Re: 70s Rock History
To understand the history of English 70’s rock bands like Led Zeppelin, you have to go back to the 60’s. Back then, British teens were huge consumers of blues and R&B. They were crazy for African-American music. Since black artists never really toured overseas, England had to make it’s own bands to fill the demand. Imagine a generation of skinny, pasty-faced Brits learning to sing and play like Mississippi blues guys!
Anyway, the Beatles came along and the world got into British music. UK bar-bands suddenly became international hitmakers. Musicians like Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin’s guitarist) was a top studio man who liked blues and heavy rock beats.
Combine all that with lotsa sex and drugs (it was the 70’s) and you have it: Led Zeppelin.
BTW: In my opinion, these guys’ songs go on for wa-a-a-y too long...
