Working/living abroad

Does anybody know if one can work and live abroad without having a citizenship in that country? Are you an illegal immigrant if you do that?

Si, you need to get a visa, you don't need a citizenship but you will only be aloud in that country for only awhile, and it depends on where you work when you leave!

Yeah I agree you need citizenship within the foreign country to work you will have to have citizenship like here you gain citizenship from working but if you don't get one you will have to leave your work and go back to your own country.

Well... I want to go to Ireland and work there. And for that I don't need a visa. I've checked. Has to do with Norway being part of the EEA.

But I'm not sure.

Re: Working/living abroad

SeDé, it may also depend on what you are doing. If you are flying solo and working in Ireland on your own then you may eventually be required to get citizenship, that is if you work and establish a residence. As for the visa, that is cool that you don't need one. If you are working for someone in Norway and they send you to work in Ireland(still working under the company in Norway) you may not need anything at all except for possibly a passport. Sounds wierd to me, but that is just a logical guess.

Oh and one more thing, you won't be considered an illegal immigrant, that's a whole different matter I would think. Seems what you plan on doing is pretty legal.

Re: Working/living abroad

Sounds logical, Brolik.

I'd like to set up my own business there so that's something to consider.

I read later yesterday that all EEA-nationals are free to work and live in Ireland, but there are some professions that are more available to international workers than others. That's scary.
