The Pirate's Creed

Characters

Rowan | Ruki
Ash | Nyarlko
Lanaezara | Gamzee
Rak | The Black Knight
Maloe | gargoyle

A few hours had passed since the sun crept from beneath the horizon. It was not yet directly above The Bloodied Maiden, but it would get there soon enough.

The crew had recently ransacked various ports in the Zeadus Archipelago. Captain Korbin, content with the spoils, set the ship to sail east to Skullport. Wind was no issue as he long ago invested in magical sails, but today it was with them. In a few days the ship will have reached Skullport and the Captain had plans to go and sell various treasures.

Lanaezara looked down from the crow's nest. The Captain was in his quarters, likely studying a map or appraising something. The first mate, Riley, stood at the helm. Some were busy rigging the sails, while the few others were cleaning the deck. The rest were below, sleeping, eating, or lazing about.

He sighed and gazed absentmindedly out to the sea when he spotted something on the horizon, coming in their direction. He produced his telescope and pointed towards the object. After a few moments it appeared to be a ship.

Lanaezara shouted down, "ship on the horizon!" Riley shouted back up, asking if they showed any colors. A few moments passed and then he saw not one but two ships.

"Correction: two ships! They bear the flag of Zeadus. It looks to be a trade galleon."

Lanaezara put away the telescope and armed his bow. It wouldn't be long before they were in range and he could begin firing on the other ship. He always smiled at the fact that he always got the first kill in naval battles. But, it would have to wait until the Captain gave orders to attack.

And just then, Korbin burst through the door to his Captain's Quarters. "A trade galleon, you say?" he shouted up to the nest.

"Aye, sir!"

"Well lets get on with it. All hands on deck! Prepare to engage."

p.s. The Bloodied Maiden is kinda like:

Current things you should know:

Ship Doctor: Tragg.
Assistant Doctor: Rakerton - Dwarf, overly friendly, is not as knowledgeable as Tragg but knows a few healing spells.

The Raven"
Jezebel

Victoria is a rival Captain who has a grudge against The Bloodied Maiden's crew. Her ship is The Blue Typhoon.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

Glanunt eagerly grabbed his axe and, upon consideration, left behind the full plate armor in favor of carrying his shield on his back. He needed to be mobile to board another ship, and he didn't feel like trying to swim if the rope broke and he wound up floundering in the water with over 150 lbs of dead weight attached to his dumb ass body.

Finally, a trade galleon! This pirate ship is finally starting to pay off! Maybe I can grab some extra gold while nobody is looking...

Excited by the notion of making a little extra cash on the side, he hurriedly threw his axe through the hole in his belt and sprinted up to the deck. Time to knock some skulls in and get rich like a real dwarf; by swimming in piles of beautiful, wonderful gold.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

ooc: Aw yeah. Let's do this thing.

Bic: Rowan was half asleep below deck. She was doing her utmost to avoid doing any work, and she was succeeding. As long as nobody found her hiding spot, she would be golden.

She loved being a pirate. She did what she wanted, got what she wanted and all for a minimum amount of work. As long as she didn't cross any treacherous lines, she was pretty well off. Of course there is always the worry of dying in battle and other pirate worries, but Rowan could hold her own in hand to hand combat, so she wasn't worried.

Although, guns were stupid. What was even stupider was the amount of people using them. It made things slightly more complicated then Rowan would like. But she could handle it. There isn't anything she couldn't do.

"All hands on deck! Prepare to engage!" Rowan's ears perked up a bit and she opened her eyes, drowsiness suddenly gone. A fight. More possibility to amass more things. The more items she got, the more items she could sell off (although she would keep a few of the more interesting ones). The more items she could sell off, the more money she got. The more money she got, the more likely she could obtain something she wanted. It was all beneficial to her in the end.

Standing up, she hurried on to the deck and walked over to the side of the ship. The wind played with her short red hair, messing it up more then it already was. Raising her hand to the level of her brow, she peered at the oncoming ship. A trade galleon. Perfect.

Rowan crossed her arms, and simply waited until they got close enough to board.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

The commotion on deck told Fardis it was time to get into position. She grabbed her lute and headed in the opposite direction from the rest of the crew. It was a short distance from where she was sleeping to where the cargo was tied down, but due to the mad rush to get on deck it took her some time to reach the cargo. Once there, she sat down on one of the barrels and began strumming her lute, keeping it quiet with her other hand gripped over its neck.

Fardis was not a seasoned fighter and if she should try and board the enemy vessel she would just get in the way. She understood this, and sought to make herself useful by doing her job and keep an eye on the cargo.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

Rak Merchinson had been standing at the prow, the blustery wind blowing through his poncho and hair made him feel more alive than usual. He took off his left glove, gazing at the insignia burned into the back of his hand. It was a design he had never seen anything like, seeming to be both an emblem and a character from an ancient language. The insignia would not disappear until he fulfilled the promise he had made, almost two years ago. "Strange, that one little symbol should bring so much change to my life," he thought. His mind wandered to the present again, thinking of his current contract as bodyguard for Korbin. Korbin; odd name for a dwarf. I haven't met many of his kind, but he seems able enough. He hasn't put his crew in danger so far, and we've acquired a decent amount of spoils. Still, he's not one I'd want to rely on in combat. He put his glove back on, momentarily forgetting it was off. Strange designs and tattoos were often inviting trouble, something Rak wanted no part of. He began walking back to the cabin to check on Korbin. Rak deserved his reputation as a stellar bodyguard, and he wasn't about to let his guard down simply because they were at sea.

"All hands on deck! Prepare to engage!"

Rak snapped into a run, tossing his satchel onto his cot below deck, but not before grabbing and donning his gauntlets. These black gauntlets had served him since his gladiatorial days. Wearing them brought back a flood of memories, if only for a split second. He mentally shook these thoughts away, and ran back on deck to take his place next to Korbin. Well, here we go.

ooc: Rak intends to follow and protect Korbin, wherever he goes.

The captain's voice rang out clear aboard the ship: "All hands on deck! Prepare to engage."

Scott Roberts woke with a start from a rum-induced stasis. He had intended to sleep through the whole trip. What had the captain said? All fans in check? Our man's undead? A sailor ran by. Two. Five. The entire cabin'sclearing out! Why? Whatever, why not follow. Oh, I'm drunk. That's why. The man could barely stand, much less walk. Maybe I should stay asleep then.

"All hands on deck, now!"

Cap'n's shoutin' again. Wait. "DAMN IT ALL!" he shouted at the top of his lungs as he stumbled to a water basin. A dirty water basin. One dunk, two, ten dunks into the basin. Much better. Now let's stumble upstairs.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

Ash Hephaistos was bent over a table in the Maiden's magazine, where the powder and ammunition for the cannons were stored and which Ash had practically claimed as her own personal workshop for the purposes of her pyrotechnics. Some of the ship's crew were a bit uneasy about Ash, resident pyromaniac, being anywhere near the magazine but the Captain had insisted that if she were going to play with gunpowder at all that she do it nowhere else.

She was just finishing up a few of her signature bombs when she heard the call to arms. "All hands on deck! Prepare to engage." With a grin, Ash hid the newly crafted bombs in her clothes and reached for her tinderbox. A few firesteels were hanging from a chain around it and inside were various items used for starting fires, including char cloth and some long wooden sticks soaked in sulfur that would burn easily, readily, and slowly for easy fuse ignition.

Ash exited the magazine, knowing better than anybody how bad of an idea it would be to start sparks anywhere near all that powder, and took one of the firesteels off of the chain, wrapping the fingers of her left hand through it. She searched through one of her pockets to find a suitable piece of flint and then struck the sharp edge against the steel a few times, experimentally creating some bright sparks. She tested a few pieces of flint until she found one that struck the best sparks.

Then she took one of the lighting sticks from the tinderbox and held it between her teeth. It was unlit right now—she would light it with a spark from the flint and steel right before the attack and use it to light her bombs. Finally she made her way to the deck of the ship, where everyone else was preparing for the raid, getting their weapons ready and such.

Ash took a quick look around. Glanunt the dwarf was standing nearby, looking excited for the coming fight. He had his shield on his back but wasn't wearing his unwieldy plate armor. Perhaps he had figured out why pirates and mariners typically didn't wear heavy armor at sea. It really only got in the way. Rowan, the elf with the crazy red hair who was known to dabble in magic, had her arms crossed and wasn't looking quite as eager as the dwarf.

Lanaezara, the keen-eyed elf, was up in the crow's nest, which was his usual spot. The high position was the perfect vantage point for an archer of his caliber. Rak, the silent young man, was doing his job as personal bodyguard for the Captain. Fardis, the dwarven bard who had a history as a merchant, was standing back. She was known more for her appraisal skills than her fighting skills and thus was the ship's purser, responsible for the money.

Stumbling up onto the deck behind Ash was Roberts. Drunk, again. Ash sighed and then walked up beside the dwarf. "Morn', Glanunt!" She idly tossed a relatively large bomb, about the shape and size of a grapefruit, up into the air, over and over. This was one of her delightfully painful shrapnel bombs, filled with spare nails and other bits of metal. It would make quite the first impression (literally) on the poor merchants who were about to get sacked.

Glanunt chuckled.

"Aye. And a good morn' it is indeed. Care to help me plunder the ship, or do ye wish to stay here on the boat like a wee lass jus' weaned off of 'er mother's milk? Why don't ye grab a decent weapon and join the battle like the real pirates? Nobody got no gold sittin' on the deck throwin' ❤❤❤❤ all day!"

Ash frowned and put the bomb away. Then she swept out one of her pistols, pulled back the hammer, and pressed the barrel against the side of the dwarf's head.

"Wassat? For a second there, sounded like you was insultin' me, but I musta' heard that wrong." Then she grinned, the wooden stick poking out of her mouth like a toothpick, and put the pistol away. "Course I'll be plunderin' the ship, that's the life of a pirate ain't it?"

Re: The Pirate's Creed

While some prepared for the eventual boarding, a few were below deck manning the cannons. A few well aimed blasts would be devastating to the enemy ship, and done well it would not sink them.

Yet.

Korbin took control of the wheel, his trusty Axe on his back, while Riley and the other mates prepared the crew for battle. The distance between the ships grew shorter with every second, and soon the naval warfare would begin.

Lanaezara, as always, was the first to be within range to attack. With careful precision he pulled back his elven longbow and fired an arrow in the direction of the ship. He fired two more immediately afterwards. After roughly twenty seconds, the enemy ship turned at an odd angle of about 110, and shortly after realigned itself.

Their helmsman was either dead or extremely terrified.

Glanunt grinned roguishly back at the pyrotechnician.

"Now that's more like it, lassy! Got some fire in ye yet, eh? Let's see if you can rack up a decent 'mount o' the dearly departed. Think ye can handle five of them with that piss-poor excuse for a thunderstick ye got there? Or should I toss you over there meself to give ye a headstart? You'd be surprised how much fun that is, actually."

He chucked richly, reminiscing briefly before focusing once again on the unfortunate ship that was about to get stripped like a tavern girl during a raid.

Those poor sods don't seem to realize. The wolf always gets his prey...

Rowan, who had been listening to the conversation between Glanunt and Ash, laughed when Ash put her pistol against Glanunt's temple. Going outright and insulting the pyrotechnic was stupid in Rowan's eyes. It wouldn't get anywhere far in the long run; Rowan wasn't sure how many bombs the human woman kept hidden away in the folds of her clothes, but she didn't want to find out.

Hopping on the railing, she waited until the ship got close enough that she could jump to the other side.

"You won't be plunderin if ya don't stop yapping," she warned them, tensing her muscles. Just a few feet closer and she could safety make it.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

Rak silently watched as the Bloodied Maiden closed on her quarry, the only way he could watch. He watched the crew banter back and forth, some joking, a few of the normal crew looked even nervous. His eyes fixated on a young woman tossing what seemed to be a homemade bomb. I suppose she knows what she's doing if she is on this ship. She had better, or half the crew is gone. He followed Korbin to the helm, his eyes dancing between the lookout and the approaching ship. He had heard of this elven warrior from others on the ship, and his skill with a bow was the talk of the standard crew. The elf suddenly fired 3 shots from his bow, and Rak could tell they were aimed for the trade vessel's helmsman. Whether they hit or not, it was too far to say, but the ship turned deeply to one side before righting itself again. He half-hoped there was some sort of security force on the trader, so there would be some action. The previous few raids had been nothing more than taking treasure from pompous, frightened fools; these events were intermissioned by long, boring days sailing towards Skullport. Several of the mercenaries had begun to slack off and doze all day. Well, they'll be earning their keep shortly. He returned his gaze towards the trader, whose name could now be read: Lucky Day.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

"Ya think ya can toss me all the way o're there, shortstuff?" Ash crossed her arms and then rested them on Glanunt's head to emphasize her point. Then Rowan spoke up, causing Ash to notice how close they were to the first merchant ship. There were two and Ash wasn't sure how the Captain was planning on dealing with them both, but it was just about time to strike on this first one if they wanted the upper hand.

Ash saw a few arrows fly through the air overhead, over to the trade ship. Lanaezara always got the first kill. A moment later the ship banked sharply towards the pirate ship, momentarily out of control. The name of the ship came into view, Lucky Day, and soon it was close enough to be boarded. Of course, the mariners aboard the ship were already well aware what was happening, so no doubt they'd be prepared for a fight.

Flint struck steel and a spray of sparks lit the end of the stick held between Ash's teeth. "Hehehe!" she giggled, reaching her hands into her pockets and pulling out two handfuls of small bombs, fuses sticking out between all the fingers of her closed fists. She waited for most of the other pirates to board first and then followed closely behind them, lighting the bombs and tossing them into the fray while she crossed the distance between the two ships.

ooc: If it's close enough to be read, I'm going to go out and assume its close enough to jump. Sorry if I'm incorrect in assuming this. Just ignore the jump until its close.

bic: Rowan grinned as the ship came within her jumping distance. Jumping distance that is with magic.

A small blue aura surrounded Rowan so that it was a very dim glow, barely noticeable if it were daytime and during the night it would look like some sort of specter.

She jumped lightly off the rail back on the ship, and ran a few feet backwards. Turning around, she ran full force towards the edge of the ship and used the railing as a liftoff. Sailing across the blue waters, she found herself misjudging the distance when she started to fall short of the trader's side.

Quickly grabbing the railing, dangling from the side of the ship as she attempted to scamper on to the deck. Graceful.

All of a sudden there was a pressure on her left hand; one of the crew members of the trader was trying to stomp her hand to force her to let go. Gritting her teeth, she let go with the hand which wasn't being stomped on and reached for the knife tucked in her boot. Driving the metal object into the sole of the crew member's foot, she took the time to haul herself upwards and on to the deck as he stumbled back in pain. She unsheathed her sword and quickly stabbed him in the heart before he could get back up and attack her. Taking her knife from his foot, she turned to see more of the crew was approaching her. She smirked and pointed her sword at the crew members on deck.

"Come on," she taunted. "Let's dance."

Re: The Pirate's Creed

Glanunt leapt aboard, holding his axe above his head and yelling a mighty battle cry. He landed hard on the other deck, and sprinted towards a surprised-looking crewmember who was busy fighting Rowan off. His look of surprise was forever preserved as his head sailed over the deck and landed in the water below with a rather large ker-PLUNK.

Like a compass pointing North, his head immediately snapped towards the grate that led to the brig. The cargo hold should be nearby, and his axe was more than a match for any doors or bars that stood in his way. Cutting off another combatant's leg at the knee as he ran by, he took two mighty swings at the wooden grate, and jumped onto it with all his might. It creaked and cracked, but didn't break. Frustrated, he jumped three more times, each one higher than the last, until finally it snapped under him and he fell flat on his back in the ship's biggest cell. To his left, he could see a rather burly sonova❤❤❤❤❤ who had just woken up from a nap and didn't seem too happy about it.

Hoo boy. Wish Bahamut were on my side right about now...

Re: The Pirate's Creed

As the ship neared, Lanaezara put his bow back in its place and waited. Grappling hooks were sent onto the ship. A quick glance showed the second ship to be nothing more than a sloop, and Corbin had tactically put the galleon between the Bloodied Maiden and it.

As crew began to board, Lanaezara grabbed onto one of the many ropes in the rigging and swung over to the other ship. His momentum carried him and he swooped down from an angle, letting go and landing behind the wheel. He saw two of his arrows missed, but the third was embedded into the young man's skull. By the looks of it, it was not the captain of this ship.

He unsheathed his short swords and leaped into the fray below. He landed and sliced a guard's legs, following it up a backstroke that cleaved his head off.

He looked up and saw Glanunt disappear into the grate. "Crazy bastard..." he remarked, before parrying a warhammer that struck him from the left.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

Rowan smirked as she dodged another blow easily from a rapier. With a swing of her own sword, she cut the man's arm off at the elbow, the rapier falling to the deck with a solid clunk as the man's hand still held it firmly in its grasp. The man screamed in horror and grasped as his bleeding stub of an arm. Taking the opportunity, she stabbed the man in the heart with her sword. The man fell over, and Rowan put her foot on the man's chest as she unsheathed her sword from the corpse's ribcage.

She had barely a moment to breathe before she noticed a shadow behind her. Quickly moving out of the way, a Humboldt axe embedded itself in the wooden floorboards where Rowan had once stood. A burly woman was wielding it. The woman smirked as she tugged the axe from its confinement of the floorboard.

"Yer pretty cute," the woman said, her voice deep. "If yer weren't a pirate, you'd be my type."

Rowan could only shiver as she could feel the woman's eyes crawl all over her hungrily. Why did these things always happen to her?

Glanunt picked himself up off the deck of the brig and looked his opponent up and down. He was rather muscular for a human; those arms looked like they could lift Glanunt while he had his armor on and not break a sweat. Reminded him of that retarded lizard all those years ago. Best not to dwell on such things, though. Respect for the dead and all.

"Hey there little guy. I was having a nice dream, ya know? I was ❤❤❤❤in' this real purty girl's ass. So you know what? I think I'll ❤❤❤❤ yours instead, since you're in such a hurry."

Time to leave. Now. Very much now. He spun around and sprinted towards the door, where he began hacking at the bars with reckless abandon while Bubba over here started advancing towards him, the boards creaking as he walked. Come on, you bloody axe, CUT SOMETHING! A bright flash of blue from the edge of the axe, and the notched blade clove clean through the iron bars. Still, there was the issue of that giant that was about to make him his ❤❤❤❤❤, so Glanunt hurriedly rushed off through the newly-forged hole and ran as fast as he could towards the room he thought the cargo hold would be. If he could find just one decent doorway, he could fight this monster. Just one bloody doorway was all he asked for.

Re: The Pirate's Creed

A series of small explosions surprised the defending mariners and the chaos made it easier for the pirates to cut them down. Ash stood back while Rowan and Lanaezara put their swords to use. Glanunt had disappeared somewhere belowdecks by himself, which struck Ash as an impulsive and dangerous thing to do. It's not like the loot was going to go anywhere if they didn't get to it right away. The fool was probably planning on pocketing as much as he could before the rest of the crew got to it.

Ash lit one of the grapefruit-sized shrapnel bombs, tossing it over her shipmates. The explosion killed two men almost instantly and injured several more, one sailor getting a hot fragment of lead in one of his eyes and screaming as he dropped to the deck. Ash started laughing but stopped when she caught the eye of a large man with a heavy mace, who managed to break through the line and was charging towards her.

She lightly leapt backwards, dropping a few small bombs in front of her as she did. The explosions slowed the man down enough for her to pull a pistol out and shoot him in the face. "Gotcha!" she shouted.
