I watched Toonami around 01-02. When DBZ was the main anime.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

Toonami was awesome back in the day- the newer schedule was stupid, anyway. Admittedly, DBZ, although awesome, was pretty stupid itself- but it was in a "so campy it's good" stupid. The newer shows were just, well, stupid.

Eh. I'm not really complaining that they're cutting out the block. I don't watch Cartoon Network (Or much TV at all) anymore- and at least the shows on Toonami will still be broadcast for any fans. Just without the block.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

Toonami was a large part of my youth. Every day, I waited eagerly for new episodes of whatever.

When it went to Saturday, I kinda stopped watching it, and getting my anime from the internet.

Still though, tis a sad day.

*sigh*
It's a good thing I don't live in America, but I feel sorry for such a great showtime being taken off. It reminds me of all the other programs that went off, and I can't help but cry over all we're losing. I recall all the good shows being on Toonami when in Europe. Dragonball Z, anything by Bruce Timm, Samurai Jack. I also remember being obsessed with Sailor Moon as a child.
Such a beautiful haven. I
RIP Tom. Staying forever gold.

Toonami... I remember the first airing. It was good when Tenchi Muyo/Tenchi in Tokyo was on. Outlaw Star was great on the midnight run, too. Uncut. I also remember the new He-Man series. It was good, too, but it went MIA. How sad. AS pretty much took over. It was only obvious to me Toonami would die for this reason. Also, Naruto is just horrible. It doesn't deserve anything for it lacks good plot.

But with all respect, farewell, Toonami.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

I remember watching most of the shows you guys talk about when I was younger but some of them freaked me out. I really liked Miyazaki's movies. Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Castle in the Sky were my favorites. By the way did anyone watch Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo?

I read the manga. Humorous randomness to the max.

I saw only one episode though. I heard it was cancelled for...too much VIOLENCE?! WTF?!

Re: The Fall of Toonami

Wow, this happened like a week ago, but i really feel liked my childhood is over. It's all over. See, I remember being like 7 years old, and watching the first episode of toonami ever. I remember watching everything on that block, and then talking about it the next day with my friends. I remember just being entertained, and they were some of the best damn shows that I have ever seen.

RIP Toonami. Damn, I feel so old right now.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

I haven't watched Toonami in six years. I honestly and wholeheartedly don't care. Toonami hasn't appealed to me since Dragonball Z ended in 2002-03ish. This news doesn't shock me, nor does it sadden me, but it does make me feel a little weird. My whole childhood, I grew up seeing Toonami every night from 5 to 8. (something like that.) I just feel strange because growing up, I couldn't imagine the channel without it, and now it's gone. Oh well. That's life.

Re: The Fall of Toonami

Wow, oh, wow. So I just learned about this. I can't say I'm too shocked about this. But, it feels like CN just stabbed me in the gut. I've been watching Toonami since it's inception back in 1997. Hell, I've been watching Cartoon Network since it came on air back in 1993.

I remember. everyday after school, coming home to watch Toonami. I loved it. I loved the shows, I loved the promos, I loved Tom. Everything about Toonami was great.

I don't know what happened. But it seemed that the guys over at CN wanted to experiment with the formula. Around 2004, Toonami no longer was aired on weekdays and became a Saturday block, to be replaced by Miguzi. And thus began the fall of Toonami. Moving it to Saturday, was it's killing blow. It survived as long as it could, but it was inevitable that Toonami would die. Moving the block to Saturday was the wrst move they could have made.

*sigh* I have many a good memory watching Toonami when I was younger. Toonami is what really got me into anime with DBZ.

Farewell Toonami, we will miss you.

Oh wow, I remember those. Oh how I miss them, they were great. I have never really every payed attention to commercials. But, when those Toonami promos came on back in the day, I would always watch them attentively. They were really well done. *sigh* How I miss the way things used to be.

Do you remember those stories they used to have with Tom? When I was little and they ran those stories where Tom and the ship were in danger, I would go to the CN website and play that flash game they had, in order to try and save Tom.

I am in great agreement with this. They should bring back the marketing and creative team who did the stuff from '99 to '04, those guys were geniuses.

The could turn it into CN's anime channel. I'd watch it. If they market it the way they did Boomerang, they could have a great hit on their hands.

Does anyone know what they are replacing Toonami with?

Toonami isn't truly dead. A piece of it still exists on the Internet where you can stream episodes.
