Cancelled Shows
Ever got into a new show, and thought it was realy good, just to have it never see a second season? Happens to me all the time, especialy from a cetain music television network. Some of my favourite shows have only runs for a short time (usualy only one season) and I can't figure out why since they are quite popular.
Undergrads, Clone High, Downtown, Daria, Mission Hill, The Oblongs. All great shows, but had rather short runs. What other shows has this happened to?

Re: Cancelled Shows
Futurama, even though we have those films now.
And waaaaay (and I mean 2001-2002) back in middle school I was really into... get ready for it.... Hamtaro. I was downright furious when Cartoon Network took that off the air. I'm also pretty bummed about Pushing Daisies

Re: Cancelled Shows
Mission Hill had a roller coaster of a life span. It originally aired in 1999 on WB with only like three episode airing. In 2002, it was pick up by MTV and WB with the rest of the shows airing. THere were gonna be more shows but due to money issues, we never saw them.

Re: Cancelled Shows
I think this would probably be better suited to the television section.

Re: Cancelled Shows
I liked A Minute With Stan Hooper better, but it only lasted a few episodes as well.

Re: Cancelled Shows
I miss these shows.
But, I tell you the only show I wouldn't mind NOT having a 2nd season is "The not-so-secret life of the American dumbass" No offense to those who relate to that show. |

Re: Cancelled Shows
Because it didn't.
Basically, they stopped the series because there was too much story and not enough action for the big guys, so the director made a movie that featured tons of action before it's cancellation. I believe.

Re: Cancelled Shows
That would still mean it started as a series...

Re: Cancelled Shows
The cancellation of Firefly is truly one of the greatest injustices to be carried out in the history of television. Though it actually wasn't because viewership wasn't that great for it while it was airing. But the treatment of it by the network did not help things any. Still, the show manages to reach heights few shows even ever get to in the span of only fourteen episodes.
I am pretty bitter about the cancellation of Veronica Mars a couple years back. True, the third season wasn't as great as the first two, but it was still probably one of the most well-written and well-plotted shows being produced at the time. Arrested Development was great, but I just don't think it could have lasted no matter what. People weren't ready for that style of comedy at the time, and I don't think that it was until the DVDs all came out and people started to be able to rewatch episodes to really grasp their brilliance. For this show I'm happy for what it has produced. And I do need to mention Pushing Daisies as well. As far as I am concerned Bryan Fuller's talent and creativity is being wasted on a show like Heroes, and Daisies was a new pinnacle of said talent and creativity. One of the most unique, interesting, touching and engaging shows to come out in years. Quote:
The series was stopped because nobody was watching it and thus it was not profitable for the network. People were not watching it for a variety of reasons, the ones that could be attributed to the network being that they moved it around, didn't advertise it very well, took it on-and-off the air because of Baseball and other events, and aired the episodes out of order, making it hard to follow even for those who did like the show. The show was cancelled, but it wasn't booming DVD sales that got the movie greenlit, as is the common perception. Joss Whedon (creator) was shopping around for a movie studio to pick up a film adaptation pretty much since the day he got the news the show was getting canned. He met Mary Parent, one of the big people at Universal, and she watched the DVDs and greenlit the movie based off of that and Joss' pitch. |

Seeing how we're talking about television shows in general, I'd like to see Samurai Pizza Cats; oh, and wasn't there a real life action show for The Tick?

Sorry. The way you worried it made it look like you thought they had a movie and then a series. As in the movie started a series.
