Live From Anime Weekend Atlanta: Toonami 1997-2008 | gaijinside

Toonami is dead. RIP. | Protaku Anime and Manga Blog

The Toonami people have been shuffled off to different departments of CN, and Jetstream will air for the forseeable future, but the Toonami we know is gone as of tonight.

Naruto? S&P has 15 more episodes to go over, and there’s no word on another season. No word, also, where it will air after Toonami.

In other CN news, they’re working on a Ben 10 Alien Force live-action movie, could air Powerpuff Girls Z at some point

(Original text after the bump for posterity sake)

Cartoon Network is running late, but…

Powerpuff Girls Z may be coming late this year or early next.

Pretty big announcement about Toonami coming tonight. (One of the heads of AWA mentioned Toonami would air for the last time tonight, but wasn’t clear if he was joking) edit- someone asked, and he reiterated to watch Toonami tonight for an announcement.

Edit- Toonami, as we know it is gone. The team is going to other parts of CN, anime will be mostly handled by AS, and action on Friday nights. Toonami is gone for ratings. Jetstream will be active.

S&P looked at Elfin Lied.. too much.

“No comment” on Naruto Shippunden airing.

Old School AS Friday won’t last long.

Code Geass is not doing well at all. Watch Shin-Chan and reruns of FMA.

FusionFall in January, beta testing now.

Naruto- S&P has 15 more episodes, and “wait and see” on second series. No word on where it goes without Toonami.

CN is airing Gotham Knight and New Frontier, working on a Ben 10 Alien Force live action movie.
A part of my childhood and teen years has been slain. I may had never say Toonami in it's early years, but I was lucky enough to see it during 2002-2005. Toonami has provided many action cartoons and anime fans with such great memories and was bold enough to help bring good anime to the mainstream. Now, it's all gone!

Re: The Fall of Toonami

I started watching Toonami in 1998. It had quite a bit of terrible shows, but also, quite a few memorable shows:

Roulette
ThunderCats
Voltron
Beastwars
Dragon Ball Z
Powerpuff Girls
ReBoot
Batman
Gundam Wing
Tenchi Muyo
Dragon Ball
Batman Beyond
Zoids
Samurai Jack
.Hack//SIGN
Star Wars: Clone Wars
Jackie Chan Adventures
Gundam SEED
Teen Titans
Pokemon

As well as countless great movies and miniseries.

I was a bit disapointed by Tom's current look, though the Cowboy Bebop "bang" at the end made up for it.

Toonami died a long time ago, what you've seen for these last few years has been nothing but an animated corpse. Still, I always had the hope that someone would throw a few phoenix downs on it in the form of Full Metal Panic, Lucky Star and Haruhi - doesn't look like that'll happen....

Re: The Fall of Toonami

Ok. Just to say, it was a bad idea putting this somewhere where I could see it.

Here is a newsflash for Cartoon F****** Network. You have just lost 50% of your audience. (Note: You only had 50%.)

I had grown up with Toonami, and knowing that this has happened is bad. Not just regular bad, bat credit card.

Cartoon Network has just made the worst mistake of their careers. They have officially made the appocolypse. (sorry if that is spelled wrong) Yep, the earth is coming to an end. Buildings are collapsing, Satan is skating his way to work, and I think I just became a monkey's aunt. I would say more, but I need to go take my "Oh my god what happened" pill.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

Toonami went to **** ever since Naruto came on air (and not JUST because of Naruto, there was other shows that came soon after it and pretty much altered the overall quality of Toonami more than Naruto could), and slowly went downhill. The only great show left was FUNi's One Piece dub which was canceled for ****ing Blue Dragon, and ever since then it just continued to get worse and worse. Good riddance.

Yeah, you are right. I don't see what's so awesome about Naruto anyway. Wait, what was that last part *reads whole thing again* I need to go take another pill.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

I stopped watching Toonami a long time ago. I don't remember exactly when, only that the appeal of the shows started to drop. That's not to say that I stopped completely, though. It was great while it lasted.

I remember vague memories of that show. It freaked me out. Keep in mind, I was 4 at this point.

I'm pretty sure Naruto will still air along with other Toonami programs. But if not, Naruto will definitely stay on CN. It's way too popular to be cut off and would be a bad investment.

It was pretty good. I recommend watching it if you have the time with nothing much else to do.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

I used to catch Toonami every week, heck I even seen it when it first aired. Some villain from Space Ghost was hosting ,Moltar was it?

This block of shows shall always have a place in my heart, for it introduced me to anime.
One of the best anime it ever had was Outlaw Star.

Ever since it's last revamp witch they replaced the cool looking Tom with the dumb robot looking one. I felt it begain to fade and so I stoped watching it.

Prehaps CN will revive it one day in the future with a mix of old classic shows and new ones. (Maybe even with a badass redesign of Tom)

Nice to see you're still an idiot. Cartoon Network would not take off a block of programming which 50% of their viewers watched. That's just bad business.

They took off other awesome things, Mr. I think apples are grapes. If I made a list of all the cool things they took off, It would be so long, you would be able to see the end of it at the opening of your box. They wouldn't know a good business decision if it hit them in the face.

What about them promos huh? Toonami had some kickass promos in the past, like this one.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

Toonami's gone? Wow, that sucks. Whenever I got a chance to watch some Cartoon Network, I always enjoyed watching the anime Toonami had...

Well, back to the drawing board for CN I guess, they need something good now... And big. Really big.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

Yet another part of my childhood gets a javelin in the face.
I realize and admit (quiiite eagerly) that Toonami was not any good recently, but I mean... You can't just STOP it! You need better shows!

I remember back when it was on during weekdays, and I'd be able to watch good things (or things that seemed vaguely good after not having seen them in a while) like Rurouni Kenshin and Tenchi Muyo. Those were the days.

Goodbye, Toonami. Rest in peace with the rest of my childhood.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

This is like a stab in the gut for me.

I have been a longtime fan of Toonami. For me, its heyday was when it aired on the weekdays. The Clone Wars, Dragonball Z, Kenshin, Tenchi, all that good stuff. I loved catching Toonami right after school and just binging on cartoons. For me, it started going to the crapper when it was removed from weekdays. That was about the time when I no longer had television anyways (still don't). Toonami: The Rising Sun was also awesome.

I also loved back when Toonami covered video games. Super Mario Sunshine received a full 10/10, which made me very happy. ^_^

Farewell, Toonami. I knew thee well.

I think Toonami should have its own channel, like Boomerang. That would be awesome.
