All in the Family
Just wondered in anybody has heard of this great show? If not then trust me it is comedy GOLD!
Anyway i'll provide a link to a segment from one of my favorite episodes soon. I'd just like to give you the back story on what's happening. Okay one day Archie Bunker(the white haired man that's prejudiced) is driving a cab and has a famous black entertainer known as Sammy Davis Junior in the back of his cab. Anyway Sammy left his briefcase in the back and Archie has him coming over to the house to pick it up. Now for those of you who want to know who the characters are before watching the video skip the link and read down below(Note: Archie can be slightly rascist at times but it's done in a comedic fashion and shouldn't really be offensive to anybody. If it is i apologize.)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_UBgkFHm8o Characters-Main: Archie Bunker: A conservative blue-collar worker, Archie is vehemently against hippies(the show takes place in the seventies) and can be slightly nasty at times but never outright hateful towards minorities(by this i mean he would never be the kind of guy to hang blacks or burn crosses). Edith Bunker: Archie's wife, she is rather...i don't know what the correct terminology is but she can embarass Archie by saying the wrong thing at times. Gloria Stivic: Archie's daughter and the blonde girl sitting on the couch during the video. She herself is a liberal and dislikes the way her father treats her husband. Michael Stivic: Gloria's Husband and a very big liberal. He and Archie are part of what makes the show so funny with their constant arguements about whether the Vietnam War is justified and things like that. He is sitting on the couch with Gloria during the video and is a friend of Lionel(the black man that enters about halfway through the video and sits with them). Characters-Guest: Lionel Peterson: A young black man that they have on the show ocassionally, he is a member of the only black family in the neighborhood and enjoys insulting Archie(in a comedic fashion) about his beliefs yet Archie never picks up on it and thinks Lionel is complementing or agreeing with him. Sammy Davis Junior: As i mentioned in the explanation of what happens in the clip Sammy comes to pick up his briefcase and during the course of the video is constanly harassed by Archie's neighbors because of his celebrity status. If you'll notice he eventually starts to act like Lionel and begins to make fun of Archie's beliefs with jokes(which Archie doesn't get). Other: Several other people show up to bother Sammy but none of them are particularly important so just sit back and watch the clip without worrying to much about who people are. |

Re: All in the Family
This show is an American classic. There's some great episodes that take a light-hearted and comedic look at the some pretty serious issues without becoming 'very special episodes.'
Archie is one of the greatest American Television characters of all time. |

His chair is in the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.

Re: All in the Family
Archie is definately one of the top five funniest TV characters IMO! I just wish there were more shows like this cause, trust me, there are a lot of things that they could do with a show like this based on the things that are going on in the world. Although the way Archie acts towards minorities would probably anger a great many people even if the show is a comedy and not meant to be offensive.

Re: All in the Family
Yeah, it is out there. =p I do give you that but it does make good points. Just in an offensive way. Anyways, I understand what you're saying. A family friendly show like All In The Family that also touches on the worldly topics. Sadly, I haven't seen any of those on T.V. =[
Excluding Nick At Night. =o I just thought of one actually. The Simpsons...... Sure, they're trying to act more like Family Guy and the jokes aren't as funny but they're still a great family friendly show that isn't scared to touch on the controversial matters of the world.......
