Ancient Egypt Help
So I was assigned to do a Power-Point in school today, and it is due a week from now. I'm working on this at home, so I don't have to work on it at school.
Strangely, the teacher didn't tell us about anything to put in the slideshow, they just said to make a Power-Point about Ancient Egypt. My question is: What should I put in this project? It will be about 15 slides long, just to let you know. Some things I thought about putting in it:
Is there anything else I should put in this? Thanks for everyone's help!

Re: Ancient Egypt Help
Religion probably wouldn't hurt, it had a rather large influence on Egyptian culture.
Indeed, you could probably get half-a-dozen slides about the religion with barely any research needed, so it should help out quite a bit.

Re: Ancient Egypt Help
You must put something in it about Rameses the Great and Tutankhamen. These two Pharaohs always go down a treat in any Egypt presentations. Something about the Sphinx would be a good topic as well.
Other than what has been said so far, you have a pretty good line-up of topics to cover for your presentation.

Thanks for everyone's help so far! I'm starting to get a good idea on what this will look like.

I'm putting a time-line in my presentation, so I guess I can add the end of Egypt in that, or just make another slide for it. Quote:
Keep the thoughts coming!

No worries mate.
See if you can throw a few Egyptian jokes in as well. Thats if you want to. Google can find a few for you, one i can think of from the top of my head is What is a Mummies' favorite type of music?............................................ .....Wrap. The Nile is an excellent topic as well. Did you know that it is 6695km long.

Re: Ancient Egypt Help
Umm, you MAY want to talk about agriculture?
I dunno, it's just a side thread from the Nile which can be lead into, about how the rise and fall of the Nile dictates the way farming was carried out. That's one possible topic, and religion plays a major part in that too, because I think Horus or Ra (can't remember who) was responsible for causing the rise and fall of the Nile to water the plants. As a result, without Ra's divine influence the crops would die. That kind've thing? I dunno, I hope it helps, it's a random sub-topic. Also, something about Upper and Lower Egypt might help - there was a split somewhere in Egypt's timeline and it's worthwhile mentioning or explaining what happened. It's a bit too late for me to think, otherwise I would add more topics. Maybe tomorrow, when I'm more fresh. ![]() ~read~ |

Re: Ancient Egypt Help
I don't know if it's too late or not, but I have some things that might interest you.
A lot of Egyptian artwork that you see is funerary artwork--they were made in preparation for their deaths. The type of material used on their sarcophagi depended on their social standing (i.e., if they were a commoner, it would be made out of wood, or if they were a bit higher, like a doctor, it would be made out of stone). Along with this, there are also Ka statues, which are made in the likeness of the dead person. They were created so the spirit of that person had a place to rest. Again, what material they were made out of depended on the person's standing in life. Hopefully this helps!

Re: Ancient Egypt Help
Hmm, two important things I can think of are:
The Cult of Aten - A time when Akhenaten, Tutankhamun's father, tried to replace the entire pantheon of Egyptian gods like Amun-Ra with a single god: Aten. He moved the capital to a new city now known as Amarna, and replaced all the old priests. All changes were reversed after his death, during the reign of Tutankhamun (who was originally named Tutankhaten until these reversals took place). Hatshepsut - A female pharaoh during the 18th dynasty. Her accomplishments were many, but after her death her late husband's son (from a concubine wife), Thutmose III, took the throne. Thutmose's son, Amenhotep II, appears to have attempted to change all historic records so as to take credit for her accomplishments, and her name was removed from most of the monuments built during her reign. Agriculture would also be an important aspect of life in Ancient Egypt. |

Re: Ancient Egypt Help
Your topics are all pretty broad and large so you might want to slim them down and focus on one topic like:
Evilsbane idea about Hatshepsut and maybe flesh it out and talk about other queens such as Nefertiti, or gasp the cliche Cleopatra who really wasnt the beauty everyone thinks she is (find a picture of one of her coins with her image on it). The cult of Amun and the Amarna Revolution is another good idea . It was basically a political move by Akenaten to take away the power of the priests and instil it in him alone and his one god. Another interesting thing about this revolution was it changed eqyptian art and the way the pharoah was portrayed. Check out any pictures of Akenaten and his family and compare them too previous statues and representations of the pharoah you should see a big difference. Lastly egyptian art is a good topic go Art!st4786. You can discuss the various art from the different time periods Old, Intermidiate, and New Kingdom: and talk about the evolution of the pyramids from simple mastabas, to the step pyramids (see Djosers) to the Great Pyramids of Giza (there are three Menkaure, Khafres, and Khufu and later funerary temples of Hatshepsut and Valley of the Kings. Continuing with art I cant believe no one has mentioned the Rosetta Stone!! Or hierogylphs. Anyway sorry for the long post I am a history major w a minor in art history and Ancient Egypt is one of my favorite time periods. Good luck . |

Re: Ancient Egypt Help
I don't know, obviously its in greek but you might find a translation, and i am so sorry i got the book number wrong its Book II - however to read it go on http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/...%3Asection%3D1
this is a translation - it talks about egypt in about 300bc, giving a brief history through the eyes of a Greek as well as an account of contemporary life - if you do a slide on it you should research Herodotus himself because he is amazingly interesting the stuff on egypt starts Chapter 2 i think about the pharoah Psammetichus

Re: Ancient Egypt Help
Going along with what John said, you could use the gods that the Egyptians had since they were a big part of their lives. The only ones I know off the top of my head are the sun god Ra, and Anubis hehe.
