Many humans believe monsters to be creatures of myth and legends. They are blissfully unaware that these creatures are in fact very real and are living along side them, even to this day...
You are a mythological creature who is living in today's modern era. According to the law of mythological beasts, you must have a human form as not to cause alarm.
Of course there is always screw ups, and that's where the Youkai Organization comes in. It is their job to make sure that the existence that monsters aren't made known to to the human populace, who outnumber monsters 1o,000 to one. So, whenever a Bigfoot is sighted (for like the billionth time) or Nesi gets caught on camera (again) it is up to the Youkai Organization to tamper with the evidence to make sure there is no proof beyond a reasonable doubt about monsters.
However, not every monster thinks they should stay hidden. The Rebels are a group of monsters who would love nothing more to start a war with the humans and be the ones who are controlling the world, not the humans. They are at constant ends with the Youkai Organization, and they are the biggest threat to the peace the monster world enjoys. They prefer to think themselves as "freedom fighters," however the Youkai Organization thinks the word "terrorist" is a better word.
Now things are coming to a head, and ♥♥♥♥ is about to get ugly. Who wins the war? It is up to you to decide.
Important Note: The main city is in Chicago, IL, USA. However, since we can travel because of planes and ♥♥♥♥ like that, distance is no issue.
1) No power-playing/god-modding.
2) No "modern age" renditions of monsters. For example, if you choose a vampire, we are having none of this sparkly vampire vegan ♥♥♥♥. As a result, you may want to do some research on the monster and the role they played in society. Like for example, if you decide to be a kitsune, they would not be a member of the Youkai Organization because they are more malevolent creatures. As such they would be a Rebel, or a citizen who sympathizes with the Rebels.
3) Keep in mind that these monsters are hiding as humans. While they should have something about them that is a bit out of the norm, there shouldn't be doing anything to attract suspicion. Not even the Rebels. Unless they are in a third world country. Like the middle of Africa.
4) I will be going through an approval process for each character. However, because there are things that I may overlook or not think of, I will allow other RPers to bring their own concerns forward about any character. This of course includes my own.
5) Another thing to keep in mind while creating characters is the nationality of the monster you are creating. Let's say you are creating a kitsune. They aren't going to be German or whatever. They are going to be Japanese. (Also, to make it more authenticate, you might want to do a quick research of the culture if you are unfamiliar. You don't need to be an expert, but at least have some basic 101 knowledge.)
6) If someone is being OP or OOC during the RP, anybody can call them out. The etiquette to this is "ooc: [person name] please go the discussion thread because [reason]." (This thread will become the discussion thread once we get going.) Then the argument will take place, and if an agreement cannot be reached, I will make the final judgement.
7) Players may fight other players. This is a war between monsters after all, so conflict is to be expected. However, you may not kill them without permission. If you are going to fight, I would suggest you plan it out before hand. At least figure out what is going to happen, and who is going to win.
8) Please keep ooc remarks and discussions in the discussion thread. That is what it is there for.
9) To keep this RP active, I would ask that people post on a regular basis. At least once a week if they aren't a really main part of the action. More often if they are.
10) Rules can be added or modified as events warrant. However, there will be a discussion among the RPers and an announcement before this happens.
Cases Case 1:
Taingou (shooting start dog) falls near a rebel base that it is close enough to cause alarm. The Rebels believe this is an attack on them and sends a group out (with sticks) to investigate. The Organization is interested because they recognized it is not behaving like a normal meteor, so they are interested in checking it out. Location: Small village in India Outcome:
None so far.
Characters Jalen Koning - Rebel
Sex: Male Actual Age: 39 Apparent Age (human): 20-21
Type of Monster:Impundulu Nationality:Afrikaner RP Group: Rebel Role within group: Informant: Because of his social connections and outgoing nature, Jalen is often called to find information for the Rebel movement.
Solider: Jalen, in his Impundulu form, is used sparingly when violence is needed. However, as the tensions between the Youkai Organization and Rebels grow, he will find his less subtle services needed with more frequency.
Appearance as monster: A large bird as tall as an adult human, with alternating black and white feathers. In this form he has a sharp beak evolved for stabbing, and a set of sharp talons for grabbing prey. His eyes are small and beady, and the head is mostly skinless besides a fringe of feathers starting on his crown. Appearance as human: When taking the shape of a human, Jalen looks like a young man in his early twenties. He's a bit shorter in this form, reaching 6 feet tall, although his unruly black hair adds a few inches. His face is hairless and somewhat angular, and he has a tendency to hold his head a bit forward when he's talking.
His eyes are dark and beady, and he doesn't move them often. Unless the occasion demands otherwise he wears a long sleeved white shirt with black sleeves, and a well worn pair of jeans.
Battle abilities as monster: In his monster form Jalen can fly, summon thunder and lightning, and has sharp talons alongside a razor sharp beak. His vision is equal to that of a peregrin falcon, and he can spot small movements from miles away. Battle inabilities as monster: Unable to swim, not terribly fast of a flier, incredibly loud when moving.
Battle abilities as human: Although still capable of summoning thunder and lightning, he never does for safety reasons. As a human Jalen loses most of his natural advantages including flight and his talons. However, as a human he is faster than most humans because of his light bone mass, and along these same lines is a far better acrobat. His vision, though not as impressive in this form, is still formidable. Battle inabilities as human: His bones are incredibly light, and thus incredibly fragile. Although he can swim as a human, he still instinctively fears getting wet or submerged because of his bird nature. Although he can still summon lightning, doing so would cause him to be struck by it, which would very likely kill him.
Quirks: Bobs his head when he's distracted. He often looks around instead of focusing on one particular thing, although he can fight this compulsion if he needs to. He tends to move his head more then his body, and he very rarely turns his entire body towards anything.
He doesn't like horses.
Personality: Jalen is smooth, fast talking, and a self proclaimed cynic. Despite his bitter outlook, he's outgoing and likes to be the center of attention, to the point of stealing attention from other people. Basically, he's an attention whore. He doesn't hate humans, but he thinks of himself as better then them.
He also has a weakness for women, and will often go out of his way to impress the unfortunate ones that catch his eye.
History: Jalen was born in 1973 at the site of a lightning strike. Within hours of hatching, and still a fledgling, Jalen was found by a wealthy Afrikaner, and taken as a pet. He quickly grew larger then the man who had found him expected, and after a few months the man tried to kill the monstrous bird out of fear. Jalen instinctively summoned a bolt of lightning to save himself, killing the man. After the strike, Jalen drank the blood of several livestock and flew into the wild.
After this incident, members of the Youkai Organization began to search for the renegade Impundulu, trying to stop him before he exposed himself to any more humans.
Jalen was eventually taken in by a Tikoloshe living nearby, who raised him a few more years and explained the law of mythological beasts, as well as the role of the Youkai Organization. The Tikoloshe raised the Impundulu to maturity before Jalen left, his instinctive urge to prey on humans reaching a boiling point.
Now four years old and able to shape shift into the form of a young man, Jalen drifted through Capetown scavenging for food and preying on the occasional human. After almost ten years of turmoil and purposeless existence, he managed to buy himself into a better position using some information he had overheard as leverage. Realizing that he could acquire more , he quickly became a well known name in the town if you were anyone with information.
In the mid-nineties, Jalen became involved with the daughter of a local drug lord while trying to find information to help take him down. After the father figured out his reason for being with his daughter, he cornered Jalen and attacked him. Still in his human form, he panicked and summoned a bolt of lightning to try to save himself. He and his attacker were hit, killing the drug lord instantly and severely wounding Jalen.
During his journey to the hospital, he was found by a member of the Rebel Movement who could heal him. In exchange for saving him, Jalen was forced to become a servant of the Rebel faction the man belonged to.
Escaping to America, the location of the Rebel faction, he quickly fell back into old habits and starting gathering information and contacts. He now flies between Midwestern American towns, his focus now on gathering information that could assist Rebels in any way. He sees monsters as oppressed by humans and the Youkai Organization, and is trying to help liberate them from restrictions he views as unfair and limiting to their true potential...while also trying to mastermind his own escape from the Rebel who control him.
Nyarlathotep - Rebel
Sex: Genderless Actual Age: Aeons Apparent Age (human): 26
Type of Monster: Elder God (simply means he is very old and powerful, not an actual deity) Nationality: Egyptian RP Group: Rebel Role within group: Subterfuge, psychological warfare, fighter
Appearance as monster: Nyarlathotep can take many forms, but his preferred form is a horrid abomination. It stands at fifteen feet tall. Rather than a head, there is a large tongue/tentacle. It has many mouths dripping with liquids. Has two clawed hands, and no eyes, and walks on three legs. Image. Appearance as human: His hair is long, and naturally dark-blue. He stands at six foot even. His skin is darkened by the exposure to sunlight. His face is prominent and strong, with a face that twists with cunning. Image.
Battle abilities as monster: Has many forms he can transform into, with each having various strengths like the ability to fly or become a poisonous mist. All forms listed here (note that Howler in the Dark is his preferred form). Nyarlathotep has the ability to strike an inhuman fear into the minds and souls of his enemies, causing them to be driven to insanity or unconsciousness if they aren't of strong will. Incredibly resilient. Battle inabilities as monster: Too strong of a sunlight can weaken him, forcing him to turn into The Crawling Mist and retreat into darkness, or revert to his human form.
Battle abilities as human: His human form is slim and quick. He has trained in hand-to-hand combat for innumerable years. Battle inabilities as human: He doesn't possess much knowledge of modern day technology, and thus can't really use guns or other such weapons. Vulnerable at range.
Quirks: As he enjoys the Ancient Egyptian culture the most, his house is full of Egyptian artifacts, and he has two Egyptian cats. While he's learned to not wear extravagant jewelery in public, he still wears silk shirts and pants that can make him stand out.
Personality: Nyarlathotep has and always will serve himself first. While he sides with the rebels, he only does this because he doesn't like Youkai Organization (which is quite young by his standards) dictating what he can and can't do. He doesn't care to actually rule over the humans. He gets the most pleasure out of tormenting the psyche of the people around him. He doesn't really see much of a difference between other monsters and the humans. Occasionally he'll sell dark artifacts to a person, or give them vivid lucid dreams at night. This usually ends with the person being put in an insane asylum, much to the amusement of Nyarlathotep.
While he is very powerful, he usually doesn't bother the organization unless it tries to directly oppose him.
History: Nyarlathotep has been around since the beginning of time, or very much near it. He did nothing of note until Ancient Egypt sprung up, which he found to be the first civilization of Earth to be interesting. For a time he lived amongst the Egyptians and absorbed their culture. While he knew that Gods like Ra and Anubis didn't actually exist, he was amazed at their dedication to them. Over time he passed on information to the people (especially the Pharaohs), which advanced their civilization's technology and society.
Then there came a time where he found the pleasure of instilling insanity in the mortals. He would go about from city to city and perform supernatural feats. Anyone who came to watch him experienced the most tormenting dreams for the rest of their life. Many of them committed suicide. From there on out rumors began to spread of "The Black Pharaoh" - a man who caused nightmares to all who heard him.
And so this continued throughout history, and throughout other cultures. He would live among them, learn their culture, and spend some time in a form of monstrosity to toy with the people. When the organization came about he started becoming much more subtler, not wishing to be discovered. While the chances of him being able to defeat the monsters in battle was on his side, he didn't care enough to do anything about it.
An Hao - Youkai Organization
Sex: Female Actual Age: 1 (and a half) Apparent Age (human): 18
Type of Monster:Shishi (Foo Dog) Nationality: Chinese RP Group: Youkai Agency Role within group: Sentry
Appearance as monster: A lion with golden and red fur which resembles fire. She has stunning blue eyes and two of her teeth look like that of a sabertooth tiger. She has a golden band on her left front leg.
Appearance as human: A young Asian woman with long, wild red hair which looks kind of like a mane. She has pale white skin, and the same stunning blue eyes she does in her monster form. She wears faded ripped blue jeans and a black camisole. She wears a lucky Chinese coin around her neck.
Battle abilities as monster: She's a ♥♥♥♥ing lion. She can sprint fast, and not to mention she has claws and teeth. Her battle strategy would tackle a person and either suffocate them (cut off their air flow in one way or another) or snap their neck. Whatever one strike her fancy that day.
She also knows when somebody is entering the Youkai Agency with ill intentions. Battle inabilities as monster: She has low stamina and she cannot take on multiple targets by herself. She can only attack one person at a time.
Battle abilities as human: Compared to other humans, she has improved sprinting, reflexes and strength. Battle inabilities as human: She is curious about everything. Because she is so young, she really hasn't had the time to learn much about the human world. So, even though she is supposed to be on guard duty, she constantly gets distracted by the littlest things and feels compelled to investigate.
Quirks: An always has sucker or some other type of round candy which she is always rolling around in her mouth. When she stretches, she stretches like that of a cat, and when she is "investigating" something, she typically gets on her haunches and sneaks up on it like a cat would do when it is hunting its prey. She purrs when she is happy.
Personality: She is a playful cub who hasn't really been taught all the in and outs of the world.
The limit of her knowledge is her job, how to fight and how to hide from humans. As such, whenever something new and interesting strikes her fancy (which is a lot) she goes to investigate, leaving her post. This annoys everyone in the organization because even though she can tell if someone is breaking in, there is the fact of the matter she is the sentry, and should not be wandering off to follow a butterfly for seven blocks before someone drags her back.
History: An Hao along with her elder brother Ji Hao are the current Shishi guardians of Youkai Agency. The Hao family have always been the staunch supporters of the Youkai Agency and its cause, providing the security that Youkai Agency needs to be able to operate as they do. Each member of the Hao family has been specially raised to protect the fortress and have been a major part in the past in keeping Youkai Agency up and running.
An Hao may be young, but great things are expected of her. Now, if she would stop chasing those goddamn butterflies.
Ji Hao- Youkai Organization (secondary character)
Sex: Male Actual Age: 1 (and a half) Apparent Age (human): 18
Type of Monster:Shishi (Foo Dog) Nationality: Chinese RP Group: Youkai Agency Role within group: Sentry
Appearance as monster: A lion with golden and blue fur which resembles blue fire. He has stunning blue eyes and two of his teeth look like that of a sabertooth tiger. He has a golden band on his left front leg.
Basically his sister, except he is blue.
Appearance as human: A young Asian man with short, wild navy blue hair which looks kind of like a mane. He has pale white skin, and the same stunning blue eyes he does in his monster form. He wears nice black slacks and polo t-shirts.
Battle abilities as monster: He's a ♥♥♥♥ing lion. He can sprint fast, and not to mention he has claws and teeth. His battle strategy would tackle a person and either suffocate them (cut off their air flow in one way or another) or snap their neck. Whatever one strikes his fancy that day.
He guards the Youkai Agency like a bawss. Battle inabilities as monster: He has low stamina and he cannot take on multiple targets by herself. He can only attack one person at a time.
Battle abilities as human: Compared to other humans, he has improved sprinting, reflexes and strength. Battle inabilities as human: He thinks he is superior to everyone else, and as such looks down on them. If he deems somebody 'unworthy' he wouldn't fight them unless they were directly trying to get in the place he was supposed to be guarding. His social abilities is zero.
Quirks:He has a small round ball which he carried around plays with all the time and freaks out when he loses it. While he manages to keep the fact he is a lion more on lid then his sister, he does purrs when he is happy.
Personality: He is straight and serious, and is constantly pissed off at his sister's laid back attitude. He wishes her to take their job more seriously. Even though he was raised with the same amount of knowledge she was, he has none of her curiosity. All he lives for is his job.
History: Ji Hao along with his younger twin sister An Hao are the current Shishi guardians of Youkai Agency. The Hao family have always been the staunch supporters of the Youkai Agency and its cause, providing the security that Youkai Agency needs to be able to operate as they do. Each member of the Hao family has been specially raised to protect the fortress and have been a major part in the past in keeping Youkai Agency up and running.
Ji Hao may be young, but great things are expected of him. Now only if he got an attitude adjustment, he could rise through the ranks.
Nissie Bergstrom - Youkai Organization
Sex: Female Actual Age: 32 Apparent Age (human): 32
Type of Monster: Troll Nationality: Scandinavian RP Group: Youkai Organization Role within group: Lieutenant
Appearance as monster: Contrary to popular belief, female trolls are exceptionally beautiful. Nissie is no different. She stands 5'6'' and has long, golden hair which lays flat against her back. Her skin is so porcelain white and flawless it appears to glow. Her eyes shine like sapphires. As for the curves of her body, they are what every girl dreams of. Her clothing always pulls in the right direction to make men drool.
Depending on what she is wearing as a human, her outfits also change to look more elegant. The material will change to be of a more expensive variety, and the cut will change to fit the new body. Appearance as human: Though not as beautiful as her monster appearance, she is still quite fetching. Her hair is cut short and her skin has some color. She is also less curvacious, and her clothing gets 20% less cool ...
To the office Nissie wears well tailored business suits, and on expeditions she wears whatever outfit best fits that environment. On her free time she likes to experiment with different fashions. Though her favorite wear is evening gowns, she has been known to rock "undesirables" fashion when at lower class events.
Battle abilities as monster: Exceptionally strong and agile. She has the strength of three men and the grace of three gazelles! Battle inabilities as monster: Anything made of steel harms her. For this reason she protects herself in tight-knit armor made of interwoven wool and Kevlar threads.
Battle abilities as human: She retains a portion of her strength and agility, making her above average for a normal human. Battle inabilities as human: Steel does not cause harm, but does make her feel unpleasant. Being in contact with it for too long will cause her to get sick.
Weapon of Choice: Due to Nissie's brute force nature she is not above grabbing the closest object and beating someone to death with it. Even if the object is a pillow, she will hit a person until they are dead. When on missions, however, she carries with her a sword she named Sigrid. Sigrid is about 5' long (this is about twice the size of a normal viking sword) and whose hilt appears like intertwined swan feathers wrapping around each other.
Quirks: Nissie is independent and head strong. She will obey an order, but only if she hasn't thought of a better one. Although she tries to hide her feminine perfection in favor of being tough, she is a closet case fashionista and blows a lot of her money on cute outfits. Outside of human interaction, she does have a minor animal magnetism. Though she cannot talk with animals or anything of the like, they do seem to like her a lot more than normal.
Personality: Nissie is the epitome of a nice troll - she prefers to be outside and live alone, but she enjoys cooking and holding parties. If anyone should come across her while she is out camping, she will share her meal in exchange for some social bonding. She also has a weak spot for animals and will stop to talk with strays should she come across one.
History: Nissie was born and raised in the mountain ranges of Scandinavia. Her family wondered from place to place because of humans expanding into their territory. Though neither of her parents had a problem with humans, they feared someone might try to take their daughter away and did not want to reveal themselves as they monsters they were.
One day the inevitable happened and when Nissie was 6 years old she was discovered by a small boy who was roaming around in the woods. Finding her pretty and believing she was also human, he grabbed her hand and led her back to his parents. (Seeing as she had never seen someone her own age, she followed with no complaints.) He asked them if he could keep her. They said no and asked Nissie where she came from. Due to the language barrier she did not understand what they were asking and stood in silence as they repeated the question.
Not knowing what else to do with her, the town accepted her as their own. She was adopted by a couple who had lost their son earlier that year. They loved her and doted on her, all the while being oblivious to her heritage.
Nissie was a handful growing up, but the town accepted this as she was proving herself to be useful. What might have taken several men to do only took one Nissie. When she came of age suitors would line up outside her door, but she turned them all away because they were not able to keep up with her.
The news of a superhuman living in a small town in Scandinavia did not make a very big splash in the news world, but it was enough to catch the attention of the Youkai Organization. Once they discovered Nissie, they offered her a position in their police force. She accepted the challenge, and kissed her adopted parents goodbye.
Since joining the organization Nissie has worked her way up to the rank of Lieutenant. Though she has been offered a higher rank, she turns it down in favor of being able to leave on expeditions.
Kaleb (Secondary Character) - Civilian
Sex: Male Actual Age: ?? Apparent Age (human): 48
Type of Monster: Guardian Nationality: African RP Group: Civilian Role within group: Guards Humanity
Appearance as monster: Guardians look like a mix between a hyena and a lion. They have broad chests, thick legs, and huge paws. Their mouths stretch into wide grins, revealing rows of sharp teeth. The color of their fur is of a dark maroon, with their manes and markings coming in a variety of reds and purples. Geometric markings cover their face and back. (Kaleb's color is a maroon with deep purple added to it.)
They hold their heads down low. The Gods forced this pose as a constant reminder to the race they are servants, not masters. Guardians have only raised their head once, and this was when they challenged the Gods. Appearance as human: Although he was created by Gods from different regions, Kaleb looks of African decent. He keeps his hair cut short and his chin smooth. He is tall and well built. African markings decorate his face and stretch down his back and arms. Though many find his appearance frightening, it does not register with him on why. He does not worry much about this problem.
Battle abilities as monster: Kaleb was built like a tank – he has thick skin, powerful claws, and fast feet. He can contort his bone structure a bit, allowing him to be either a quadruped or bipedal. All Guardians lack the ability to dream when they sleep and instead wander through the dreams of other sleeping creatures. Here they can change the dreams, and if they wanted to they can walk through the dreams to where the dreamer is … dreaming. He will appear next to the dreamer, but usually sneaks away before they notice him. This is an easy way to get from current point A to somewhere around point B in little time at all. Battle inabilities as monster: Like all Guardians, Kaleb is pure hand-to-paw combat. He has to get up close before he can do any damage. Within dreams he can still get damaged.
Battle abilities as human: Kaleb retains his thick skin and a portion of his power. He can still walk through dreams, though within in the dreams he always appears in his monster form. Battle inabilities as human: He is weaker and slower than his monster form. Also he is not a contortionist in this form.
Quirks: Kaleb has a problem with moral ambiguity and will begin an argument with himself over whether or not a course of action will get him banished down to the underworld. If this fit is allowed to continue for too long he will begin to twitch, scratch, and growl.
Personality: Due to Kaleb being asleep for most of the Earth's beginning he is uncorrupted by the power the other Guardians succumbed to. He is obedient to his purpose in life, and that is to protect humanity. This makes him a very kind and generous soul. Outside of his sense of duty, Kaleb is a very curious pup. He enjoys learning about how humanity develops during the years he was asleep, and admires them for their accomplishments. A miniscule portion of him is jealous of humanity for this because they have each other to lean on. Kaleb feels alone for the reason he is separated from his pack.
History: When the Earth was still young the different tribal Gods were at constant war with each other. After one particularly devastating battle, the Gods decided it was unfair to take their anger out on humanity. In order to protect the tribes from their bickering, they came together and created a new race.
This race, always refereed to as “Guardians” in whatever language, was made to be subservient to both the Gods and humanity. For a time humanity enjoyed an era of peace and prosperity, thanks to these Guardians.
Eventually the Guardians' began to question their role as servants and ignored their duty. The Gods became furious with this and threatened the race, but the Guardians were unmoved. For the first time they raised their heads above their shoulders and saw the vast world as their own. They challenged the Gods, claiming their right to live free – without humans and without Gods. The Gods, fearful of the Guardians destroying them, desired to get rid of their creations. However, even combined they did not have the power to smite all of them. If they could not get rid of them, they decided to place them where they could do no harm. They banished the guardians to the underworld. All of them, except one.
Kaleb was a young cub when the Guardians' challenge was made, and as a young cub he found no interest in the issue. Separating himself from the rest of the pack, he took a nap under a tree. The branches sheltered the cub, and the Gods overlooked him when they transported the rest of his race to the underworld. When he awoke, he found himself alone and cried out in fear. The Gods, hearing this, found him and asked each other what to do. He did not seem to share the rest of the race's mentality about freedom, and he was just one cub. However, he would grow up and the Gods feared he would try to carry out the Guardian's plan to destroy them. After a vote – with the decision gap being one vote – they decided to spare him the fate of his people in return for him continuing his duty as guardian. Kaleb agreed.
Kaleb was an excellent guardian – except when he fell asleep. During peaceful times Kaleb would doze off for centuries on end. He would sleep through war, peace, and progress alike. When he would finally wake up he would fine the world a drastically different place.
The last time Kaleb was awake was during the roaring twenties. Seeing the prosperity the world was enjoying, he decided to take a nap as the rest of the world danced and drank their money away. By the time he awoke it was 2012, and heavy machinery was filling in his den. He walked out to find construction workers working on plans for a new Walmart.
With one big stretch, Kaleb decided it was time to see how the world had changed.
Sabir Cooper - Civilian (Store Owner)
Sex: Male Actual Age: 2900 (162) Apparent Age (human): 27
Type of Monster: Lamassu Nationality: Middle-Eastern RP Group: Civilian Role within group: ...Store Owner
Appearance as monster: A large lion with a golden coat and a dark brown mane. His face is flat with human eyes. A pair of white, feathered wings span out from his shoulders which sit half folded when not in use.
Appearance as human: Standing just above six feet tall, he has a lean muscular build and a tan complexion with strong facial features and a pronounced jaw line. His hair is a dark brown color and comes partway down his neck and covers most of his forehead, obscuring his hazel eyes at times. He has a full beard with a bare spot where a crooked scar that starts just below his left eye and curves down and across his cheek, ending at his jaw to the left of his chin cuts through. He usually wears long sleeved shirts in black or white that he rolls up to just below the elbow and worn out blue jeans with casual white shoes.
Battle abilities as monster: Large powerful paws ending in sharp claws to slash and swipe with as well as a heavy and muscular body with weight to throw into a charge like a bull. Strong wings that can cast large blasts of wind with each beat but are not capable of flight. Battle inabilities as monster: His large mass makes him incapable of flight. Has only minimal ability to stop or turn while charging.
Battle abilities as human: Above average strength and stamina as well as an acute sense of his surroundings and he is more flexible with greater mobility than his monster form. Battle inabilities as human: Diminished strength and lack of wings to kick up blasts of wind.
Quirks: He has a great fondness for tea as it was one of the first enjoyable things he tried in Human society, though he can’t make a good pot to save his life. He tends to also sit as though he needs to compensate for his wings while human.
Personality: He retains much of his pride from when he was a guardian millennium ago and will step up and face any challenge presented to him and will seek them out to prove his strength, only turning a fight down if he believes it isn’t worth his time and showing no mercy towards his enemies. He will handle everything with the utmost seriousness and is still developing his sense of humor.
He is incredibly perceptive and usually picks up on small details while having a high intelligence and a mastery of strategy.
He is rather impatient and quick to anger. He is also very protective in nature, particularly towards those he feels he has a personal connection with regardless of whether they may actually need protection or not and will tolerate his charge to an extent.
History: Sabir was created in 883 BC as a guardian for the Assyrian kings to watch over one of the city gates. He was given no name and would remain as a still form for centuries, watching the decay of the society that created him before being lost to time.
Years later in 1850 he was uncovered by humans from Britain. With the gate and people he was to protect long since gone Sabir broke free of his stone form which had been damaged during the last millennium, a large crack along his face turning to a scar as he turned to a human form so he could interact with his human excavators under the guise of a foreign traveler. Arriving in Britain and slowly learning the modern human customs he gave himself a name that he learned in his modern home and a surname that he had gotten from a guestbook at one of the inns his company had stayed at. He lived a quiet life until nearly sixty years had passed and with the threat of human war growing, he crossed the ocean to America.
With the Human World growing at a more rapid rate than ever and becoming more complacent with his disguise, Sabir settled in what was a small town at the time and earned a place to stay by helping a small shop owner. It wasn’t until the new millennium that he was approached by a group calling themselves the ‘Youkai’ who informed him that he was to keep his form a secret and that should anything ever happen, he would only need to call and it would be dealt with. Heeding the advice Sabir took over the shop as the owner passed on and continued his life as a human in hopes of keeping any attention away from him.

Appearance as monster: An incredibly tall human, his torso and legs stretched to around twelve feet. Has tendril-like arms that can stretch to an infinite length, but normally rest at around eight feet long. Dozens of tendrils sprout from his back. His ‘face’ has no features other than a circular, needle-fanged mouth. This thing. Appearance as human: A gangly, sober-faced, black-suited businessman. Black hair, completely slicked down. His grey eyes appear a bit too shallow, and his nose a bit too flat. Apart from that, he is rather handsome.
Battle abilities as monster: As stated above his arms have incredible reach, and are covered in tiny barbs, which deal awful damage if they are whip-cracked at someone. The tendrils on his back allow him to climb buildings and travel at high speeds (imagine that bit in Spiderman 2 where Doc Ock shows off with the car throwing). He can also reshape his body, flattening and stretching as and when he wants to (imagine Mister Fantastic from the fantastic four). He is surprisingly tough, and will melt away into the shadows before he allows himself to die. He has generally amazing reflexes and speed, to such an extent that he is almost impossible to hit. He can travel between shadows without passing through the intervening area, but only over a limited distance. Battle inabilities as monster: whilst his whip-arms are very damaging, he lacks physical strength, and has difficulties with armoured opponents. He dislikes bright light, but it doesn’t actually hurt him.
Battle abilities as human: As a human, Slend has little to no battle competency. He is a very good shot, but rarely carries a gun, preferring to transform whenever possible. In both forms, if he doesn’t want to be seen, he is not invisible, but instead unnoticeable, meaning the eye will skip straight over him. However, this ability does not extend to children or animals, who can always see him, or people who are already looking at him, or expressly searching a very small space for him. He can cause images to become corrupted and blurry, and disrupt transmissions of images and videos, although this requires active effort. Battle inabilities as human: Pretty much everything.
Quirks: Slend is an unnaturally hungry person, and eats great amounts, even if he does so with impeccable manners. His mere presence terrifies children and animals. His smile is unbelievably unnerving.
Personality: He is unbelievably polite, even to his mortal enemies. He is unnoticeable when he wants to be, and flamboyantly obvious when he doesn’t. He is, however, not a nice person, and will act in an unscrupulous manner at all times. He is incredibly intelligent.
History: Taken during his early childhood by another Slenderman, Slend was one of the small percentage of victims who survive the transformation process. Today, he does what any Slenderman does- kidnap children for either consumption of conversion to another Slenderman. As the Youkai organization disagrees with this way of life, he finds home with the rebels, where his inconspicuousness and ability to mould his body makes him perfect for any stealth-orientated missions
NPCS Mr. Tinkles - Citizen/Mafia
Sex: Male Actual Age: 124
Apparent Age (human): Any age, but his preferred form is 54
Type of Monster: Nekomata Nationality: Japanese RP Group: Civilian – Operates the “Monster Mafia” in Chicago Role within group: Don
Appearance as monster: A Japanese Bobtail with a calico coat and heterochromatic eyes of blue and amber. Though his tail is only a nub, it is beginning to split in two. Appearance as human: Any appearance, but he likes to take the form of an older gentleman – around the age of 54. His hair is black with patches of gray right above the temples. He is tall and has some extra weight on his body. For clothing, he wears a well-tailored black suit with some sort of bold color underneath.
Battle abilities as monster: Mr. Tinkles can control corpses, cast ghost fires, cast illusions, shape shift, and influence a sleeper's dream. He also has the ability to learn human language and has mastered three of them so far. (These languages are English, Chinese, and Russian.) Battle inabilities as monster: He is a house cat and is only as physically strong as a normal house cat.
Battle abilities as human: The only ability he gains from being a human is the power of imposable thumbs. He also retains the ability to use illusions. Battle inabilities as human: He loses all of the benefits of being a cat, and a nekomata. He would revert back to a cat if in danger.
Quirks: He is a house cat and behaves like one, keeping a full bag of cat nip in his desk drawer and a dead mouse in the refrigerator. When he disguises himself as a human, he behaves how he believes he should and does a pretty good job at it considering how new to it he is. However, every once in a while he will let his voice reveal his cat nature. This includes gurgling his throat when he is happy, and making a harsh “ka” sound that mimics a hiss when he is not.
Personality: Mr. Tinkles is a serious cat, and a very effective businessman. Though he has an impressive collection of magical tricks up his sleeve, he prefers to conduct business the old fashioned way. The reason for this is because it is like a cat chasing a mouse - a favorite pass time of his when he was a kitten. If he used magic it would be like giving the cat a hand grenade. He has a weakness for little old ladies in need of help.
History: For most of his life Mr. Tinkles was an alley cat. He observed a lot during this time, and spent much of his day outside a lawyer's office. (Not only was the dumpster meals better, the lawyer was good at conducting business and therefore fun to watch.) One day he was picked up off the streets by a little old lady who mistook him as house cat material.
At first he resented this and tried his hardest to get back outside. Over time she revealed her story to him in little bits and pieces. He learned her children abandoned her – leaving her to take care of herself. Feeling for this woman, Mr. Tinkles became the best pet an owner could hope for – going as far as merowing when it was time for her to take her pills.
When the little old lady died, Mr. Tinkles found himself back on the street. Two years passed, and he was old enough to become a bakeneko. Once these supernatural abilities developed, his first plan of action was to hunt down the lady's children and make them regret forgetting her. Over the course of eight years he managed to find all three of them. He tortured them with nightmares of their mother, haunted them with illusions of her ghost, and on one occasion raised a corpse from the nearby cemetery to pound on the door and scratch at the windows. The children went insane – two committing suicide and one becoming a permanent resident in a mental institution.
Satisfied with his work, he returned to his home city of Chicago and began the first official Monster Mafia. Over the years his powers have grown, causing him to grow into a nekomata.
Kyoko Suzuki - Youkai Organization
Sex: Female Actual Age: 26 Apparent Age (human): 26
Type of Monster: Baku Nationality: Japanese RP Group: Youkai Organization Role within group: Psychiatrist
Appearance as monster: She has a tapir's head and a lion's body. Brown fur covers her entire body, with pink stripes on her back and front legs. Appearance as human: Kyoko keeps her hair a little past shoulder length, but always ties it back with a ribbon. Her terrible eye sight from her monster form carries over to her human form to a degree, so she wears thick square frame glasses. Over all she looks like a stern librarian – the one who takes down her ribbon, removes her glasses, and is instantly a babe.
Battle abilities as monster: Due to her physical form she has improved sense of smell and hearing, and claws. She eats dreams and bad spirits that cause nightmares, and can eat all of a person's dreams so he or she will be unable sleep. Even if she does not eat up a dream, she can still watch it without interfering. Battle inabilities as monster: Her physical form is limited by terrible eye sight and weak physical attack.
Battle abilities as human: Out of fear for her own safety, Kyoko learned the proper way to use guns. Though she has bad eye sight, she has refined her skill enough to the point where if she aims the gun, the bullet will hit somewhere around her intended target. Battle inabilities as human: Her ability to defend herself relies on her ability to shoot a gun at the enemy. Without a gun she is defenseless.
Quirks: The information Kyoko gathers from eating other people's dreams stays with her. Because she knows more about a person than she should, she is a very quiet person to avoid slipping up and revealing something she shouldn't.
Personality: Kyoko is a reserved person. Inside a session she is more talkative, but still limits herself. She is very knowledgeable when it comes to a person's psyche and is very successful at her job as a psychiatrist -even without her ability as a baku. However, the ability to collect hidden information does prove useful in cases where the patient is in dire need of help, but refuses to share the information. During this time she will bend her morals in order to help them. Overall she is a highly intelligent and reasonable person and is useful for random tidbits of information. She is also respectful of others and admires those who excel in skills she lacks, such as physical strength and agility.
History: Kyoko was born to human parents. Though they were shocked, they took her birth as a blessing and kept her a secret. The family was not well off, but seeing her potential to help humanity in more ways than just chasing away nightmare they struggled to put her through medical school.
After graduating from school she went straight into private practice. The Youkai Organization hires her for their employee psyche evaluations. Though she is not on staff, she is still well respected as a doctor by their medical team. Outside of her psychiatry work, every once in a while she is asked to search people's dreams for information. She has only accepted this once, in the situation where several hundred lives were in danger of a rebel terrorist attack.
Bidaria -Youkai Organization
Sex: Female Actual Age: 87 Apparent Age (human): 22
Type of Monster: Apsara Nationality: Indian Group: Youkai Organization Role within group: Leader of the Youkai Organization Section in India
Appearance as monster: Like human form, but her features become much more prominent and her beauty is borderline distracting. Wherever she steps in this form it leaves a water print. Appearance as human: Appears as a tall, young Indian woman with long, dark blue hair that flows freely like the wind.
Battle abilities as monster: The ability to fly and manipulate water. She also has some a supernatural control over fate and can cause others to experience unusual luckiness, or unluckiness. She is a contortionist and extremely quick. Can transform into water. Battle inabilities as monster: She isn't strong physically and so must rely on speed and trickery in battle.
Battle abilities as human: She moves quickly and can be unnaturally flexible. Battle inabilities as human: Lacks physical strength.
Quirks: Bidaria spends what humans might call an absurd amount of time in water. She loves to swim in rivers, lakes, ocean, and takes baths fairly often - at least a few times a day.
Personality: Bidaria is carefree for the most part. She loves to dance, play music, seduce humans, and exhibits hedonism. She doesn't like physical conflicts and instead prefers to use her persuasion and wits to achieve her goals. She's quite whimsical and might bounce around and not keep her attention on something unless she truly cares to.
History: Born in India in the early 1900's, she joined the Organization at a young age. She's felt since a young age that humans are wonderful creatures and that monsters should coexist with them. Once she was old enough to actually go out on missions and work for the Organization, she did so. She knows that she is not much of a fighter, and so she prefers to stay behind the lines and wait until some sort of negotiations happen. It is then that she shines.
She's been on a lot of diplomatic missions, mainly to the humans but occasionally with Rebels as well. Because of her work to try and maintain peace, she was gradually promoted and now holds a respectable status within the Organization.
Sex: Female Actual Age: 16 Apparent Age (human): 16
Type of Monster: Chimera Nationality: Greek Group: Rebels Role within group: Militant Leader of Rebels in India
Appearance as monster: She has a goat's head, a dragon's head, and snake's head, with the body of a lion and a scorpion's tail. She's roughly 8 feet wide and 20 feet long. Her paws end in sharp talons. Appearance as human: A feisty teenage girl with wavy, bright red hair that barely touches her shoulders. She wears jeans and t-shirts, but they're usually ripped and torn up.
Battle abilities as monster: She has many strengths, the most prominent being that her dragon head can breath fire and bite. The goat head can be used to ram, and the snake's head can deliver a poisonous bite. It is also capable of wrapping around limbs should a person get close enough to snare. The scorpion tail is not poisonous, but it pricks and stabs. Battle inabilities as monster: She has no defense against long-range attacks, and can't turn around easily.
Battle abilities as human: Despite her young appearance, she has strength that surpasses that of the huskiest body-builder. Battle inabilities as human: She easily gets hot-headed and may have trouble focusing.
Quirks: She loves to eat meat and eats like an animal: never using utensils or a napkin. In fact she pretty much has no manners whatsoever.
Personality: Lavaelas is temperamental, and can go from being content and quiet to suddenly enraged at the smallest thing. She hates the Organization with a passion and would have them all on her dinner plate if she could. She loves to listen to music and its one of the few things that calm her down.
History: Her parents have been rebels for as long as she was aware, so it was no surprise that she was raised the same. She grew up in Greece until she was 14 and then she moved to the USA. She's had a hard time adjusting, especially since she often got made fun of for her accent. She's gotten into many fights with people and always ends up on top. On a number of occasions her opponent did not make it out alive, causing her to have a criminal record in America. For this reason the Rebels paid the expense to sneak her out of the country.
Because of her skill in battle, she was given charge of watching over a Rebel base in India, and she's been there for the past two years. She acts as a military dictator, and is never alone when it comes to speaking with the locals. Partly because she does not know how to speak their language, but mostly because she will create a scene if left alone with humans.
Sex: Male Actual Age: He died at age 17, but has been on Earth since the fall of Rome Apparent Age (human): 17
Type of Monster: Peryton Nationality: Roman RP Group: Rebels Role within group: Grunt
Appearance as monster: A peryton is a ghost stag with wings. Aetius has a green pelt with eagle wings that begin with a green plumage and meld into blue. His tail is also made up of the green and blue feathers. He is ethereal and can be seen in various degrees of visibility. His shadow appears as it would for his last victim. Appearance as human: Aetius is a short and scrawny riff-raft. His hair is dark brown and collects in tight curls, and his skin a light caramel color. There are dark bags under his eyes and when he smiles people get uncomfortable. He wears a white wool tunic that is stained with dirt, sweat, and blood. A green sash is tied around his waist.
Battle abilities as monster: He is a ghost so he can become translucent or opaque, and is impervious to traditional weapons. He can also fly, kick, headbutt, and bite – traditional deer / eagle fighting techniques. Battle inabilities as monster: He is a ghost so call an exorcist, priest, or the Ghost Busters if you want to get rid of him. If one is not available then Aetius cannot cross over salt or running water, and will dissipate in sunlight.
Battle abilities as human: He is still be a ghost, so all ghost abilities still apply. The change is he is now a human and can do human things like speak human. (The universal consciousness theory applies, so he can speak any language he hears.) Battle inabilities as human: He cannot harm anyone in this form.
Quirks: Aetius' movements are graceful and follow a pause-move-pause pattern. This mimics a deer pausing when it sees a possible threat, then running a bit away before stopping again.
Personality: Aetius is an insane murder. The thought of smashing a person's face in excites him. Which ever form he is in does not change this fact, but should he reveal his human face it is a sign he is willing to talk – either to taunt his victim or because he sees a bigger reward in an negotiation. (Should there be a negotiation, however, he is probably planning on backstabbing the person after they do whatever they agreed to do.)
History: During the fall of Rome Aetius was a street urchin. His mother died when he was seven and his father followed suit when he was eleven. The two were of the plebeian class and once they were gone he had very little to live off of before being left on the streets. He did not make a good thief and was caught several times.
One day he was loitering in the market part of the forum when he saw a man trying to sell the pendent his mother owned. The build up of losing his family and being left to starve on the streets caused Aetius to snap. That night he followed the vendor home and as he slept the boy slashed the throats of him and his family.
It did not take long for the guards to catch him as he was standing at the corner of the street, laughing to himself and cleaning the blood off of the pendant. Though a rare sentence in ancient Rome, Aetius was put to death. He returned to the mortal realm for no other reason than to murder. That night he killed the vendor and his family, Aetius discovered his purpose in life.
If one were to ask Aetius who he was before he was a peryton, he would inform you he does not remember anything before his rebirth. This is true.
Though it is unusual for mortals to hire ghosts, when the rebels discovered one of their bases in Italy was cleansed of its staff they were quick to gain favor with the peryton. In exchange for being an active participate in a war, Aetius agreed not to go after rebel members. This rule gets broken, of course, should anyone push into his psychopathic side.
Rakshael: if I know one thing about Ruki, it's that she'll prove you wrong just for the sake of saying she did it BA Characters
It was a clear night above Alipura Chhatarpur, a small village in India. There was a flicker in the sky before a defining boom as an object came hurtling towards the Earth. Despite it being a clear night, the locals pass it off as nothing but thunder.
The object comes crashes into the dry dirt, making a small hole in the ground. Inside is a small medium object which looks like a meteorite, that is until rock crumbles and a canine type monster crawls out of the hole. It looks like a meteorite or a comet itself. Small bits are missing from hits body. They are the bits which crumbled off when it crashed into the Earth. Looking around a bit, it wanders off into a random direction towards the village of Alipura Chhatarpur.
Not that far away, a small rebel base takes notice of the meteorite. Fearing an attack, they send some scouts to go check it out.
A bit further away, a small sub-sect of the Youkai Organization were tracking the meteorite's path in the sky. Realizing this was no simple meteorite, they send their own men to investigate.
Now the race begins.
Rakshael: if I know one thing about Ruki, it's that she'll prove you wrong just for the sake of saying she did it BA Characters
"Hey Nissie!" an indistinguishable voice called out. The office was filled with people running this way and that, and Nissie had a hard time picking out which paper pusher was calling her. Her choices were limited down when a hand reached above the cubical wall and shook a packet of papers like a torero shaking a cape for a bull. "Over here, Niss! Got a job for you."
Nissie walked over and grabbed the papers. She gave them the once over before deciding it would just be easier to have them explained to her. "What's this about?"
"Something about a meteor in India. It landed near a Rebel base and the expedition is requesting back up just in case." The hand disappeared out of sight. Nissie flipped through the papers, looking for more information. Paragraphs and charts, none of which helped her. How hard would it have been just to say we need you to be our body guard? Her reading was interrupted by a pair of eyes and a nose peeping over the wall. "Hey, do you think it's a UFO? Like, aliens are about to make first contact?"
Nissie smiled. "If that's the case then I'll be sure to bring you back a souvenir - perhaps a strange pod I find at the crash site?" She turned around and headed for the elevator doors. According to the packet there was little time before the plane left, and she still had to collect a group able and willing to leave.
"Yeah yeah. Just remember I'm going to be checking your fingerprints when you get back!" Ben raised the rest of his face above the wall to show off his brilliant smile. He rested his cheek in his palm and watched as Nissie disappeared behind the elevator doors.
An was guarding Youkai Organization's headquarters with Ji, her attention starting to wander every five minutes or so before her elder twin brother would snap at her to pay attention. She would frown and haunch over; if she was in her monster form her ears would be pressed against her head and she would look like the kicked puppy she was.
She was currently watching the people walk back and forth down the street for a bit before something else would catch her eye. There was a chipmunk across the street running around the trees which had been planted next to the sidewalk to make the city look "pretty."
Curiosity perked, she got on her haunches and began to creep down the steps, not paying any mind how odd it must look to everyone else that an 18 year old Chinese American female was sliding down the steps like she was some sort of animal. A cat to be specific.
Before she could do something stupid, like bolt across the busy traffic (which she had done before much to the horror of everybody in the building) Nissie, an elder member of the Youkai Organization burst out of the doors, surprising An.
Quickly standing back up, the chipmunk forgotten, she bounded over to Nessie with a wide smile on her face.
"Hey Nessie!" She chirped happily. "Where are you going?"
Rakshael: if I know one thing about Ruki, it's that she'll prove you wrong just for the sake of saying she did it BA Characters
Nissie was still flipping through the papers when she walked out the door. There was eight hours left before her plane was to take off and she needed to organize a group before then. The quickest place to find willing meat bags was at the closest gym. They give a phenomenal discount if you flash them a Youkai badge, and it just so happens a lot of employees take advantage of this.
"Hey Nessie! Where are you going?"
Nissie looked up just in time to see an over-eager girl running up to her. She held the papers at her side and clicked her tongue against her teeth. "It's Niss, not Ness. Nessie is the girl from Scotland who likes to play peek-a-boo with the locals when they come to visit her lake."
An looked confused by what she was referring to, which made Nissie chuckle. She raised the papers up so the two could see it was official business. "I was asked to play bodyguard for an expedition out in India. I'm on my way to look for anyone interested in tagging along."
An wasn't sure what India was, she had never lived anywhere outside of Chicago. But it sounded interesting. Much more interesting then this place. And maybe more fun then those 'butterflies!'
"Take me with you!" An begged as Ji sighed.
"An, we have a duty to protect this place," he said with a groan. He took his job very seriously, and it bugged him to hell that his younger sister didn't. "And you would just go out and explore, and-"
An odd look crossed Ji's face. Maybe if Nissie took his sister with her, she could fulfill all her curiosity and always stop running off all the God damn time. It was a long shot, but if it worked, it would be worth it. He could look after the building for a few days alone without An. He just wouldn't let anyone in he didn't know!
"Actually, take her with you if you would. It would be good for her."
Rakshael: if I know one thing about Ruki, it's that she'll prove you wrong just for the sake of saying she did it BA Characters
Nissie turned around to look at Ji. She gave a wicked smile and shook her head. "I know what you're doing, but I'm not opposed to the idea. If you can get your superior to check off on An leaving her post then I will allow her to come along. Agreed?" She turned back to face An. With one firm nod she agreed with her decision to let the cub come along. After all, An had the attention span of a gold fish and was doing no good standing outside the door all day.
Air flowing through his feathers. The distant smells of exhaust and smog drifting from below him. As Jalen glided high over Illinois, he couldn't help but feel elated. He was supposed to be scouting the area for anything that could "benefit" his employers, and of course, he was doing that. He wasn't paying much attention to his task, but he was still doing it.
As he approached the sky over Chicago, he made sure to flap his large wings to gain more altitude. He wouldn't have normally done this, but he'd been ordered to do so by his superiors. Chicago was the location of a Youkai Organization base, and they didn't want him attracting unwanted attention.
Jalen snorted a little while he scanned the distant surface. Unwanted attention? It's like they WANT to stop me from having fun. he thought to himself. At his normal flying height people would just think he was a turkey vulture! A really large one, and not really the right colors, but people didn't usually care much about that. But no. He had to fly so high the smells of the collective humanity below all blended together...how was he supposed to do anything this high?
Wait. What was that? Jalen dipped as much as he could without breaking his orders, and tried to narrow down the odd smell. As he looked down the sidewalk below, he could see a young looking Chinese woman slinking down a set of stairs. As he focused on the scene below, he realized the odd smell was coming from the building she was standing in front of...more accurately, it was coming from her.
Jalen circled down to a building across the street and landed on the roof. He normally wouldn't be allowed to, but he had orders to investigate anything odd no matter the danger...on the condition he was "subtle.". If that meant he had to break his temporary orders to stay at a certain altitude, so be it.
Jalen changed his form to his human shape, feeling his wings shrink and condense into arms, and he could see the world glow more dim as his eyes turned to pitiful human orbs. Brushing his black hair to the side, he sighed. It wasn't ideal, but it would be easier to investigate if he wasn't in his monsterous form.
As he walked through the door opening to the roof of the skyscraper he could see a baffled security guard looking at him. Grinning devilishly, he clicked the button for the elevator. Something was going down at the building across the street, and he wanted to find out what it was.
The dim torchlight outlined the figure of a man sitting in the dark. Nyarlathotep sat in the back of his shop, reading over his personal copy of The Necronomicon. No one had come into the store today, and it wasn't looking like anyone would be. The only sounds in the shop were of the crackling fire.
An gave an excited yip, almost dropping the sucker in her mouth. Almost. Giving the older woman a bear hug, she began to purr as she dug her head into the fabric of Nissie's clothing.
Ji had bolted inside as soon as Nissie had given permission to find the two's superior and get him to agree to it. It shouldn't be that hard. An was always wandering off, and at least this way they knew where she was and who she would be with. Nissie was a senior officer as well, so she could keep an eye on the curious young puppy with relative ease.
Rakshael: if I know one thing about Ruki, it's that she'll prove you wrong just for the sake of saying she did it BA Characters
Nissie twisted in An's grip. Though she didn't mind the hug, the hyperactive cub who just stuck her face against her chest was sucking on a sucker. This blouse was brand new, and the last thing she wanted was to see it ruined with a cherry hard candy. She patted An's head and pulled out of her grip.
"This is a learning experience and I hope you take it as such. If you can impress the superiors then you might be able to get off of guard duty and into the police force." Nissie reflected for a moment on how unusual it was for a Foo Dog to be unable to guard something.
Ji returned shortly with a stout, angry looking man stumbling behind him. He looked grizzled and tired - worn away by harsh experiences in the line of duty. Now he was just another paper pusher, but even so Nissie respected him a lot for his service.
The man gave a head bob in Nissie's direction. "You're the one trying to pick off my people?"
Nissie smiled. Straight to the point, she admired that. "Yes, but just this one. I thought you could spare her for a couple days."
The man did not blink an eye when he shouted, "Fine!"
"Thank you, I promise to bring her back in one piece." It was clear he wanted to get rid of her as well. Nissie smiled, and when she recognized the gleam of excitement in An's eye she grabbed Ji and threw him into his sister. She looked down at her wrist as if there might be a watch and shouted, "Oh look, I'm running out of time! I'll be back later to get you, pack enough for a couple days. Okay, bye!" She sprinted away from the building before An could pounce on her again.
The quiet of the shop was replaced with the din of a panicked man. "Nyarls!" He yelled.
Nyarlathotep looked up and, realizing who it was, put his book down in vexation. "Yes, Manfred?"
"Listen, you won't believe what just happened!"
"There are many things I would believe, Manfred, provided it sounds both within reason and is somehow backed up with proof."
The disguised ghost gasped, "a Taingou has been spotted in a village in India."
"A Taingou you say? Hmm..." Nyarlathotep was recalling just what one was. Usually they were small, dog-like creatures. It was nothing powerful nor did it possess any amazing strength... but it did signify war. Where a Taingou felt, conflict soon followed. "Tell me, Manfred, you are aware that I don't like being disturbed unless it's a pressing matter? This is irrelevant."
"Perhaps, but the Youkai Organization is no doubt going to investigate it, and there is a rebel base that is nearby as well. There may be battle taking place!"
Nyarlathotep sighed. "It has been awhile since I was the orchestrator behind the deaths of those imbeciles. And it has been awhile since I went abroad. I think I shall be making an appearance, Manfred."
"When shall you leave?" Manfred asked. Nyarlathotep said nothing and merely guided Manfred out of his shop. He locked it behind him and disappeared into an empty alley. In the twilight he transformed into one of his many forms, The Messenger. As a black, shapeless mass he ascended into the skies set course to India.
Nissie headed back to the Youkai building to pick up An. She had successful enlisted the help of a naga and two amphisbaenae, and with her and An that made a group of five. Not bad.
When she got to the building she saw An standing outside with a sports bag slung over her shoulder. She was smiling and bubbling with excitement. Behind her on the street was a black car with dark tinted windows. Nissie assumed this was their ride to the airport. She tapped on the passenger side. The window rolled down and revealed a young man sitting in the driver's seat.
"Where to, miss?" He said with an approving smile as he saw who he was driving.
Nissie let out a flirtatious giggle. "To the airport, but first we have to stop at the Titan Gymnasium. You know where that is, don't you?" The driver nodded enthusiastically. "Good."
Nissie stood up and opened the back door. "Okay An, ready to go?"
'Yeah!" An said with an excited yell running over to the older woman's side looking up at her with innocent glee. She quickly turned around to her brother who was leaning against the side of the building and gave a cheery wave which Ji returned half-heartily.
Rakshael: if I know one thing about Ruki, it's that she'll prove you wrong just for the sake of saying she did it BA Characters
Nissie and An slid in to the middle seats. Due to the massive size of the Naga he would fair better in the passenger seat, and the amphisbaenae were slender enough they could squish in the tiny back seats. After a couple minutes the van stopped in front of the Titan Gym where three men - one weight-lifting giant and two slender, but muscular boys - stood outside waiting. Nissie stepped out and directed them to their seats, and once that was done they were on their way to the airport.
"So what're we doing exactly?" One of the boys gripped Nissie's seat and leaned in.
Nissie coughed and looked at the driver in the rear view mirror. The Youkai Organization did not keep drivers on pay roll, but hired from local companies. It was a huge money saver option, but the risk of a lose tongue made Nissie weary of their choice.
The driver reached into his pocket and passed a badge back to her. "I'm a, uh, Trenti miss." He blushed and adjusted the rear view mirror. His eyes kept wondering from An's shirt, to Nissie's legs, back to the road.
Nissie pulled at her skirt as she accepted the card. It appeared to be from the Youkai Organization to verify he went through a background check, but Nissie did not know enough of other departments to know if they actually did this. She grunted in confirmation and handed back the badge.
"Well, a meteorite fell in India and they asked for some extra hands in uncovering it. They're still a new set up, so they are understaffed when it comes to expedition work. We were hired to be the cavalry." She leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes. After saying it out loud, the mission sounded boring. The amphisbaena sat back down.
The rest of the car ride was in silence. Nissie almost caused them to crash when she slapped the driver upside the head for adjusting the mirror one too many times, but other than that the ride was uneventful. They piled out of the van and headed into the airport. An was the only one who had a bag to check, but the others were used to these last minute jobs and were used to buying new things where ever they went.
Nyarlathotep - The Crawling Chaos - soared through the sky. The black mass was nearly indistinguishable from the night sky. He quickened his pace to an ungodly speed and managed to reach India in only four hours. He landed at the base, which was located near a mountain and away from any large human settlement. As he came closer he dropped down to ground level and transformed into his human form. Nyarlathotep walked forward to the base and saw two guards standing there.
"Who are you?" One of them asked.
"Nyarlathotep," he responded.
The two guards looked at each other and then burst out laughing. "Nyarlathotep?" One of them asked. The other continued to laugh. "He's all the way in America, and he hardly ever leaves! No, really, who are you."
With a frown on his face, Nyarlathotep approached the two men. They responded by turning into their true forms - a sprite and a gremlin. Nyarlathotep turned into his preferred form, and towered over them. Immediately the two creatures screamed and got out of his way. Nyarlathotep went back to his human form and walked past them, smirking.
Chicago is nice in some areas. In others, it can be quite disreputable. In yet others, it can be downright dangerous.
This was a downright dangerous area. And that suited Charlie Slend just fine. He was scarier than any mugger you could expect to find in a place like this. Packed more of a punch, too.
The ally was shady, and this suited Slend just fine, too. He disliked the sun- it had its place, certainly, it brought the children out for a start, but being out in it was… not enjoyable.
A man dressed in black, like Slend, positioned himself in front of the mouth of the alleyway. Slend didn’t have to look behind him to know that someone had done the same at the other end. The first man started walking up the alleyway, and Slend estimated that they would meet about one-third from the end.
They met. There was space to pass, easily, but the other man did not look like he was going to let Charlie pass. He tried it anyway. He didn’t let him pass.
Let’s see, black shell suit, badly fitted, likely deliberately to show off the man’s imposing physique, unlike Charlie's own jacket which was beautifully tailored. Black shades to conceal his face, a certain ‘piss off’ attitude… Mafia.
Charlie straightened his tie. “can I help you, sir?”
“Charlie Slend.” The thug grunted. “We’ve been looking for you.”
“I think you must be mistaken, sir.” Charlie grinned. His grin was not pleasant. “My name is…”
“You’re Charlie Slend, and the Don wants to speak with you.”
Charlie sighed, courteously. “Well, I am afraid that he shall have to be disappointed, as I do not wish to see him.”
“You’re coming with us.” The man drew a gun, a pistol, Charlie didn’t know the specifics, he wasn’t a guns sort of person. “Or you’re getting shot. Repeatedly. Through whatever heart a Slenderman has.”
Charlie frowned, and leaned in close to the man. “Are you sure you want to be pulling weapons on me? You’re what, a vampire? Less? I’ve torn vampires to shreds. To shreds.”
“Oh, we have a more powerful weapon than any gun, mister Slend.”
Charlie turned around. Behind him the other goon was stood holding a video camera, the lens pointed squarely at Charlie's passable face.
“This has a live feed to Mister Twinkles’ office, Mister Slend. Fight as a human, you die. Transform, we expose the Slenderman race to the world.”
Charlie’s breath caught in his throat. “You wouldn’t… the implications… the Youkai…”
“The Youkai are already pretty pissed off with the Slendermen, Charlie.” The guy with the camera smirked. “There’ve been so many ‘faked’ screenshots, so much ‘hoax’ footage that it’s getting hard to keep the populace disbelieving. Hell, lots of people lock their doors for the Slenderman. We release this footage, all the nerds on the internet get proved right, and you lot get hunted down, along with maybe Nessie and Bigfoot, and probably the Chupacabra. Stuff that nobody takes even vaguely seriously, like vamps and Kami and ♥♥♥♥ get left alive, and all the stuff the Youkai are having real problems with because people are halfway to believing already vanishes in the space of a few years. We get rid of our problem, you, and some secret thanks from the Yooks for doing what they never had the balls to do.”
The flight felt like an eternity with the hyperactive cub getting into every possible thing. The only break Nissie had was the one hour nap she took in between the forty-five minutes of staring at random people and the thirty minutes of clicking her tongue and pawing at the window when the plane passed a flock of geese. When the people were let out they did not walk, they ran.
The group stumbled their way through the airport, every once in a while having to go back and pull An away from something or someone. When they got outside a black van was waiting for them. Leaning against the car was a Middle Eastern looking man with a thick, proud beard. He held a sign with Nissie Bergstrom written across it.
"Same seating as last time." Nissie walked over to shake hands with the driver. He crossed his arms and shook his head. Apparently that was the wrong greeting to go for. "Oh, um, sorry. I assume you work for the Youkai Organization?"
He raised a brow and tapped his poster while saying something in a language Nissie did not know. She rubbed her eye brows and sighed - they really should have worked this one out better. "Okay, everyone in." She waved to the group.
Packing in was quick - everyone was too tired to fight. The ride over to their destination was quiet - everyone was too tired to talk. All in all the ride was uneventful because everyone was too tired, except for An. The new sights and sounds were mesmerizing and every once in a while she crawled over Nissie to look out her window.
"hey, what?" the little screen on the camera had blinked out. "how did he...?"
Charlie's torso and abdomen stretched unnaturally, followed by his legs and neck. His arms grew into long, tentacle-like extremities, impossibly long and sinuous. All facial features bar his mouth faded into seamless flesh, and bizarre sinewy tendrils sprouted from his back.
"ah, hell..." muttered the vampire as both thugs went for their guns. He wasn't fast enough, however, and a tentacle-arm coiled around his body, thorny barbs digging into his skin.
Charlie cracked his tentacle like a whip, and the man rose into the air before being slammed back down into the ground at an appreciable fraction of the speed of sound. He went to do it again, but the other thug shot at him, the slug hitting his shoulder square on.
Charlie took a step towards the darkest wall in the alley.
And then a step INTO the darkest wall in the alley.
"Oh no, oh no oh no oh no..." the man pointed his gun at the shadows, but they were all around him. His aim flitted from darkness to darkness. "Tinkles said, he expressly said not to let him get into a shadow, and what did I do? I let him..."
A spindly hand on the end of a scarily long tentacle-arm plucked his gun from his hand.
"thank you." Charlie shot him in the back. "I really appreciate your total lack of competency."
The vampire, winded and broken but not even close to dead, dive-tackled him, his unnatural strength pulling the larger monster to the ground. He held on tight, but Charlie just somehow, impossibly, squirmed free almost instantly, his body twisting and flowing like it was made of taffy.
The tentacle arms snaked down and wound around the vampire, hoisting him up as they coiled around and around, holding him fast. Charlie lifted him up into the air, and leaned in close like he had before.
This time, all pretense of the polite businessman was gone, and the only facial feature, a circular, needle-fanged mouth, stank of death and utmost horror.
"I've torn vampires to shreds."
The arms began to shift, working back and forth across the vampire. The barbs flayed his clothes away, then his skin, and finally his muscles, leaving only a bloody skeleton, still very much alive.
Charlie licked the blood from his arms, and transformed back.
"I do not exaggerate, my good man."
He stepped out of the alley.
The were the clacks of seventeen disengaging safeties, and he found himself staring down the same number of mafia gun barrels.
