WTF: Disney

Warning: The following is a rant, which I would like your opinions, and whether you agree or not, following.

Disney...WTF? You've gone down the ****ter. No, in fact, you're past the ****ter, down the bowl, and past the S bend. What the hell happened to you? Back in the day, you were awesome. From Snow White to Toy Story 2, you were on top. But now...you've gone all wrong. Now, sure, your animated movies are still amazing (The Incredibles, and I'm sure, Wall-E). Hell, even the fiasco that was Chicken Little was still better than many movies. But, beyond that, you're going nowhere fast. Let's take Disney Channel for example. I can sum this up in ten words: Mediocre, low budget pretty boys and girls trying to act. And that's about it. Seriously, beyond the suprisingly innovative and clever Phineas and Ferb (Whaddya know, it's a cartoon) everything else is just well...dull and plain. Every single one of your shows are nothing but a cookie cutter series with a twist (Hannah Montana's being a famous singer, Cory In The House's living in the White House, and The Suite Life's living in a hotel) all dealing with the fantasies of kids. You appeal to nothing more than kids, which I guess I suppose is the job of a kid oriented company, but in the past the movies of Disney appealed on a kid's level and on an adult level, ensuring entertainment for both audiences. But now, it's nothing more than cookie cutter episodes with the same redundant jokes, used only as a gimmick to push sales of merchandise involving the show (I.E. Hannah Montana, or the Tenth Level of Hell, High School Musical) leaving the parents (and older siblings) forced to watch the channel with their kids bored and tired of the same "food in face" joke over and over. Which is why a show like Phineas and Ferb is such a welcome breath of fresh air to the stale cookie that is the Disney Channel. Cleverly written, it harkens back to the old days of greatness when a Disney cartoon appealed to more than just six year old kids. Kudos to those who work on Phineas and Ferb.

And your music is...barf wrapped in rotten flesh with a side of burnt hair. Again, Disney finds only the pretty boys and girls, ignoring any type of talent present whatsoever. Let me show you an audition of a boy hoping to get a record deal:

Boy: Hi, my name's *Common name here*
Disney: You're not ugly. Can you hit a note?
Boy: One.
Disney: Can you strum a guitar?
Boy: Barely
Disney: You're Hired! We'll use synthesizers to cover up the song.

Yes, nothing more than pretty faces. Take the Jonas Brothers for example. They take one song, change a few notes of it, and BAM! a new song. And for some enigmatic reason, the teenagers just eat it all up like it's chocolate cake. Maybe Disney's got some brainwashing effect in their music that I'm immune to. I don't know, but whatever the reason, the music sucks. Dinsey, focus more on talent, and less on how "hott" the person is. No matter how much you cover it up with techno **** and synthesizers, it will still suck.

And that's meh rant. Discuss if you like.

Totally agreed. But I'm surprised you didn't mention how ever commercial on Disney Channel is either about Disney, ro sponsored by Disney.

Re: WTF: Disney

Oohh ok. Your complaining about the TV shows. Yes I agree. Disney sucks now with that. I hate the new little pop star wannabe's they keep creating. Sure they all start out cute and innocent, but end up trashy, screw their life up and are a horrible role model for anyone. Lindsay Lohan was a prime example.

And who told these people they could sing?

Disney told these people they could sing.

And you're both right, two aspects I forgot. Aw well.

I totally agree that Disney has gone down hill recently. Actually, it has been more of an exponential decay since 2000 or so. I agree that it is all redundant jokes and same-old-same-old episode/show plots. It really is sickening to be honest, but hey, one less thing to watch on TV.

As long as Disney is making money off sappy Americans, then continue to create new junk for their "hypnotized" audience.

Re: WTF: Disney

I just remembered; I was in Target the other day with my dad, and they had a Hannah Montana music video showing, and he yelled "Gah! She sounds like a whiney teenager!". Just thought I'd share.

Re: WTF: Disney

They all sound whiney. I wish they'd make cartoons again, like the good ol' days; Duck Tales, Chip and Dale, even more Mickey Mouse stuff. Anything but these little Britney Spears clones.

Re: WTF: Disney

Gargoyles, Aladdin, Hercules, Recess, Pepper Ann, Timon & Pumbaa, Duck Tales, House of Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Darkwing Duck, and Tail Spin are some of the Disney shows I loved to watch.

But these days, I come across the Disney channel and see....Raven. Guck.

Yep, all those shows were classics. I'm so glad I recorded some when they were still on. Sometimes on Toon Disney you can find some. Darkwing Duck was my absolute FAVORITE!

Raven... bleh. I feel so bad for my kids. TV just won't be as amazing as it was when I was younger.

Re: WTF: Disney

Poor kids these days will never know what true TV is like. It's sad, really.

Steam Boat Willie, Aladdin, Lion King, classics like that, are what we all know Disney for. Why can't they go back to that? They're so bad these days, I haven't even stopped to check Disney Channel for like a year.
