Reading Help

For reading regular books of my own interest, I usually remember most of the storyline pretty well. However, I have a test coming up for reading block in school, and I need to remember almost every detail of a non-fiction book. The test isn't open book, so I will not be able to look in the book for information at all.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Reading Help

All I can say is study. Read it over and over again, especially the important parts. That's what I do.

Re: Reading Help

Read through it as many times as you can and if possible on a separate piece of paper take important notes or simply write down events you seem to be forgeting.

Believe me, it helps!

Re: Reading Help

if it's some sort of historical book or something, you can write a timeline while you read it. Do it something like this: every time something relevant happens in the book, write it down in some paper along with (if possible) the date and time it supposedly happened and the page(s) in which you read it.

It helps you remember what happens in the book, you get to see the logical order of the book (making it easier to see cause/effect type of things), and it's easier to study afterwards (since you don't have to re-read the whole book). If you record the pages, it's easier to go back and re-read that short section if you forgot any details about it. Go through the list often, so that you won't forget the sequence of events, and close to test day rewrite the list again and if needed, go through the book for whatever parts you've forgotten.

that's my usual strategy for taking these type of tests.

Thanks for all of the tips everyone . I tried them all out, and I now feel really confident about the test coming up.
