Re: Riddles

Sweet! I love riddles

Here is one from a good book, "The Hobbit"
This is just roughly what it is, I forget the whole thing but here you go:

It does not have hinges or a keyhole, or a handle or a door but inside there is golden treasure.

Anorher fairly simple one:
A scientist studying in Antarctica comes upon a body frozen in the ice. He runs back to camp and tells everybody else that he has found Adam, (as in the Adam) but he did not do anything to the ice or body. How does the scientist know that this is Adam?
The body's missing a rib, maybe?

There's no naval, and thus no umbilical cord, meaning he was not born. No rib could work, but then again, they could have just been born without a rib.

Of course, the "no naval" argument doesn't actually work, since theologians don't agree if Adam had a naval or not.

Heck, for a century or two it was one of the big theological questions.

That's true, but it's still the answer to the riddle

Out of all the weird logic in this thread you pick apart this one? Sure I'm just jesting with you, but it is pretty funny considering the other riddles we've had.

Eh, if it's blatantly silly, that's fine, it's obviously not supposed to be taken seriously.

But if it's borderline silly, or seems reasonable, that's when you have to pay attention.

Re: Riddles

Riddle:

A criminal has been sentenced to death. Instead of usual electric chair, the criminal has 3 rooms to choose from, and is told what lies within them.

Room 1: Raging fires.
Room 2: Deadly Assassins
Room 3: Lions whom haven't eaten in 3 years.

Which room should he pick? (Kinda easy?)

1) if the lions hadn't eaten in 3 years, they'd be dead.
3)a donut?

Re: Riddles

The lions, they'd be dead.

9 Golf balls:

Put three on each scale.

If they're equal you know that one of the remaining three is the heavier one. So you put two of the remaining ones on the scale (one on each tray) if they weigh the same then the one you didn't weigh is the heavy one, if they don't balance then the heavier one is the one you want.

Now, if, during the first weighing one of the two groups weighs more then you clear the scales, put one of the three on one tray, another of the three on the other, and then it's just like the last step of the first part.

Not sure about the last one yet, though.

Re: Riddles

^ Notice how whole is spelled, no.

1 is right. Easy, I tell you!

Number two is harder than the others.

EDIT That was to Shiek attack.

GDWarf, I think that's right.

Re: Riddles

Well, just to see if my solution really works, let's try experimenting with it (sorta).

You've got 9 balls.

If you put three on the left, and three on the right and they don't balance, then you know which group has the heavy ball.

You then split that group and weigh two members of it then you know which of the three is the heaviest.

If the two groups do weigh the same then you just split the third group and do the same thing.

So, yeah, seems to hold up to examination.
