Big Damn Hero
![]() |
Big fan of the show, have been since I got into it last year. I was sold on it when I saw the beginning of "The Injury," the delivery on the line "You burned your foot on a George Forman grill?" just killed me. I'm a huge fan of all the characters, major and minor, my personal favourite being Kevin, easily. I'm actually not a huge fan of Michael most of the time, because he's just stupid in a way that isn't believable...but even then I don't mind him too much.
I'd have to say that The Office is the most consistantly funny and strong half-hour comedy on right now. It doesn't work as well in the hour-long format that it had for the first four episodes, so I'm looking forwards to the switch back to half-hour this week. I'm also looking forwards to the second Joss Whedon directed episode, which I believe is this weeks as well (though I'm not 100% sure). |

You bring up a good point in Michael - I find that with him and Dwight, the writers are pushing the line on what is believable or not. But one thing I absolutely love is how they've turned Dwight from one of the comic parts of the show into such a fragile and emotional person (well, up until that last few minutes of 'Money' at least).

Dwight isn't stupid like Michael though, he's just really really quirky. Michael actually doesn't know or understand things that would prevent him from functioning as a normal human being. I mean, selling his condo on eBay? Sure, it's funny, but no way any adult is that stupid who is able to become a manager, let alone survive on their own.
Whoa, didn't know Karen would be back though. I was watching Freaks and Geeks today, and Rashida Jones was in it, playing a character named Karen. She wasn't a nice person, so I joked that it was the same character on both shows, cause I was never a big fan of Karen...though to be fair that's because I love Jim/Pam. |

You're ****ing me, right? Not, only is the UK version older, stars ricky gervais, (or at least it used to, I havn't seen the recent episodes), and it also manages to be at least rermotly funny, unlike the bollox that the american version sprays all over me, tries to call it commedy and causes be to vommit in rage so hard at my television screen so hard it goes down the pipe back in time and comes out the camera and it's the crappy actors in the face.

Awww my post was destroyed in the great backup of 87'
To say what I kinda said last time. I find the Office very repeative and boring. The jokes string out for like 5 minutes, like, they're not complex they just dilute the show with awkward pausing hoping it will work for them once. It's a pain to watch a lot of the times....guess thats why I dont watch it. |

I don't think the UK versions that bad. My sister bought the season 1 and 2 DVD's. They are somewhat good. I don't think they're hysterical like many say, but they are decently funny.

I like both flavors of the Office. They're basically the same thing; the only reason I can see for all the hate is cultural differences. Each one is specifically keyed toward its target audience, so yeah, of course you're going to think your own version is funnier.
That said, I've only seen a few episodes of the UK version here and there on BBC America so I can't say much more about it other than that I thought it was funny. And I liked the fact that the show was able to get away with using dirtier jokes than the US version. I've been watching the US version since the very beginning and it's probably the best show on TV right now, or at least one of them. The comedy comes from the character interaction and general awkwardness, which makes it feel a little more realistic than most scripted stuff out there. (Although the show's plotlines do seem to be getting less natural and more bizarre as it ages.) I'm usually a fan of the minor characters, and it's no exception here. My faves are Kevin, Creed, and Stanley, and Andy's working his way up the ladder too. I'm glad Stanley's leaving was a bluff; I really would have missed his mopey, apathetic attitude. |

There's word that there's going to be a spin-off developed based on the branch that was introduced in last week's episode. I don't know how I feel about that.
In more prevalent news, the writer's strike has shut down production of "The Office." While I would assume there are existing scripts to shoot on, the fact that the show-runner, as well as a couple of the actors are WGA members (some of whom write for the show itself) means that they've joined the strike and won't be working in any capacity. I'm not sure how many episodes they have in the can already, but looks like it'll probably one of the first shows to drop off the air once they run out of airable episodes. |

Unless they completely changed this new show's formula from the one they're using now, I don't see it being different enough to be worth it. Seems like a waste to me. Quote:

This thread name was so long I didn't even see "the office" in it, and I made another office thread. Oh well, I'm here.
![]() This thread is not popular, no wonder I was compelled to make one myself... ![]()

Also, I shortened the title.

I really dug last weeks episode as just a solid half-hour of TV, and not just a show with some funny jokes. While the Jim storyline was pretty weak, the Michael storyline was brilliant. Having him caught between Jan and Corporate, and having both sides pretty much rip him a new one, and then still coming out just happy that his boss thinks he's a nice guy...sure he's simple, but he's at least an optimist, and he's got a good outlook on life, even if it is a skewed one.
This episode really had me liking Michael, which isn't all that common. I hope everyone else enjoyed it too, because it's the last episode aired until after the writer's strike, which could be awhile. |

Hahaha wonderful. Well, I just finished watching Seasons 1 - 3 on DVD. I wish we could watch it on tv, but we have no cable and well, I guess with the strike, its temporarily gone.
I watch a few things on NBC. My husband and I got so into the love story with Jim and Pam. It was so awesome! I'm glad I heard that they at least get together finally!!!! ![]()

One thing that the writers pulled off nicely was the fact that its still interesting, even when they're together.

I love the Office. I don't like the UK version, though. I have seen an episode on BBC America, and it was boring, I thought it would never end. That was a nightmare.
My favorite character's are Micheal, Jim, Pam, and Dwight. What I don't get is why everyone hates Micheal. He's a great boss, because he actually is funny, instead of uptight. I am also glad that Jim and Pam are together. My sister and I have been waiting forever for that. |

Ricky Gervais owns you all. And he ****ing created the bloody "American Office". The whole comedy concept is his idea. And hes funnier. You just dont understand british comedy, so nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Moop. :XD oh and the UK one wasnt cancelled. Ricky gervais just stopped making it. It was popular (and HE is popular) enough to keep going.

Didn't the American version start out by copying the UK version, before going off on to it's own thing?
