of a beast attacking a car. Soon enough he arrived at The Oval Circle, parked his car, and entered the gallery.

To his surprise, he was not alone. Sitting in front of him facing the door was none other than Gladys. "Just on time," she said. "Leon told me you'd be here."

Vance smiled, "Fancy meeting twice in one night. Leon is quite the fortune teller it would seem." Vance removed his mask and motioned for her to move aside and out from in front of the doorway. While it did not appear that anyone else was in the gallery at the moment, he preferred not being in the open. "To what do I owe this unexpected visit?"

Before Gladys could answer, another figure walked into the gallery. It was none other than Morris. He entered the gallery and approached one of the paintings. He stood there for a moment taking in all the details. "Blimey, these are interesting!" he exclaimed.

"Thank you!"

"The energy being captured in this one is quite hard to place but exquisite! You really are a great artist!"

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

Gladys cupped her face in her hand (just then realizing that she was still wearing her mask from the masquerade) when Mr. Morris walked in. "Leon," she muttered under her breath, "did you know he'd be here? Then why didn't you tell me? This guy is off his rocker. I don't think he was ever even on it to begin with." Then she looked up and removed the fancy feathered mask from her face, slipping it into her purse. She glanced over at Wilder for a moment, noticing that he'd already taken care of his mask. He had probably left it in the car.

"To be honest," Gladys began, pacing in slow circles around Wilder while she explained the reason for her visit, "I was just going to go straight home and attend to my own business; this blood hunt nonsense doesn't really interest me. My James here seemed concerned however—it will be the first time since his embrace that a blood hunt has been called and he's all rather new to this whole thing." She stopped for a moment and Wilder merely nodded his confirmation.

"King Clarence admonished me that it would be outright neglectful not to properly train my childe up in the traditions of the Camarilla. I'd be putting his unlife at risk. But you see, as it turns out, I have never been much of a social vampire." Gladys didn't care to use euphemisms about her condition; she'd been a vampire for far longer than she'd been a human. "I can't very well go out on a blood hunt alone, obviously—" She stopped to let her audience fill in the blank about what was so obvious, then continued, "—I'd get my dress dirty."

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

"—I'd get my dress dirty."

Morris had heard her say and couldn't help but smile. It was adorable in a strange way.
He lowered his voice as to not attract attention from unwanted ears, "I cannot recall if I was ever involved in such a thing. But the whole business seems so...sudden." He was staring at another one of Vance's paintings. This one was of the bloody tentacle. Why it made him feel warm inside, he had no idea. Morris never was too big on macabre images but never showed outright distaste...at least as far as he could remember.

"Do any of you know this...traitor?" he asked quietly. "I have not been here long so...my list of acquaintances here is rather limited." He thought of the mysterious Carl again. And then of the young woman and her escort at the Prince's Ball. He did hope they were safe. Such a nice man that Indie.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade

Vance went into thought but was soon distracted by a young lady approaching the group. "Good evening, Chloe."

"Good evening Vance," the lady smiled. Vance broke off from the other two to address her.

"Is there anyone else in the gallery at the moment?" Vance asked.

She shook her head, "and there hasn't been for the better part of two hours."

"Thank you." Chloe nodded and disappeared into another exhibit.

"Right," he turned to Morris, "I'm afraid not. The name does not ring any bells nor does it bring back any memories.
