Transitive and Intransitive Verbs

Does ANYONE kno how to tell the difference? My EVIL! english teacher made us correct our home work all of today and it was a short day for end of semester

Transitive verb- A verb in a sentence that has a direct object(direct object recieves the action of the verb).

Example:He threw the ball.
"Threw" is the action. "Ball" is what was thrown, so that makes it the direct object. The sentence is transitive.

Intransitive- A verb in a sentence which has no direct object.

Example: She slept.
Now remember that direct objects answer the hidden questions of who or what. In this sentence, neither of these questions can be answered. Thus, "slept" can have no direct object. The sentence is intransitive.
