My Scrubs disappointment

I...am...the...biggest...scrubs fan...ever. And I was so hyped for the finale that I prepared for it. And a thought came into my head earlier today, what if it doesn't end the right way? See, I'm one of the few fans of the show that watch it for the drama and see the comedy as a cherry on top. Unlike my friend who watches it for the comedy. He confronted me today and said "I was thinking, what if it isn't funny?" My thoughts were "Who....cares?" But I let him have his worry, he'll be pleased, cuz I definately am not. The finale was...so disappointing. Every episode of this season was building up, and the end was like the final battle of Fantastic 4...what kind of final fight was that, that anticlimactic battle made it the worst superhero movie I've ever seen. Back to the point, the episode had humor, but like no drama, it wasn't even a finale. It was like a normal episode. If the 8th season rumor is true (Which we all know it isn't) then I will be satisfied. But until It's clarified...I will forever be disappointed with that final episode. It made me sooo mad, I will spend my days watching every episode on every season except that one because it made me almost cry. It was so bad, don't get me wrong, the episode was good, the episode itself, but as a finale, it was absolutely TERRIBLE! I will need Dr. Cox to help me describe it. My god...I'm done, I can't continue without crying. I'll go play Do Re Mi Fntasy now...*Sobs*

There will be an 8th season on ABC that was not the series finale.

^ What he said. Since the show is produced by Disney in the first place, moving it to ABC wasn't exactly tough. The only reason it hasn't been officially announced is because they couldn't announce it until the contract with NBC expired, which it just did with the airing of this episode.

Really, it should have been obvious that wasn't the finale. For one, why was Kelso still Chief of Medicine, when he had quit two episodes before? Why did Keith magically reappear after being missing for so long? Clearly this was an episode aired out of order, likely because NBC wanted something special for the finale, and the whole story-based thing fits that.

The whole reason why the show is getting another season is because NBC refused to finance anymore episodes, and Bill Lawrence refused to alter an episode to serve as the series finale, wanting to give a proper send-off for the show. ABC offered to pick it up, and here we are. It'll also likely be starting in the fall, as far as I've heard, which hasn't been the norm for the past two or three seasons.

Anywho, it would have been a bad finale (what with the out-of-orderness), but as an episode I actually quite liked it. It had the humour of the old episodes, the over-the-topness of the new episodes, and even tossed a little drama in there at the end. Jan Stevens had a brilliant moment (I believe he's still the composer) at the end where Dr. Cox said the "Let's just say that's how I'm telling it..." line and he went to a minor note to denote just a hint of sadness. Solid composing.

Here's a nice 'Welcome to Season 8' video from the cast and crew.

"I've also been stalling to talk about some big Scrubs news, however I've just been informed that I'm not allowed to talk about anything related to Scrubs and it's current fate. What I can tell you is that we are currently shooting 18 episodes for the 8th season. I am not allowed to discuss where one might watch them. (More news to come.)"
-Zach Braff, May 2nd, 2008

Zach Braff is probably ready to put the show behind him, as are likely a lot of the cast and crew. They were indeed supposed to finish this year after season seven, but the lack of support from NBC to make the show finish the way it should means that everyone is willing to do a proper season with a proper series finale at the end. Zach Braff, from all reports, knows that Scrubs was his big break, and wants to give fans the finale that they deserve after sticking with the show through all the schedule changings and malarky that plagued the show for its first few seasons.

Barring any unnatural occurances again, Season Eight will be the last one, but it will happen.

I've got a lot of mixed feelings about this. I know that season 7 was suppose to be 18 episodes long, so assuming the 11 in season 7 were part of those then there are 7 more episodes originally meant to be in the final season. Which means 11 of the ones for season 8 will be completely new. I hope those 11 are good, and not just filler episodes so ABC would sign them for a full season. : /

I am excited though. I love Scrubs.

I don't know if they filmed the final eight episodes for the NBC contract. I think they may have filmed up to 13, meaning the last two will likely serve as episodes at the beginning of the new ABC contracted season, perhaps one even being the premier, since there was no real finale this season for them to tie up.

So if my research is right, that means 16 will be brand new episodes. Of course, its possible they scrapped those two episodes and all 18 will be brand new. In any case, the filming has already started, so they should be done with all of them by the middle of the summer.

Zach Braff doesn't, but he will because it's his break and he can't let down his fans. Now, 8th season means I'm happy but, end or no end, that was a terrible finale.
