Requirements of Graduation

Do you have the most ridiculous requirements for receiving your diploma it makes your head spin?

My school, you need to do a senior research paper, which basically is the only thing you really need to do to graduate High School...one 10+ page paper with 12+ sources on one topic, with a 15 min oral presentation... it is RIDICULOUS the time I am going to spend on this project, and then explode...

Also, 75 hours of community service...if it weren't for my favorite organization, newspaper (Which I have gotten 555 hours from, hehehehe), I wouldn't have my requirement... but should that really be required?

Any other weird things?

Re: Requirements of Graduation

:::shrugs::: i have to do my senior thesis (10,000+ words/about 25-40 pages) with a defense of it in front of a committee of about 5 teachers, and 20 hours of community service before the end of my sophomore year in order to graduate...

could be worse... and besides, a thesis on whatever i want is going to kick butt...

Re: Requirements of Graduation

Heh. We just need 30 credits and 40 hours of community service here. Suddenly I feel quite lucky.

Re: Requirements of Graduation

you need community service to be able to graduate? i've never heard of that. To graduate i had to write a 15+ page paper on fuelcells for my chemistry/physics teacher and then i had to defend it oraly (+- 15 min), I also had to draw a schematic for the electrical installation in a house with either AUTOCAD or ROBODRAW and defend that oraly for about 10 minutes. And i needed 50% for every subject (I chose to do Industrial sciences and i had about 10 - 12 subjects), unofficially you're sort of allowed to fail one or two subjects cause otherwise not even half the people would be able to finish their senior year in one try. About 50% percent of kids here have had to redo at least one grade (ussually 9th or 11th) by the time they graduate.

The Third Way is a fairly nebulous concept, but it rests on the idea of combining economic efficiency - i.e. a market economy with some intervention - with social responsibility. The focus is emphatically on the community as a whole, and not necessarily equality per se. Adherents of the Third Way range from moderate to conservative in their social views, and have recently been willing to take a "tough" line on a range of social issues.
