Graduation!

Hello everyone, as your valevictorian(sp?), I've already proven I'm unsure about my ways of the english language. I was wondering from all of you ZU fans, who is going to be part of the class of 2004! Now, this doesn't mean only High Schoolers, this also includes ZU members that are graduating from College, 8th grade, and if you are smart enough to understand the words I'm creating, Kindergarden . I'd also like to know if you are going to continue on with your education after your graduate. If you are a Kindergardener, I hope so.

As for me, Im graduating from High School. Its been an interesting 4 years but I gues its time for me to go. I'm going to a fine College here in New Hampshire and hope to have the time of my life there.

Thank you and good luck
*throws cap up into the sky*

CONGRATULATIONS!

And if u were unsure on your english i let u this little treatise on this lovely language, is only for the brave.

It was passed on by a linguist, original author unknown.

Peruse at your leisure, English lovers.

Reasons why the English language is so hard to learn:

1) The bandage was wound around the wound.

2) The farm was used to produce produce.

3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4) We must polish the Polish furniture.

5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present

8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10) I did not object to the object.

11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13) They were too close to the door to close it.

14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

18) After a number of injections my jaw got number.

19) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.

20) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

21) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let's face it -- English is a crazy language.

There is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple.

English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France.

Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat.

We take English for granted.

But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work
slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham?

If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth?

One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices?

Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend.

You have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it.

If teachers taught, why didn't preacher praught?

If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane.

In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital?

Ship by truck and send cargo by ship?

Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wiseman and a wise guy are opposites?

You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which of course, is not a race at all.

That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

PS. - Why doesn't "Buick" rhyme with "quick"

Why do we say something is out of whack? What's a whack?

Re: Graduation!

A lot of those were funny SER lol. Did you make them up? (I checked your profile and know how old you are!) have you ever thought of continuing in a Graduate School? Just wondering and I was hoping to get back on subject (I can't believe I just said that, and I'm the one who usually gets off of the subject at hand).

Hah! That was an awesome call!

More on-topic that was an awesome little list of things there. It just proves my point that we should all speak Japanese instead as it is approx. 11198723461903million times better. You all know how Chinese is, right? Well its a 'Level 2 language' in terms of hardness to learn. English is level 4! Thats really, really, hard.

More on topic I'm graduating the 'Junior School' component of High School this year. It basically means that I finish my stint in compulsarary schooling. Only two more years to go and I'll be off to University or something of the like. I'm 15 and living in Queensland, Australia if you're wondering about the Education system.

*Scratches head* Yep, sumthin' like that. No, we should all learn Greek or Latin, the very roots of all the romantic languages. Easier to learn then any Asian language due to our being familar to many of it's components, well, for people who don't speak in Asian or African tongues anyway.

And about that approx...I'm not sure that's entirely accurate. I had a friend who learned it, and said it was very hard to learn. Me, I want to learn Old English. Boy, that was irrelevant.

As for me, well, I should be done with the 'Junior School' too (I'm guessing that's 9-10th), BUT, the new school I'm going to now wouldn't accept some of the courses I took last year ... Soooo, I have to take 10th again.*sigh* Life can be very sadistic sometimes...

Re: Graduation!

Umm Jalus, if you haven't noticed, the last time this thread was active was 06-21-2004 when skate_mate made the last post. Let me do the math for you, that was almost two months ago. Here at ZU, a thread is considered "dead" when nobody has replied in it for over a month, and you my friend, just unearthed something that should have been decomposing for awhile now. If you'd like to talk about education, I'd suggest you find or make a new thread of your own about this same topic (I should also mention that you should check around before making a new thread). If you do make a new thread talking about the same subject as this one, I really don't think it will last as long as this one did (almost 3 weeks).
