Re: Utopia

Yes but we can suggest could starting points. I would urge you to think about the system of government, how much power does an ordinary citizen have? Secondly I would suggest welfare and health systems. What systems would best gaurd against some kind of catastrophic failure? After doing some research on how current nations try to do this (start with Australia it holds certain similarties to the orginal fictional utopia and I'm not just saying that because I live here) I would suggest just sitting down and thinking, trying to imagine what you perfect world at least looks like physically. Read and watching science fiction would also help. Star Trek's future earth is a good a place as any to start.

Re: Utopia

Look at the systems today. Pinpoint their flaws, then you'll have your utopia by doing things the other way. However, don't forget to consider the balance of all things.

Holy Heck. I have to do this same thing...exept it's for Litarature class. We are reading a book called "The Giver"

It's a little retarded if you ask me.

Well...I was just saying that I had to an assignment like that too...

Eheh. I didn't do mine. Good luck.

That book is great. Its like "Brave New World" without the sexual overtones...

Anywho, a good idea to study for a paper like this is to read about actual Utopias. Saint Thomas More's "Utopia" is an obvious start. Then there's ""The Giver"...and...uh... "Brave New World" and "1984" are also good, but not for the kiddies. You might also try "Communist Manifesto," but I'm not liable for anything if the CIA shows up at your door...

The weird things about a lot of Utopia novels is that they point out a certain irony in that its not really a Utopia at all, since people are forced to do things against thier will a lot. Perhaps you could write a paper saying how Utopia cannot exist, and even if it did, it would be far from happy...

Just do what you should do with any good paper. Research, then put some thought into it!

Re: Utopia

Yeah, The Giver is OKAY.

This is the second time I have read it. So...my teacher has to threaten me so I won't give the book away, like what "releasing" is and all that stuff.

But, The Giver, thats a REAL Utopia. I mean, they don't even see COLOR. They are all the same, they take horomone pills so they don't get "urges" and they are assigned spouses. They don't even know what sex is! How CRAZY is that?

Well. I recomend that you read a little bit about The Giver.

I heard there is a movie on it too.
