I need french help!
Is there anyone here who knows fairly fluent French? I need to translate some stuff, and if someone could help me I would really appriciate it. If know one knows French, then I will have to use an innaccurate online translator, so I hope someone here knows French. And I need help within today and tommorow! This is for my final project so I could really use the help.
EDIT: Shoot, I just realized this should be in the Language Arts sub-forum... Last edited by Rayzor; 06-16-2004 at 10:27 PM. |

Re: I need french help!
Okay thanks, I will just put the words, they are actually a few words, but here they are:
Words: -tin coffee can -dry corigated cardboard -small tuna can -large old candle -thick string -sharp scissors -hot barbeque (sp?) -full barbeque lighter -strong hammer -sharp punch Its okay if you cant get any because I also got someone to help me from another forums, but I would like to have two versions to compare them if its possible, so just try your best. |

Re: I need french help!
I can help.
1. pot à café d'étain 2. carton sec (I really don't see what you mean by corigated, so the translation isn't complete.) 3. petite boîte de thon 4. grosse vieille chandelle 5. corde épaisse 6. ciseaux coupant (or ciseaux aiguisés, choose your favorite one :p ) 7. barbecue très chaud (the très isn't necessary but in the context it's better) 8. briquet à barbecue rempli 9. marteau solide (word by word, it would be marteau dur, but marteau solide has more sense to me...) 10. 2 meanings possible here. You'll have to decide depending of the context. a) If you talk about a punch with your hand, it's : coup de poing rapide (or coup de poing vif. Choose your fav one again.) b) If you talk about the tool, it's poinçon pointu. I hope I helped. p.s. if you don't have a French keyboard, you may have problems with accents. If so, tell me and I'll rewrite them without accent.

Moved to Language Arts, because, frankly, it belongs there.

Re: I need french help!
Sorry for double posting, but I just thought I would write the sentences out so if someone happened to know a few or all of them they could help...
Take an old empty coffee can and punch holes in the round side, near the top and bottom. Take a piece of corigated cardboard, and cut 10 strips as wide as a tuna can. Roll them around a piece of string, until it is wide enough to fit into an empty tuna can. Put it inside the tuna can when it is wide enough. Break an old candle into chunks and take out the wick. Use a hammer to do this. Put it into a heatable container, and melt the wax in a barbeque. Pour melted wax into the tuna can with cardboard. Light the candle, and put the coffee can upside down over the lit candle. (The first part of this sentence I already know) (On utilise cette invention pour) to cook things on top of the coffee can. |

Re: I need french help!
Ok, I'm locking this for 2 reasons. The first is the double post, if you need to learn how to edit posts, please PM me. The second is that you are not learning French by having other people translate it for you. The only way you'll become fluent is by doing all of this manually, even if it requires you breaking out the French-English dictionary.
