[Mental Maths] Long Division

Now, next week I have all of my SATs coming up, so I need to get cracking on the things I've not understood in Year 5.
OK, I've heard of Short Division, but Long Division too. In Long Division, all I know of setting out is this: (Yes, the system messes it up >.>)

Tables: 8 - 16 - 32 - 40 - 48 - 56 - 64 - 70 - 78 - 86 - 94 - 102

652
________
8/0²

So, first I see how many 8's go into 6, but since there's none, you need to put 0 inside, and a ². After this, it get's really omplicated. Can anyone guide me through Long Division?

Re: [Maths] Long Division

i attached a pic to help

652/8

8 won't go into 6. so what you do is look to the next digit too. 8 will go into 65 eight times. you multiply 8 x 8 which equals 64. you subtract 64 from 65 leaving 1. you bring down the two (illustrated by the arrow). so now you have twelve. 8 will go into 12 one time. you multiply 8 x 1 which equals 8. subtract 8 from 12 and you get 4. what you do is add a decimal place at the end of 652. so know you have 652.0. raise the decimal to your answer and bring the 0 down to the 4(as illustrated by the arrows). so know you have 40. 8 will go into 40 five times. multiply 8 x 5 which equals 40. subtract 40 from 40 and you get 0. your problem is now finished. Your answer turns out to be 81.5
