Skins
Anyone else like with this awesome show?
Don't know if you American viewers get it, but the English folks should be familiar with it. The main appeal of the show is it's completely real portrayal of teenage life -alcohol, drugs, sex, the lot. None of your Disney **** here, it's exactly what I see in my school. Even better than that, it's completely excellent. Very good writing and dialogue, great characters and amazing acting. It's done very well critically and won a lot of awards if you care about that. I've only seen the third series so far, but the first two look to be just as good. I watched the episode with Ardal O 'Hanlan as the teacher and realised I was in love with the show. <3 |

Re: Skins
I watched the entire run of the show (thus far) earlier this summer. It is quite good, though I think the first season (or series, if you are on the other side of the Atlantic, I guess) is probably going to be a benchmark that will never be reached or surpassed again. The second season is pretty far below that mark, and the third slightly above that.

Still, overall one of the better series I've seen that has dealt with the subject. |

Re: Skins
This show is pretty decent, has some nice characters and stories most of the time. When it's on here I usually break away from what I'm doing to watch it. I think the 3rd series is starting here in Australia soon, looks interesting definately something Im gonna watch, provided I can get enough time together for it.
It's the same writers as Shameless isnt it? Because I definately see it as a sister show to it. Saying that, I prefer Shameless over it. None the less, still a very good show. |

Re: Skins
So is this show just like, teenagers having sex? Because that's what I've heard and that's the impression I get. And it sounds terrible.

The sex and especially drug aspects are over-emphasized, I'd say, but not to an absurd amount if measured against my own experiences and that of people I know and have grown up with. |

So yeah, sounds like the sort of show I'd only bother with if I was very very bored.

Re: Skins
I wouldn't say it's a realistic show; it's more a pastiche, or a satire, on youth culture. That, or it's just taking things to the extreme for the sake of being controversial.
Though I think this show has inspired youth culture just as much as been inspired by it; a lot of people now think it's only the norm to go out of wild Nazi orgy raves three times a week. The other day I heard my sister on the phone saying they should have a party "like they do in Skins". In that sense, it actually becomes quite disturbing... Yeah. With the above in mind, it can be quite a good show at times; some of the characters are believable and enjoyable, and it can be well written and funny. General quality varies from episode to episode. |

Re: Skins
It's wierd...we started studying Skins in AS Media today...wieeeeeeerd...
Anyway, love the first series, second series was good and tied things up nicely, series three was so-so, only really hung on to see if one of them died or something (be a cool twist if Effy kicked it, is all...) I think the one scene that BLEW me away was the musical end of the first series, hot damn.

Re: Skins
I think the reason a lot of people see Skins as an exaggerated take on modern teenage life with lots of sex, alcohol and drugs is because there's usually a fair amount in each episode. But when you take into account that each series is spread out over an entire school (well, college) year, it's not actually very far off from what a lot of teenagers lives are actually like. As long as you bear that in mind when watching it, then the show becomes far less seemingly exaggerated and over-the-top.
Anyways, Skins is amazing.

Re: Skins
I stopped watching after the first season, because I only watched it for one character: Cassie.
For some reason, when a series comes up that changes its cast every other season or whatever I only ever stick with one cast.

Re: Skins
The cast switch is every two seasons, so Cassie is in the second one as well. Though they completely butcher her character in it. She was my favourite part of the first season, but I would just get pissed off every time she showed up on screen in the second. Chris was easily the best character in the second season.
