Gilmore Girls is so amazing!

I love Gilmore Girls because it's so intellectual. I don't understand nearly half of the references that they make, but it's fun to try and figure some of them out. The dialogue is also soooo fast. The actors apparently had special people hired just to help them talk faster. Gilmore Girls is always intelligent, funny and heartwarming. The mom and daughter relationship is I'm sure one that most teens wish they could have with their mothers. I'm so sad that it only lasted 7 seasons. I think it could have lasted longer. It's such a good show!!! I love it!

Re: Gilmore Girls is so amazing!

I agree with you completely! While many people think that Gilmore Girls is a show only for girls, I disagree. I'm a guy and find that show to be vastly entertaining. It's also commonly disregarded as a good show because it never made it beyond the WB/CW. However, it's on Time Magazine's list of 100 greatest shows, and I've never encountered another show with such charm. I only wish it could have lasted longer! ^_^

Alexis Bledel is alarmingly beautiful.

This is why I sometimes watch it.

Re: Gilmore Girls is so amazing!

This show is horrific. My critisism could be long, but I will keep it short as I would probably end up rambling and getting angry[

This does not make it intellectual. This makes it seem really staged and fake. People don't talk at that speed in real life, and to the opposite effect makes the people seem stupid. I HATE the dialogue being so fast, it's so irritating as it just gives you this feeling that it's so staged, which yes I know all shows are, but for example, the series Friends, the dialogue is realistic and helps you ignore the fact that the situations are made up.

Further backing up my point that it makes it feel staged.

First point also backed up.

The rapid dialogue is my main source of critisism, as it just makes it ridiculously hard to follow, unrealistic, unenjoyable and painful to watch. I feel for those actors, having to learn all those complicated references AND say them twice as fast as an auctioneer. It is basically set in the outer suburbs during an infinite summer. Being so unrealistic in terms of the speed of the dialogue and situation, it reflects badly on the plot and characters, which also seem unrealistic.

I'll ignore the rest of your post to avoid debate and discussing my personal opinion of the show, but I have to comment on this point.

Of everything I've seen in the show (which is more than you'd think due to my sister and mother), all of their references have been pop-related. Pop people, pop songs, celeb relationships, ect. Not too much intellectual content there.

You live in a weird slow-talking realm then. Everyone I know talks like this (or faster), which is the real appeal for me. Dialogue is generally where most shows fall down in, as it's hard to get it natural and lifelike.

Also, Friends is completely staged. Things like Chanler's sarcastic remarks are so fake, no one talks like that on the spur of the moment.
The character's in Gilmore have this amazing witty humour, which is exactly like that of some people I know.

Because pop culture is entirely devoid of merit? All people should discuss current and past philisophical debates and questions, current political events, opera, etc etc? That probably wouldn't attract many people, since the whole meaning of popular culture is the culture of the general people, and thats probably what the majority of the characters and the viewers are.

Alright, caveat, I'm not a GG fan. My sister and one of my friends are, but I've seen very little of it.

That said, I have to call foul on this one. Friends has realistic dialogue? Seriously? To me the characters in Friends (though, again, I've only seen smatterings of it.) talk in a way that no one ever does. Most of what they say is just catch-phrases getting repeated.

It doesn't help that their personalities seem really, really, really flat and fake. :/.

Of course, no one talks like they do in Gilmore Girls, but it's certainly much closer to how people I know talk.

Plus, people on TV talking like actual people do? Always looks very, very, very fake. We're used to actors getting all the words right, knowing what to say next, etc. In real life people pause, think, repeat themselves, stutter, say "er...", etc. That rarely happens on TV or in movies.

Which is probably why GG's dialogue seems fast. There are no pauses to think of what to say next. I don't see that as a bad thing, people talking "normally" on TV is really, really, really distracting and forced.

Not at all. Pop culture has plenty of merit. But there's a point where all they're doing is shoving it down your throat, and some references to some other subject would be a nice relief.
